Awful $ 3.00 for extra gravy? Really? Worst of all, not giving a polite warning telling me that beforehand that´s what it made me mad! Just one cup of coffee? No free refill? You do need every penny don’t you, Save on Meats? My country fried steak was way overcooked and my scrambled eggs were just that, scrambled eggs. I could have gone somewhere else for a 30 dlls breakfast with better view and better service! Avoid it. At all costs.

When my friends said we were having dinner at Save on Meats, the word that automatically came to mind was: «EWW!» I wasn’t really feeling the whole eating in a meat shop kinda thing. So I looked it up and looks like they had a decent menu. I walked in and was amazed that it was a tasteful diner. Milkshakes were so good and affordable($ 5). For a main, I built my own burger(which is great, because you get what you want). Sean was our server; nice guy and an all in all great experience!

Vancouver needs more restaurants/institutions like Save On Meats. These folks are doing some real good for the Downtown East Side. They have a program where you can purchase breakfast tokens($ 2, I think) and give them to someone who needs breakfast. They then exchange the token for a nice breakfast meal. The restaurant also tries to hire people from the neighbourhood who need a job with some guidance. The burgers are amazing! They come standard with two patties and you can customize your burger/salad/sandwich anyway you like. Just fill out the slip you’ll pick up at the bar near the door. The service is always friendly and quick. Just don’t order the gravy. It’s really quite gross, which is unfortunate:(.

I thought I would step in w my wife for lunch but as I pulled up an ogar or pirate or something yelled at me that I couldnt park in front of the restaurant. I said I was just letting my wife out and he started swearing cursing & using racial slurs. Calling me a f.n. Ch… k. I havent heard that term in ages. He had a broom & was beating a mat fr the establishment so I assumed he did work for them. I went inside to complain but couldnt find any manager. My wife said lets go but not before this ogar spit at my car. Maybe he s a homeless guy theyre helping out my wife said. A noble gesture but it did drive us away. I gave it 3 stars as I assume the food was as good as their 43 hastings location. But not a fair evaluation as we were frightened off by the homeless greeter. I joked to my wife he has a gimpy leg & one eye it wouldnt be a fair fight had he attacked me but I dont have the propensity for violence so I let it go. No time to involve the police either.

I have gone here a few times now with mixed feelings, the idea is great, the service is ok, the food is good, basic but good. My beef comes from constancy, and clarity of terms. Once I went and they burnt the onion rings almost to black and they still gave it to me. Not good in my books. And a few times I have gone there to notice the place filled with smoke due to the open kitchen design and poor ventilation. I was coughing my entire meal. Also when you write hash potato understand that this is not farmers potatoes they are not the same.

You might not expect it walking in but this place has the best burgers. Unique menu style and casual atmosphere. I recommend the roast beef sandwich too. There’s good beer too from a brewery called Persephone that’s based in Gibsons. Try coming for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday cuz it’s pretty spot on too.

ZOMG!!! Went for breakfast and nearly died of happiness, $ 7 for a traditional breakfast or $ 11 for a delicious omelette or eggs benny… If only they served breakfast everyday all day, but alas it’s only up on the weekends. My heart still sings with delight at the amazing value!

I went this past weekend as part of our«tripleD» and«you gotta eat here» tour. We were greeted warmly and instructed to pick a sandwich, burger or salad menu and sit where ever we would like. We split a burger and a chicken sandwich. They let you pick how ever many topping you would like with just a few that were an additional charge. And we shared a order of curly fries. The burger was so good that I find myself daydreaming about it 3 days later. It’s flavorful, perfectly cooked and not a sloppy mess. The chicken sandwich was good, we both agreed that it was dry. I wouldn’t have it again. The curly fries were perfection and the serving size was huge. The two servers were both nice, had smiles on their faces and made us feel welcome. I can’t wait to go back. Satisfied customer.

Same crew as Hastings location, but way swankier in the very first older Boneta location corner of Carroll and Cordova… Picnic benches, big bar –beers on tap and flying pigs everywhere. Fun friendly staff and original menu from Save on Meats with a twist. The poutine here is one the tops in town, the fresh made huge curds are amazing as they have a cheddar flavor in them. I ate them to fast for a picture, next time.
