Tops Restaurant

So I was wondering about brunch and this place came to mind. Eggs Benedict today. AWESOME! I should mention that the coffee is very good too and bottomless !

The waitress was very attentive. Our glasses were never empty. The beef rice soup was incredibly salty, and she noticed we didn’t touch it and offered us salad to exchange for it.
Food ²⁄₅ wasn’t the best food. But we did show up at 1am, so the chefs were probably tired. Won’t return for the food at all, unless I’m drunk and super hungry at midnight (because anything tastes good when you’re drunk).

I checked this place out today for breakfast with my fiancé. We live super close and for over a year and we have never experienced Tops ever. We were surprised and it’s our new favourite spot! We absolutely love it; friendly and fast service plus amazing food and basically anything you want :) so worth it!!!

Wish I’d tried this place years ago. Meat lovers breakfast was adequate size but surprised with the quality. Strawberry waffle was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, pretty great. The best part of the whole experience was the server. Will be back before too long, despite above average price.

Came for breakfast, have gone back multiple times while visiting Vancouver during women World Cup. Little gem of a place with parking in the back. Comparable to a Denny’s or Shari’s but better. Better food, better service, and owners that work and hustle. Highly recommend even if you have to drive.

I think a big reason why this place is still around is because there is not much else near by besides Chinese restaurants and Dairy Queen. Any similar restaurants are at least 2 kilometers out of the way. I’ve been coming here sporadically for the last 15 years and more so the last 2 years.
I don’t go because it’s good but because it’s good enough. Pricing wise, their menu is about 10% higher than similar restaurants like Knight & Day. I never decided to post a comment until today because I had a disappointing experience recently. I ordered their Salisbury steak and I am almost certain they served me one of those frozen hamburger patties that you get in the frozen section of a supermarket. It was just too round and cut too clean to be homemade. It also had that texture and taste reminiscent of a hamburger patty from a cheap barbecue at the beach. If this is the kind of ethic they have towards the food they serve customers then I don’t have much confidence in the way they operate.

Food… well breakfast was excellent. The young lady serving was kind of cold and pushy to get me out of the restaurant ??? A little more friendly attitude would be nice. Couldn’t wait for me to leave. Strange !!!

My number one place to chow some good food. A reliably good place.
The roast lamb is a «must have» but I grab a classic breakfast on the go often.
The staff are very friendly and don’t turn over fast, it seems to be consistently good service, comfort food and the big screens make it a great place to catch a game also

We have a favourite waitress here, her name is Jennifer. She always remembers our drink preferences and how we like our food cooked (ie steak cooked blue rare and eggs sunny side)

We have lived in the neighbourhood since 2002 but this is the first time we’ve eaten here. We dropped by for lunch and found the service prompt but lacking in terms of friendliness.
No complaints with regards to the lunch special (burger & fries) chosen.

Pretty great food! The place was packed but we got in right away and the service was great!

A great dinner in a clean, friendly, family-​owned and operated restaurant.
Our group of four ordered two steak specials which were done to perfection. The roast lamb dinner was succulent and tender, not stringy and overloaded with meat tenderizer, as in many other spots. The small order of Alfredo fettucine with chicken was fragrant and al dente.
Pumpkin soup was thick and yummy, with a hint of ginger, and a natural thickening from pureed veg, not flour. Our starter Caeser salads were topped with a creamy, nicely textured dressing, just right.
The Greek salad caused a mouth-​gasm in our otherwise sedate dinner partner.
The stunner was the dessert, which was included with our $ 22.00 dinner specials. Wow-​ee! Half of a monster cupcake, place on its side and bookended by whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. And our lovely waitress included a dessert for our fettucine eater, gratis.
Some folks won’t like this place, but I do and so will many others. Yes the décor is dated, but it is clean and sparkly and the owners are on site. The food is top-​notch, lots of veg, real sour cream for the baked potatoes and Texas toast garlic bread.
Five stars because our dinner partners were retired restaurant operators and very fussy about their eats.
Real food for folks who enjoy a good dinner on a night out. Free parking out back, and the Number 19 Kingsway bus stops right in front. Directly across the street from Purdy’s chocolate factory.

The service was very friendly. The setup is very old fashioned which I do like feels like a old mafia diner. Very cool. Family owned business which I prefer over food chains. Food I would say is ok. It’s definitely a good place for hangovers. I found my burger a little salty but the yam fries were delish. I would definitely go back there!

