Monticchio Ristorante Italiano

Avoid ordering from here at all costs. I placed an order for three dishes, the only thing that came as it was ordered was the side salad that comes with the pasta entrée. I contacted the restaurant and they advised they would refund the order. I then recived a call from just eat and was informed the restaurant would now only be authorizing a refund for $ 15 from this $ 55 completely inedible mess they sent me… Long story short, this place makes boston pizza look like a 5 star gourmet Italian reastraunt… Do yourself a favour, order from somewhere else.

The service was excellent, the atmosphere was very comfortable and relaxing. The food was the best I have ever had! We went with 4 adults and 1 child, everyone loved the food. Can’t wait to go back soon!

In the last ten years, I’ve eaten at Monticchio every time I’ve visited Winnipeg. And in the next ten years, I will aim to do the same. The food is absolutely amazing. I ordered the lemon chicken again, and it’s just as good as I remembered from a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, I can’t quite give this place a five-​star rating, since the service was a bit off — our waiter seemed a bit frazzled, and I had to keep reminding her about the same things over and over, even though she was only serving a few tables. Perhaps this is a Winnipeg thing (since I experienced the same kind of thing at a different Winnipeg restaurant the next day)? I’m not sure, but regardless, the food more than made up for the service, which itself wasn’t too bad, just not as good as I’ve experienced at other places. If you’re ever in Winnipeg (or if you live there), definitely eat here, perhaps daily.

Went here as part of a small group and arrived just before opening, the server had just showed up and whisk us to our table. As usual we ordered up of couple of dishes to share, and some wine that for a restaurant was not a bad price. While we sat there we enjoyed some of the bread knots that were almost to hot to touch.
We both got and enjoyed a wonderful diner and plan to go back again some time in the future

If you love carbs and enjoy comforting Italian meals and big portions then this is the place for you! The complimentary bread knots are served piping hot and are very delicious so don’t fill up on these. My fave has to be their «Monticchio Mussels» which comes in mild, medium or hot for $ 8.50. We ordered the medium level and I have to say it had a good level of heat to it. I don’t normally like mussels in marinara sauces but this one is absolutely addictive and I would easily go back for this appetizer dish. The marinara sauce is probably the same sauce that is used for the marinara pasta dishes — it is so rich, garlicy and full of flavour! So make sure you have some bread knots to sop up all the sauce from the mussels dish. You can also order this as an entrée dish served on linguine for $ 15.99.
The Pasta Sambuca ($ 17.99) is a very popular dish and comes with scallops, mussels & prawns sauteed with roasted red peppers & garlic, finished with a splash of sambucca & cream and served on linguine. Everything sounded great but unfortunately my dish tasted very bland. The seafood was good as it wasn’t overcooked but the dish lacked a lot of flavour. I did enjoy the salad that came before my entrée — instead of the House salad, I opted for the «garden medley salad» which was a nice light salad dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette.
The service was fast, nice and efficient despite the busy weekend crowd. The ambiance was really laid back and enjoyable. Prices are very fair especially with the large portions (most entrees $ 15-​$ 19). I would go back but I would definitely order the pasta dishes with the marinara sauce that I enjoyed so much and would definitely order the Monticchio Mussels dish again. Good place to go with a group as you can’t really go wrong with this type of Italian food.

Excellent place for Italian food! Prices are great, portions are great and the people are great. Owner operated so you know the food will be good! If your in the mood for Italian Monticchio is the place to go!
