Today was a day off work and I stumbled out of bed at 10am.(Alright…stop the snickering.) Given the late start today, the first decision was what to eat. I was in the mood for a chicken burrito and headed over to Salsa Agave in Yaletown. To my disappointment, it was closed for the holidays. «No worries» I told myself as I knew there were other eateries on this stretch of Pacific Blvd. My next place to hit was DD Mau. My cravings switched to lemon grass chicken banh mi. I’m not by any means an impatient person, but when I saw a lineup, I kept walking and stumbled onto Panago which had a $ 6 individual pizza with drink lunch deal. I’m not a food snob and every now and then I need a pizza fix and today was the day for chicken pesto pizza. The pizza was no nonsense and tasty without the greasy feel you get from those places that sell by the slice. You can’t beat the value you get for $ 6. I’m sure we’ve all had days like these where we start out with a plan and veer off track. While I wouldn’t recommend Panago as a destination eatery, let’s not rule out the food chain either. They offer convenience, value, consistency, taste and even quality.

We don’t have Panago in America. Panago is weird. So we showed up in Vancouver for what was supposed to be a trip with friends, but just ended up being my wife and I. After finding the hotel and settling in, we looked for something to have delivered. Our choices from the hotel menus were Chinese and Panago. Figuring pictures were better than nothing, we obviously decided on Panago. We ordered the standard fare, Caesars, breadsticks, pizzas and dipping sauces. Panago’s ordering system is weird. Imagine ordering Domino’s online, except over the phone. Had it delivered to our hotel room. Inside… I KNOW, I KNOW. Don’t fall for the pictures on the menu. We learned our lesson. Panago’s menus do a really great job of making everything look fresh and amazing. All of the ingredients were in the right place, and everything was okay, but compared to those pictures, it wasn’t what we were expecting. Most telling was the advertisements of fresh ingredients in the menu. The dipping sauces come in factory sealed cups. PROTIP: Pass on the Italian tomato. Panago’s okay if you’re in a time crunch, I guess.

We had a business meeting and I ordered from here. It was odd that they were close by and yet they still had issues with delivery. It wasn’t lunch time and it wasn’t complicated. Pizza was just like any other Panago that I’ve been to.

Delivery guy took over an hour and still had to meet him on the street to get out dinner.

Ordered pizza for delivery. Pizza was hot when arrived and came quickly. Pizza looked and tasted as expected. The hot wings were tiny and overly salty.

Hate to sound like a lazy pig but here goes… After waking up from a morning nap I discovered 2 things…1. It was 1 pm! 2. I was starving! With no one to hang out with today I made my way down to my local Panago Pizza to try their $ 6 special! You get a 8 inch personal pizza and a drink for $ 5 and a Loonie! Pretty sweet! I think the people who know me would agree that I’m not usually a cheap ass, but man this was a great pizza deal! I ordered a steak and mushroom pizza and a Diet Pepsi! They freshly baked the pizza while I waited. 5 mins later I was chomping on a piping hot pizza! Of course Panago Pizza is far from fine dining, but if you’re hungry and need a fatty cheesey fix Panago’s $ 6 lunch deal rocks!

When I’m in DT, this is the best one to go to, simply for less traffic congestion issues. And plenty of metered parking. just be careful of the cyclist lane. It’s one of the bigger ones, clean, and good service. Call ahead for pickup and they’re usually on time. the Philly Cheesesteak on multigrain thin crust is a winner when i’m in the mood for non-neopolitan style ;)

Average take out pizza. They messed up my delivery order but corrected it surprisingly quickly.

Panago is a mediocre pizzaria, based on the fact that the people working there cant even out the toppings they put on a pizza. The jalepono sauce that I had purchased had some weird brown sauce stuck to the bottom of the lid which was pretty disgusting. My favourite pizza is the New York Deli and I always get it. Overall panago is okay in my opinion

When faced with the challenge of supplying food for 40 people with an hour to spare, we turned to Panago. I called their central line and placed my order. I let her know that I’ll be ordering 12 pizzas, so I’ll need some help in picking and choosing. Luckily, she was very patient as I asked and questioned her about all the different kinds of pizzas they had. 4 different cheese pizzas, 4 different veggies? Which one is better? Which one is more popular? Oh, was that a butter chicken pizza? I’ll take one of those. So, after a 10 minute call, our order was placed. We also just arrived at our pick up location, so when we got there, they haven’t even received the order yet. We informed them of what was coming, and the manager ensured us that everything would be ready in half an hour. He even allowed us to add orders of wings to our order. 30 minutes later, there it was: 12 pizzas, 12 dipping sauces, 6 orders of wings, 62L pops. All ready for us. He was also very friendly in that he offered us utensils, plates, and napkins. Best service ever at a pizza joint. Did I also mention that the pizzas and the chicken wings were also very tasty?

Why do people think that service should be any good at fast food joints where usually you don’t even pay tip if you’re picking it up yourself and they don’t even have a dine in option? Tried Panago at this location. They had coupons on the counter which basically halved my order total. Food was made to order, fast and good. I don’t care if you don’t smile at me as long as it’s good quality and preferably not too expensive, especially for pizza. It’s Yaletown, so it’s to be expected. I’d go back for sure. I had the Primo Pollo & the Veggie Mediterranean. Both were outstanding.

The problem with the Yaletown location is not the quality of the food, but of the service. I’ve been there several times, and the level of rudeness has been increasingly astonishing, whether its drivers who bump into you without acknowledgment when coming in the front door, or the staff that ignore you while you stand at the till, waiting to order. There are so many pizza options in this city, there’s no reason to subject yourself to this — I certainly no longer will.

Rosemary Garlic Breadsticks for the win. I’ve been meaning to go to Panago for some time, but they’re not on any of my normal routes, so I just don’t think of them. However that may change now. The rosemay garlic breadsticks were incredibly good! I’m sure it won’t be long before I’m thinking of them again. I got the cheddar dipping sauce, which I enjoyed, but next time I might have to try the chipotle cilantro dip too. And of course I’ll have to try their pizzas at some point too!
