There are so many good restaurant around rock beach. I decided to try them all one by one. Last weekend, we went Charlie Don’t Surf because there are big screens so my sister can watch ball game. It’s a pretty bright and open restaurant that you can enjoy sunshine and scent of the ocean. For me, it’s good to take pictures for food as I like taking pictures for everything. Food is pretty good but too bad they don’t have raw oysters for brunch. I like the Ahi Tuna Chop Chop Pokee the most. Raw chopped tune mixed with pineapple tastes a little bit sweet and very fresh. I love it.

Some of the worst fish & chips in all of Canada. Absolutely no taste to the fish, soggy and the batter was under cooked. Not sure when the last time the place was given a good cleaning, we had a nice waitress, but her cloths looked like they could use a good cleaning and had been slept in the last 2 weeks. To say we made a mistake going to Charlie’s is an understatement, not recommended

The burger I ordered was pretty subpar and kind of overpriced. The sweet potato fries were a bit over-fried too. The service is alright and it’s obviously a nice place right across from the beach, but I’d probably go elsewhere for the same fare.

Service is slow and there were tons of waitresses just walking around with their hands in their pockets, bartender was falling behind but no one could help him… almost walked right out… twice!

This place is quite amazing. The staff seem super empowered to do what ever they need to to make customers happy. The beer is cold. The bartender very friendly. The food, especially the calamari, is delicious. The server was friendly and on the ball. The décor is very eclectic. The location is superb being located directly across from the White Rock Pier. The only downfall(which isn’t their fault) is the parking fees. I guess we can blame the city for that. Overall, I give Charlie Don’t Surf two big thumbs up.

Saw this place on a blog site and my hubby and I paid a visit today. I had the pacific cod fish and chips and he the halibut fish and chips. We both enjoyed it but didn’t think it was worth $ 16 and $ 25. Plus his sweet potato fries were overlooked. The waitress only came by once to see how things were and we had to go to the bar for more water.

We ordered the cod fish and chips were only mediocre it didn’t stand out, there was too much batter and the fish didn’t taste fresh. Friend ordered the fish Taco and they said they would recommend it, it’s looks like a nice and refreshing dish with allot of veggies.

Overall, our experience at Charlie Don’t Surf was disappointing… We decided on Charlie Don’t Surf last Sunday, going in knowing that the wait for a table would probably be a longer one. To our surprise we were seated very promptly. There were many open tables towards the back of the restaurant. As the evening progressed it became very apparent that the restaurant was understaffed and the kitchen was overwhelmed. We waited over an hour for our food. The long wait made some sense since our group was 8 people. But other tables(some of just 2 people) were waiting a long time just as we were, and some walked out of the restaurant after a long wait. The servers seemed stressed and embarrassed about the whole situation.
The washroom was a disaster! The garbage bin was overflowing with paper towels in one corner onto the floor, which was covered in water. The washroom also did not have a pleasant odor. Regarding the food… I ordered the Tuna Club, and I found it to be good, but it was a small sandwich. The meals came with a large serving of fries, but the yam fries tasted like they were cooked in old oil and were not warm when they came to the table. The dried ribs were very dry and lacked seasoning. The restaurant itself is quite big, so perhaps they should not overexert themselves, so they are able to maintain better customer service.

Ridiculously superb hospitality. Solid food. Emily, Brent and Kyle took great care of me all week while I was in town for business.

Charlie don’t surf is a staple in white rock. This is fancy bar food, which is great! I love the fish and chips and the nachos. Although they are simple dishes they are delicious and always fresh. They do have other fishes if fried foods are not your thing. The burgers are great, as well as the tuna poke, which is great and fresh. I love the selection and the food!

Kyle our server was spectacular. The atmosphere was fun and a great place to have a few beers on a Sunday afternoon. The music was fun and selected by the owner John who was making sure everyone was enjoying their experience. The burgers are great. They have a few local craft beers to choose from. I will be back.

Awesome food last weekend with my husband! Our server, Shalee, was fantastic! So much so we came back with some friends the weekend after! We got a group together to come back for the concert in the park and the food was just as amazing but… We requested her to be our server again when we showed and saw her there. She even recognized us and made a point to say hello. We requested her to our hostess but we were given someone else. He was just barely okay. The food is fantastic and well worth the stop but the service seems to be all over the board. If you can request her and she is there, in our experience, it was much better.