I had been going to this place 10+ years ago as I used to live quite close. Recently in the past few years, I’ve been further away so coming here was quite out of the way. I made my return to a place I used to frequent quite often. Upon entry, I noticed that the décor remains dingy and outdated. But I was still excited to get my eat on.
It seems since I last ate here ~5 years ago, they used to serve the Spaghetti Al Forno in a large metal circular dish. The spaghetti was one of my staple dishes in my visits. It was always loaded with meat sauce and covered in cheese, a gluttonist’s dream. With my last visit, the spaghetti al forno now comes in a smaller, oval ceramic baking dish. The portion has clearly been reduced. Although the top is still covered in cheese, I noticed that when I lifted the covers, I was no longer seeing a sea of sauce with the pasta. I was welcomed with spotty sections of noodle that was missing sauce and a olive oily base. I got the large, but portion was smaller than the original’s small.

Next on the chopping block — Chicken Fettucini Alfredo. This dish was always a first-​option in my visits. The decision I had to make was small or large, the latter usually won. The dish tasted quite the same, very creamy alfredo sauce with nicely al dente fettucini noodles. However, the portion size was again, reduced. The small and large used to be served on a large plate. The small is now served on a bowl on the plate. The price has gone up on this dish as well. $ 15 for a small and $ 17 for a large. For that price, I would expect a lot more chicken than what seemed like half of one chicken breast cut up. Although the taste was the same, there was simply not enough food. This is supposed to be Italian food, not French fine dining.

All in all, what I’ve noticed is that the only thing that has changed with Top’s is the prices seem to have gone up across the menu. But if what I noticed with my two staples are any indicator, I will not be as full as I once was. I used to not even think twice about going to Top’s, but now I highly doubt I will return.

Nice service, that would be a 4.
Menu is too pricey for mediocre counter food. Very deceptive reviews here, but $ 14 for omelette and $ 3 for coffee simply was too much. Again, service was good, so they got the 20%, but you could experience the equivalent or better at Reno’s or Duffin’s.

They are a Blast from the Past!
This restaurant has been around for years. The décor is very 80s.
The breakfast is hearty and the service is good! These servers are pro and has been there for years. They are friendly, fast and leave you alone without always coming by and interrupting your meal.
Ordered the Farmer’s breakfast, comes with 2 eggs any style (soft poached for me), choice of Country Ham, Bacon or Sausage + hash browns and toasts.
The breakfast is huge! The eggs are done perfectly and the hash is crispy.
They offer Free Wifi and delivery.
Great place to go if you need a good place to meet for breakfast or lunch. They are open for dinner also.

My buddy and I have been coming to this place for many many years. The old Greek guy that owns it must have been running it for like 30 years! His son is working there now. I think he’s next in line to run it for another 30 years!
Friendly place. The waitresses come and go but the owner is willing to come around and say hi to yah! The décor is a bit 70’s, but it’s passable. Clean and functional. I would say the trendy crowd would avoid this place like the plague., but that’s ok. Tops is as non pretentious as you can get!
The food is always good! Good hearty portions of good wholesome comfort food!
I had the Italian omelet and an orange juice. Super full! All I have to say is Tops is the tops in my book!

As long as you’re selective about the food your order, it’s average for the area. Not too bad, not good either, however, it serves it’s purpose especially since there’s nothing else in the hood. Prices are very decent and the customer service is great which is why I keep returning when I am not particularly picky about where or what I need… just need fuel to get me through the hours until the real meal.

We came here the other night craving pasta. The place was regular amount of busy when we got there, until a group of 40 showed up. Some sports tourny group in pjs. The service was then slow, those poor waiters were running around trying to appease all these obnoxious teens demands! I have to applaud them, they served them, gave me their check and didn’t even make a mandatory tip. We asked our waiter why and he said he figured they would tip. He was literally sweating from all that running! Needless to say, they comped us all free desserts for being patient :) this place is awesome! Class act.

Surprising that no one has ever reviewed this resto that seems to be here forever. I searched for 3 pages then decided the heck with it lol
Ordered their French Toast, good & fluffy with white sugar powder & butter provided, as it should. Just wished they were thicker slices.
B/​c of free WIFI & own parking lot of about 10 spots, it’s worth coming back again to try rest of their menu.
Good size location with booth seating too.
A good alternative to Dennys & such in this hood.
