Great for dinner, brunch and drinks. Awesome room with a Southern touch. With a constantly updated daily fresh sheet and a menu that varies frequently, you can always expect something different.

Could be 3.5 stars. Good burgers, decent fried chicken, cool spot. Would come here way more often if it wasn’t so busy/popular. Sitting way in the back by the exit isn’t so nice. Also kinda pricey all things considered.

I really enjoyed the food we were here for a birthday party so we tried quite a few of their offerings. We had the biscuits and cornbread(biscuits were light and fluffy), the brussel sprouts were so good I did not want to share them, shrimp and grits were great and nice texture on the grits, fried chicken was awesome and loved the steak with chimmichuri and the cauliflower cannelloni was delicious too. As for cocktails I loved the brown derby it was«so good». Great atmosphere great place I will be back.

Okay I know… I should have given it 4 stars because the service is quite slow but man did they make it up with the stellar food! We had: ham grenades, sweet & sour Brussel sprouts(fresh sheet), cannelloni, fried chicken, Apple dessert and the mud pie. Ham Grenades– small but hits on flavour with the salty ham croquette, aioli and fresh toppings. Brussel Sprouts– very tasty, cooked perfectly, kind of wish the peanuts were crushed(or halved) but a good dish Cannelloni– delicious! Not your regular cannelloni by far but completely unique and flavourful. Kale was plain but added a good fresh element to the dish. Fried Chicken– cooked perfectly, loved the waffle as it had a savoury element. Gravy was great and I loved the syrup. Mud Pie– not exactly what you will have in mind, was very rich for my taste but very yummy. Apple– THEBEST! Who puts a warm apple inside ice cream inside a crispy rice outside and isn’t deemed a genius?!? Love this dessert. Super inventive and I love the golden raisins. The staff were pleasant, the music was a really awesome throw back(and at a good level) and the cocktails are super strong. I will for sure be back!

The service is brutally slow here. I wouldn’t mind if the food was worth the wait but it absolutely was NOT. We came on Saturday for brunch and it wasn’t busy at all. Not a good sign and also no excuse for the non existent service. The Chicken and Waffles is not worth writing about. The waffles were burnt and the chicken was stale. I guess in this case the small portion was good because we did not want to finish it. The Pork Shoulder Chili arrived in a skillet but was cold! Why did we wait so long for stale and cold food? By the time we struggled to finish this mediocre meal, we waited another 10 minutes before we had to flag someone down to get our $ 35 bill(totally not worth it).

we came here before and after our less than ideal experience at emerald. we walk in with 5 ppl and they admit while they don’t have a table, we could use the back bar /room. the server showed up quickly and delivered our drinks(which were really darn good /strong) quickly. round 2(post emerald): they sat our table quickly(now 10 ppl) and let us know that it was busy at the bar, so drinks may take awhile. they didn’t really… great service, solid drinks, and what appeared to be a great food operation(will have to come back for food). we’ll be back Mamie.

I went to this place specifically for the chicken and waffles on a Sunday brunch — it was good! The décor is lovely, the staff is lovely, and we were very well treated — even with a toddler in tow. It’s priced fairly, and in the end I felt like my money was well spent on service and food that I could appreciate. …and I have yet to find chicken and waffles that are as good as these!

I really like the food and atmosphere. other things could be better. I had the scotch egg and the fresh sheet stuffed chicken wings. Both were really good. thbut the wings were crazy good. Stuffed with with blue cheese, some meat thing with some saucy stuff on the side and this other stuff. Seems like there is a lot of deep fried items on the menu. but I guess that should be expected given the southern U.S. theme. My friends all liked their food too. The limited local beers are a bit expensive The waiter we had was a dick.

Returned to Mamie Taylor’s to celebrate a friend’s birthday party and what a difference a year makes. Service was excellent, thorough, and attentive. We were a party of four and ordered several items off the menu to share. Each item impressed. The flavours, freshness and presentation were all en pointe. I hesitated returning and there were no regrets. I appreciated the welcoming feeling, the happy crowd and the entire experience. Gratitude…

Team Tastic came here for dinner($ 45/person) and I had the following: Welcome Cocktail(Bourbon Peach Smash) Devilled EggsFried Prawns and Succotash ’Hoppin John’ with Slow Cooked Pork Tenderloin Peach Cobbler The Bourbon Peach Smash was exactly as described. The bourbon had a bold taste to it which left an aftertaste on the peach juices. A few of these and I’d be too smashed to finish this dinner. The Devilled Eggs came with country ham and pickled okra. I’m not one who usually enjoys okra(too slimy), but having them pickled made them a little more bearable. It still had a slimy aftertaste but thankfully had the tender ham and egg to smother into. The Fried Prawns and Succotash was a mix of cranberry beans, bacon, corn, romanesco, tomato, zucchini, and old bay mayo. At first I thought the cubes were potato but it was actually diced zucchini. The sauce was a little on the heavy side but was easily partitioned from the rest with my fork. The prawns were juicy, kind of like a good ebi tempura, and the bacon was pretty tender. The ‘Hoppin John’ was my favourite dish of the night. This pork tenderloin came with black eyed peas, ham hock, long grain rice, marjoram, and crispy pig ears. The pork was pink yet supple; it may have been cooked sous vide. It was incredibly tender and there were no dry ends. The crispy pig ears were similar in taste to pork rinds and added a delicious crunch to everything. The rice too, was very tasty and helped to absorb some of the pork’s saltiness. And finally, dessert. This Peach Cobbler came with pecans and bourbon custard. The bourbon was no side-note in the custard. One swoop with my fork and I could instantly identify its presence. It mixed well with the cobbler which used a full section of the peach instead of arbitrary peach slices, and the ice cream on top was a great topper. All in all, this is a pretty good value dinner at $ 45 and would easily rival some of the prix fixe menus you see happening for Taste of Yaletown.

