I wish they did samples. I’m not adventurous enough to blindly order a whole Matcha or Red Bean. The regular Milk was great though. I added toasted coconut and granola with condensed milk drizzle. The texture of the soft serve was amazing. Definitely going back, hopefully they’ll have different flavors to try soon.

It’s a pretty simple concept, a bright and clean interior serving soft serve ice cream using only organic milk and fresh ingredients. The idea is pretty straight forward, pick your flavour; a rotation of a special flavour and the original milk ice cream. How many toppings you’d like and a free drizzle of sauce.

Best ice cream in Vancouver. Stopped in at UYU after seeing a post on Instagram. I’m not s huge fan of sweets, but man was the ice cream perfect here.
First of all, it’s made from organic milk. Second, there aren’t random flavors and makes picking out your ice cream really easy. Third, the ice cream itself is super creamy and not overly sweet, which is not the case at most run of the mill ice cream places.
It’s a little on the pricier side, but definitely worth it. Try the regular ice cream from organic milk with a passion fruit drizzle.

I was in need of ice cream, when I crave something I must have it ASAP. It was dead empty when I entered (the faster I can get my craving) so that was great!
I tried their new flavor the red bean. It came out looking more like a light purple color than a nice red like red bean. The flavor was lacking, didn’t taste much like red bean. First flavor I have that was disappointing from them.
Also it seems like their portions have shrunk since the last time I been back. And the middle of the soft serve is fairly hollow, so you don’t get as much ice cream as you like.

Cute location just a few blocks from Tinseltown. A grab and go spot with very limited seating. They had 3 flavours of soft serve organic milk ice cream. Tried the original organic milk with two toppings — chocolate pistachio bark and freeze dried strawberries. Had condensed milk as the topping.
It’s a nice, light Dessert. Priced comparably with other soft serve places. You get a free drizzle with order. My preference is real ice cream at places like rain or shine and earnest. A lot more flavour for the same price.

When I heard this place was serving Milk Tea soft serve ice cream, it was an instant bookmark and need to get my bum over there STAT!
I finally got the chance to go here with my friend Andrea P. There were two options: Organic Milk and Milk Tea (YESSSS!!!) We of course chose the Milk Tea with 2 toppings for $ 5.50. No toppings was $ 4.75 and 3 toppings was $ 5.75.
The display of toppings was very organized and reminded me of the perfectly displayed items in an Apple store. Lots of unique ingredients such as freeze dried fruits, chocolate bark, various kinds of fancy nuts like almond slivers, honey roasted sunflower seeds, roasted coconut and more.
I chose the freeze dried raspberries and almond slivers. Each serving also comes with a free drizzle — so many to chose from as well — passion fruit, condensed milk, chocolate, and more.
The milk tea soft serve was just as I wished for it to taste; a very smooth texture with a nicely balanced taste of milk tea and creamy ice cream. The raspberries were a nice tart contrast to the sweet ice cream and the almonds added a good contrast in texture. Next time, I wouldn’t even mind just the soft serve on its own with a drizzle of condensed milk — so I can enjoy this wonderful treat in all its own glory.
Cute little shop with some wall seating, a nice rustic and modern interior and very nice staff. I believe the flavours change occasionally, so milk tea might not always be there (sadface) but i’m sure they’ll have other delicious flavours in store. Overall, a really cool treat if you’re near the Gastown area!

After a lovely Unilocal event at the International Village Cinema, a few of us went to grab some ice cream nearby at UYU. It’s in Gastown and it was my first time there so I was glad someone introduced me to it! Apparently, «Uyu» is Korean for milk and they only use organic ones. It’s a very small shop, with no tables inside and just a little bench to the side but I guess most people just take their ice cream to go. However, the place was very well lit and I liked the décor.
They also have very limited selection, with only 3 flavours of ice cream available at a given time. I heard that the two flavours change bi-​weekly and the third is always original. When I went, their flavours were original, matcha, and pumpkin spice. There’s several toppings to choose from like fruits, nuts, granola, etc. and a drizzle sauce. The toppings are additional but the drizzle sauce is free! They had condensed milk, honey, and raspberry drizzle at the time but like their ice cream flavours, I think they change every so often.
I tried their matcha with honey drizzle on a cone and it was pretty good! The ice cream was very smooth and creamy and the cone was crispy. I thought it was on par with Soft Peaks but also very expensive. I didn’t get any toppings but this was already $ 5! It’s great once in a while but I wouldn’t go here regularly just for ice cream.

