I contacted them on behalf of the place I work for to obtain a quote for weekly cleaning of our shared office space.
They responded to my inquiry within 3 hours and immediately scheduled an on-​site estimate.
Karen came in to give the quote. She is the owner of the business. The first impression that she made when she walked in the door wasn’t positive. I am a huge believer in branding your services. She didn’t come in with any identifying apparel of who she was. You may be the owner, however, properly branding yourself goes miles. I am not allowed to leave the office on business related errands without shop apparel (including bank deposits).
She did talk a big game including giving references to some of the major companies they work for as well as a portfolio, however, she came across a little aggressive which was a turn off. There’s a difference between trying to be professional and aggressive. You either have the connection skills or you don’t.
I don’t like to be intimidated or scared into needed more services than we actually needed. I think I was personally insulted when she insulted the company vacuum that I like to nick name Bumble Bee (yellow vacuum that looks like a transformer) ’cause it didn’t have a hepa filter. She made us feel as though we were criminals. No one insults my favorite office vacuum (everyone knows that I like to vacuum the office on Fridays with Bumble Bee).
The office is a shared space between another small business. Both us and them share the same corporate culture. Although they were competitive in price compared to the other quotes that came in the same week, we decided not to go with these guys. We collectively based this decision on the presentation, the lack of branding and the aggressive tone. The truth is that this company did not fit the corporate culture that we have maintained and thrived here.
It’s not Karen’s fault. Perhaps ’ no one has ever told her that he harsh approach in the business world can turn off clients and that intimation isn’t going to get you the sale. The truth is that we don’t have a lot of public walk ins and she minorly insulted us by stating that our businesses was not presentable enough. I can understand that she was making a sale.
They also cost by project which was odd considering that the 3 other places we got quotes from did it on an hourly basis.
Karen made a good presentation on the technical side but she needs to learn to just soften her approach.
I also have to think about the other staff members and ensure that we are bringing in people that foster and encourage a corporate culture that we have worked hard to cultivate.