Update — came back to try their dinner menu and will have to take a star away. The service and experience was great but the food doesn’t match the same quality of their drink selection in my opinion. I had the smoked pork shoulder($ 24) and the flavours were only OK. The shoulder wasn’t as moist as I had liked and with the $ 24 price tag I was hoping to be wowed.

I need to come back to really write a proper review, but… Had brunch here Sunday and it was quite delicious. Very tasty and artful. We shared 3 brunch items. Even the Cobb salad was delicious and original. I was quite impressed. Very laid back but good service. Aesthetically pleasing interior, design, and knick knacks. I quite enjoyed the space. I’d love to come back for dinner — the menu looks yummy and interesting. Also interested to see what kind of people show up. This can easily change to a 5⁄5 star.

Appetizers and main course were delicious. Chicken and waffles fantastic. However, service was lackluster. The water was room temperature, their non-alcoholic beverage selection was virtually nonexistent. Get the strong feeling that they were trying to steer you towards beer over anything else. The food was so good that I still wholeheartedly recommend this place.

Something to write home about at last. Owner Simon shakes your drinks hard. This is the best place for brunch on weekends; followed by a shot of American whiskey, absinthe or scotch. You may not be able to get away from the sixties music or the wild taxidermy, but the staff are good, friendly and will top up your coffee from time to time. The waffle ‘n’ egg McMamie was definitely worth writing home about. — — — — - They keep running out of the damn St. George Absinthe. I got almost the last bit. The staff were sniffing it from the bottle and my glass, tho’ that was a bit weird.

The work hubby and I came here for dinner after a long day of work with our Vancouver team. It’s in china town, but there is a sprinkle of cute hipster/foodie spots mixed into the area. Very random/very cool. We decided to go here since Ask for Luigi had a 2 hour wait and we weren’t about to wait. Soooooo Glad we came here, because we enjoyed everything. Seriously, everything! I’m sick so I ordered a hot toddy. It came in a huge mug with piglet on it… So so cute! And it was perfect for me. Shannon order the fried olives stuffed with blue cheese and currants– good flavors, small portion to get your palette going. I also ordered a side of fries for the table too. They were super crunchy and good. A generous portion for 4 and we all kept munching on throughout our meal. Here is what we ordered: Smoked lingcod & gnocchi, corn & bacon. Fried chicken & waffles Something stuffed Pierogi Roasted cauliflower & kale cannoli All I can say is we left stuffed. Everything was delicious, well made and pleasant service. It’s quiet and intimate. Perfect for dinner with friends. Enjoy!

Creative, delicious, comfort food. Love! 6 of us gorged on the below: 2 X Ham grenades: at $ 2 a tater, seems a little rich, but oh-so-worth it. 2 X Chicken and waffles: crispy, juicey, perfectly cooked paired with spongey warm waffles and watermelon salad. Must have! Grits and shrimp… can pass Pork belly salad, not bad. great vinaigrette and crispy greens Crispy port and tongue thingy… fresh sheet item for that night Dirty rice: DELISH! and the finale… deep fried apple. Jesus, I would sell my soul for it. All that, plus 2 alcoholic drinks per person. Stuffed to the gills and had to tuck and a roll out. Total per person, tax and tip included: $ 45.00. Steal. And major kudos to our awesome server who had to deal with our annoying, quirkiness, «think-we’re-so-funny» humour. Good eats, affordable and welcoming. do Mamie Taylor’s

Came here 2 days ago on a Sunday for dinner. Was my first time here. I’ve noticed it before while going to Phnom Penh but had no idea what it was called since they don’t seem to have a large visible sign. Anyway it’s a very spacious long narrow interior with hipster animals on its walls. Also be forewarned there is no air con inside, so it can easily be hotter inside than outside as was the case for me. Would be great for groups but… I had the Grilled Strip Loin Steak which is described as «Parmesan & peppercorn crust, potato purée, grilled broccoli, onion rings» for $ 26. The steak itself was fairly delicious and was thicker than how it appears in the picture. The rest of the fixings were also very good. Kind of pushing it with the $ 26 price though imho. Now here is the but. The food(and drinks) take a very long time to arrive. No joke. The restaurant was probably 15 to 20% capacity and most patrons were at the bar, but everything still took a fairly long time food and drinks. Since it’s my first time here, I’m not sure if this is a one-off or not. Good thing I was with great company so it didn’t feel as long. Food is pretty good, easy 4 maybe even a 4.5 stars out of 5. But unfortunately the lack of air con and lengthy waits for food and drinks brings my experience here down to a 3.

My husband and I met a couple friends to have brunch one afternoon here. Have never heard of the place or seen it because if I’m there, I’m usually b-lining it to Phnom Penh across the street. It was a Saturday and the place was not busy at all. Pretty much empty the whole way through. There were four of us and we decided to get a few things to all share so we have a taste of everything. We ordered the chicken and waffles, pork belly benny, the kentucky hot brown, and side of fruit salad with yogurt. All the food we had was super tasty. I especially liked the chicken and waffles, with green apple slaw on the side. The chicken had a nice crispy skin and juicy meat. The home fries were nice and crispy as well. I would recommend any of those dishes! The fruit salad was just ok — can’t remember what fruits it came with, but there was a heaping dallop of greek yogurt on top. Service was pretty standard and normal. The waitress made sure our cups and carafe was never empty of water. Food service was pretty fast as well, but again, wasn’t busy at all. Would come back to try other stuff on the menu.