Finally got to try the chocolate shot for $ 1.25 and their milktea flavor along with two toppings. The chocolate shot is recommended for all those chocolate lovers out there but for me it was just too much. It masked the milktea flavor of the softserve, so I’d recommend getting the organic milk (original) flavour with the chocolate shot. Technically what the chocolate shot is, is hot/​warm Belgian chocolate poured over your softserve (after toppings are placed) which forms a chocolate-​y crust.
Personally, I would prefer my softserve without the chocolate because the chocolate is hot/​warm when it’s poured onto the softserve and partially melts the ice cream and I also found it a bit difficult to eat with the chocolate shell coated. So weighing pros and cons and since I’m not a huge chocolate fan, I’d rather go without. Lastly, my all-​time favourite topping is freeze-​dried bananas.

I bookmarked this new ice cream place for months. Yes, I have a lot of places bookmarked on «to eat list».
After having dinner at Gastown, we walked by UYU ice cream that was on the way to pick up my car.
The UYU concept is soft serve in milk/​plain and two rotating feature flavours (tonight was milk tea and black sesame) in a cone or cup with optional toppings like freeze dried strawberries and nuts and included drizzle of sauce (flavours include honey, caramel, passion fruit and others)
I didn’t bother to get toppings, I just got black sesame soft serve then left.
I was quite disappointed of my black sesame flavour. It was grainy, chalky and powdery.
It wasn’t bad but I still missing the best soft serve ice cream in Japan & Hong Kong.

UYU is more expensive than Soft Peaks and you get slightly less soft-​serve ice cream. But it is more interesting for several reasons:
–Ice cream flavours rotate every 2 weeks (used to be weekly).
–Lots of toppings you can choose. Some, however, are tweezered onto your ice cream instead of liberally sprinkled — like the freeze-​dried fruits.
–You get to choose one drizzle for free.
–You can add a shot of chocolate (which basically coats the top of your ice cream with a crust of chocolate) for $ 1.25
Two toppings plus chocolate shot can quickly add up to just over $ 7. It’s sort of atrocious for ice cream, but, like Soft Peaks, just make sure you don’t get something that turns out to be a reasonable facsimile of a tub you can get at Superstore. It is also still more interesting than two comparably priced scoops at a place like Earnest Ice Cream.
–For toppings, I recommend honey toasted sunflower seeds and freeze dried banana as two very flavourful choices.
–Careful with the drizzle afterwards, because if you choose something sharp like passion fruit, it can ovewhelm flavours.
–Also carefully consider whether you want the chocolate shot. It can create problems: You might end up with unwieldy too-​large chunks of chocolate, and the ice cream can coat the chocolate, masking the flavour anyway. Plus, it’s Belgian chocolate, so price for portion is really not there at $ 1.25. You could instead choose one of the chocolate bark toppings.

I was really excited to try UYU since I heard that their ice cream is comparable to SOFTREE in South Korea but unfortunately, it wasn’t really on the same level.
The soft serve itself was very good since it was very refreshing and smooth, but it definitely wasn’t as creamy and thick as the soft serve that I ate in South Korea and Japan (specifically Hokkaido!)
I got to try the black sesame and tiramisu, and I found that the black sesame was a bit underwhelming. The tiramisu was the clear winner for this round since it was very unique. UYU is definitely good in its own way and it’s organic so I’ll definitely come back someday to try their other flavours!