First time here, had a craving for fish and chips, so I ordered their halibut and it’s pretty average taste. It is a bit more pricey for only 2 pieces for $ 25 where else where gets you 3. The only thing good is you get the view of the beach. Overall average.

Charlie don’t surf, and apparently don’t cook very well either. I knew this was a tourist booby trap the moment i laid eyes on it, but i thought what the heck, it couldn’t be that bad. I was wrong. The waitresses were only saving grace of this place, courteous and attentive. The food was a travesty. The sandwich my friend had was dry and boring. The chips were obviously packaged, and they were pretty salty and soft by the time they came out. My halibut was no better, the batter broke apart from the fish the moment i tried to cut it in half. The batter was soft and bland, and the fish has a weird taste to it. The pieces weren’t even big. All that fish n chips for 17 $? Not a good look. Bye.

2 stars only because the waitress was nice. Unfortunately our anchors not so much. No cheese and what there was wasn’t melted, asked for beef they maybe sprinkled a teaspoon on it but worst was they hid a ton of tiny broken pieces of chips under the top layer. Not cool

I don’t even know where to start. Hubby and I walked in during happy hour but were anything but happy during the entire experience. The ambience promises a unique experience and maybe that’s what we had… we were seated promptly and then waited almost 20 minutes before our server came to the table with water. Then she didn’t come back for another 10 minutes to take our orders… so we had a total of 30 mins to look over the menu. When we finally placed our order it came out within 10 minutes(which was a huge redeeming quality) but I had to wait until we got to the end of our meal before she came over to ask how everything was… and to get a refill on my water. Hubby commented on the fact that there were a few servers just hanging around, so if you don’t mind waiting for your food… I ordered the veggie flatbread(which was pretty good) and yam fries(which tasted like they’d been left in the fryer too long). Hubby had the chargrilled chicken burger(said the chicken was good) and the fries were on par with a fast food chain. He had the house make pale ale(I should’ve put in an order for two glasses of water when she first came to our table).

What a great place!!! We sat at the bar and ordered a Ceasar wow that was awesome loaded with celery so crisp fresh, beans, pickled onion, hot pepper and a huge olive was so good!!! The bartender was GREAT… The décor was funky, every table packed and tons of staff. The amount of food that came out of the kitchen was incredible and you will want to try every dish… Mmmmmmm the fish and chips looked to die for and we wanted to try them but the portions are massive and we were full. Food is amazing we had the flat bread BYFARBESTWEHAVEEVERHAD! And we ordered the dry ribs wow huge portion 9 $ and amazing flavor the bartender even offered hot sauce we said we would love it and he brought us 2 different kinds… Over and above service!!! Give this place a try you will NOT be disappointed! We will be back that’s for sure… We went a cpl years ago and had pizza and I remember that was to die for!!! The owner prim(think that was his name) is GREAT such awesome service and great person to talk to… Thx for those AWESOME chips can’t wait to see them on the menu!!! Keep up the awesome work guys! You’ve got it all right! Wish you were our local but we will do the drive or boat to come again very soon!!!

Beautiful space inside, very cozy and warm esp on a rainy afternoon and great location across from the Ocean. Breakfast portions are quite small and leave you feeling kind of disappointed. Chicken clubhouse was pretty decent tasting with lots of flavor and the fries were super crispy and yummy. I would have liked more options on the menu, esp for breakfast. A bit overpriced($ 8 for a dessert) but typical for the area. Service was very good and friendly.

Great atmosphere, fun, friendly waiters and waitresses and tasty food. This is a great place to hang out in the summer and all thru the year. It is very cozy, comfortable and nicely decorated. You feel you are back in England and in other European pubs. The food is delicious. Great place to watch sports, too, while enjoying a great meal.

All in all this is a fine choice for a tasty meal with a great view. Probably one of the best deals on the beach. If you’re looking for fresh high-quality seafood I’d go elsewhere though. We ordered the lobster sliders and they were extremely«fishy» smelling and stingy for lobster. The salmon burger was OK, but the ingredients could have been assembled more thoughtfully — I like red onion but a whole ¼″ thick slab covering my whole sandwich? A tad overkill.