I’m a huge fan of ice cream. I can’t live without it. So when I saw photos of the soft serve at this place, I was excited to go try it!
First of all, I love the clean décor that they have. It makes a great background for photos :) Also, their menu is simple and easy to read. They have two rotating flavours biweekly, and an organic milk flavour available all the time. Before they rotated weekly, but they announced on their instagram that they would be doing it every 2 weeks instead.
All soft serves come with one complimentary drizzle. Toppings are extra. Drizzles range from fruity (raspberry, passion fruit, strawberry) to sweet (caramel, honey, condensed milk). The price is the same for a cup or cone. After tax, a soft serve with no toppings comes to $ 5.
The first week I went, the had a Kinako (roasted soy) flavour and Earl Grey. I had the Earl Grey, and I really liked it. The flavour was light, but at the same time, the soft serve was nice and creamy. I had it with the honey drizzle at the recommendation of the staff.
Two weeks later I was back and they had Matcha and Pumpkin Spice. I had the Matcha with condensed milk drizzle. It was really good, but quite similar to other matcha soft serves I had tried elsewhere. For example the convenience store Konbiniya on Robson has a much cheaper soft serve that typically tastes just as good. However, UYU does have premium toppings and drizzles that can really change the flavour of the soft serve. I had the chance to taste the original milk with raspberry drizzle and it was really good. The drizzle had an authentic taste to it — no fake stuff here — and it complemented the original milk flavour. Not to mention it contrasted beautifully and made for a really nice photo.
Perhaps next time I will try a soft serve with toppings. I noticed that the staff use «tweezers» to individually place each fruit topping on the soft serve, which is incredibly detail oriented of them. And their toppings uniquely include some freeze dried fruits. Hmm, I wonder if they can put toppings on a cone soft serve. I’ll be back!

After having dinner or late night snack in Gastown, I walked by UYU icecream that was on the way to pick up my car. I remember I bookmarked this ice cream place that I must try it, so I walked into the icecream store.
The first thing I saw was the price lists above my head. I kept looking for the icecream flavours and what UYU offered. I couldn’t find any until the cashier asked me to check on a small standing menu on the counter. The flavours or menu of the icecream were not visible until someone pointed it out right in front of me. The icecream store only had limited flavours: pumpkin spice, matcha and original organic milk tonight. I tried matcha icecream in a cup at $ 5 with one topping. I picked the honey dressing for the topping that was a good combination with the match icecream.
Overall, UYU offers soft icecream that is different from Earnest Icecream and Rain and Shine. UYU icecream tastes very good. Its texture is very soft and it contains good milk in it. I would love to try other flavours in a waffle cone next time.
Note: there are not too many seats inside the icecream store.

I was so excited to try UYU (pronounced woo-​you in Korean) and finally got to try their icecream today. It was pretty busy the last time I came. They had Vietnamese iced coffee and milk tea flavour back then and it was different this time. They had pumpkin spice, milk and matcha flavour.
I picked matcha flavour and it was good. Icecream was soft and rich. I really liked the sweetness of matcha icecream. Service was fast. I paid $ 5 without toppings and didn’t seem worth spending for in my personal opinion. Matcha icecream from Konbiniya charges lesser than $ 5 and tastes the same just that UYU sells organic icecream.
They only sell 3 different flavours for soft serve. And I can simply go to Earnest or elsewhere to sample before the purchase. I’d give 3.5 stars.

I saw this reviewed on the front page of Unilocal on August 10, 2015 and decided to book mark it for future reference.
This was a block down from Tinseltown, therefore, the best friend and I shared a pumpkin Fro Yo before the Madonna show.
They only had 3 flavors at the time, however, they rotate every 2 weeks which gives us another reason to come back.
Standing room only with some limited seating, therefore, consider this more of a grab and go situation.
They have limited but somewhat healthy toppings.
Great customer service, loved the fro yo, however, they’re a little skimpy on the toppings for what they charge you. There is a fine line between respectably conservative and cheap.
Customer service was good.

UYU Ice Cream, Abbott Street’s newest ice cream parlour is now open and serving organic soft serve made from fresh ingredients. «Uyu» means «ice cream» in Korean as they’re bringing more of Southeast Asia’s dessert culture to Vancouver.
I was immediately taken with the standard original milk flavour and its light creaminess and rich flavour. The first week special Belgian chocolate was intensely flavourful (almost too much) with tons of decadent chocolate notes in a smooth package. However, it was the Vietnamese coffee flavour (with caramel drizzle, above) that had me. I grew up on cà phê sa đá and really enjoyed the mild but refreshing coffee taste.
Both the chocolate raspberry and Thai tea weekly special flavours were quite tasty. The former had a light fruitiness to its chocolate flavour while the the subtle tea hints of the latter were very refreshing and delicious.
Vancouver’s diverse ice cream scene continues to grow and evolve from gelato to gourmet/​artisanal, frozen yogurt, and now soft serve. UYU’s product is something I can easily see enjoying as a treat frequently. I look forward to their rotating weekly flavours.

They have amazing flavours of soft serve here. It’s the only reason I would come here. I’ve had the Vietnamese coffee and milk tea and basically tastes exactly how you would imagine it. I have no idea how they do it.
I like how they make it all about the flavours of soft serve rather than bombarding you with an outrageous amount of toppings where the ice cream/​soft serve/​froyo is basically second fiddle to the toppings. But free drizzle!
The décor and look is very clean, modern, sleek, and almost futuristic looking. Service has been quick and fast as well. I’m not really a dessert or sweets guy, but this place gets 5 stars with me!

I had crazy high expectations for uyu because of the reviews I have read. However for froyo I still love my yogen!
But. ⁴⁄₅ for the toppings. I tried freeze dried raspberries (I would have preferred fresh fruit) pistachio bark (good) and raspberry drizzle over my organic milk ice cream. Tasty but def not mind blowing. I did get to try the Tahitian tea it was good.

UYU Ice Cream is a new dessert shop on 433 Abbott St., Gastown beside Prado Café and Tacomio. Similar to Soft Peaks, UYU Ice Cream uses only organic milk and local ingredients. Their flavors changes weekly. Sometimes you will get Earl Grey Tea with Vanilla and have a London Fog twist cone. Other days you will get Vietnamese Coffee and Matcha Green Tea.
UYU offers a variety of toppings like freeze dried fruits like oranges, strawberry, raspberry, other berries; nuts, granola and sunflower seeds. They also have other more unique items like black sesame powder.
I like that they aren’t going down the whole Fruit Loops, sugar high rush type condiments.
There are only two items on their menu: 1. soft serve ice cream 2. ice cream bars. Why complicate matters?!

Vietnamese Coffee soft serve ice cream with freeze dried raspberry, black sesame powder and black currant drizzle. There was a nice balance of coffee flavors to milk. The black currant drizzle was delicious and not too sweet.
So how does it compare to Soft Peaks Ice Cream? UYU is slightly sweeter. Both are creamy and rich. I liked that they offer completely different toppings and flavors. Why compete when you can have both?
I can just see a whole new purpose of going to Spin Class at Eastwood. Better make it a double!
UYU Ice Cream is designed by Campos Leckie Studio (the smal folks that brought you Small Victory Bakery). Clean, minimalist space focused on geometric designs. It is chic and modern.
There are no tables or seats at UYU. Grab your ice cream to go unless you don’t mind sitting on the window sill.

I swear UYU Ice Cream is doing everything right beginning with the beautiful minimalistic interior and graphic design to the simple concept of serving soft serve + ice cream bars with toppings. They haven’t officially opened yet and this review is based on my visit during their soft opening but I see so much potential and already know that UYU Ice Cream is going to be the next crowd pleaser.
At UYU Ice Cream, they offer organic soft serve and ice cream bars with a unique selection of toppings for a fair price. Toppings include the usual granola, nuts, honey roasted sunflower seeds or toasted coconut bits to more unique options like dried freeze fruits, black sesame powder, pistachio or almond barks. Additionally, all orders of soft serve comes with complimentary drizzle. Kevin was super friendly and helpful, I could sense his excitement and passion he has for his premium organic soft serve and ice cream products. I appreciated his topping recommendations for each different flavour of soft serve.
During my visit, they were serving milk, chocolate, and earl grey tea flavoured soft serve. Of course I had to try one of each and I was so impressed! The original milk soft serve was pretty solid in terms of flavour, consistency, and sweetness. The chocolate was also true to its flavour and I was amazed to hear that it was made 100% from Belgium chocolate instead of cocoa powder. The only flavour that could be slightly adjusted was the earl grey as I felt like it could be improved with a notch up of earl grey flavouring. Having said that, the soft serve was overall fantastic and a lot better than many local soft serve spots. I had my milk soft serve with black sesame powder and honey roasted sunflower seeds; needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed every spoon of it.
They will be having weekly rotating flavours and the upcoming flavours will include cereal milk, black sesame, and matcha soft serve. Can’t wait to taste them and I’m also looking forward to trying their ice cream bars.
PS. I was evidently so blown away by their soft serve that it isn’t till the end of the review for me to mention that there are no seats inside the shop as the store front is pretty small. This wasn’t a big deal to me as it wasn’t too busy when I went.
