Came to this restaurant after reading the good reviews on Unilocal, but left absolutely appalled by how I was treated. Me and my sister came here after a craving for authentic Spanish paella. After ordering their seafood paella, I realized that there was cuttlefish in it. I’m not allergic to shellfish(crab, shrimp, clams, etc.) but I am severely allergic to regular fish so I wasn’t able to eat it. Granted, it was my own fault for not asking beforehand, but when I explained to the manager he proceeded to talk down to me, refusing to accommodate my allergies, and lecturing me on how exactly«real» paella is made. He said, «Well you do not understand what paella is.» I have had paella at various other restaurants where fish was not an ingredient, so his comment was rude and uncalled for. At that point, I felt uncomfortable to ask for another one to be made without the cuttlefish, and settled for the chicken and vegetable paella. Although my sister said the seafood paella was delicious and I did enjoy the chicken and vegetable paella, the manager was unapologetically condescending and ruined the experience for us. We won’t be coming back.

On a recent visit to Barcelona, during our honeymoon, my wife and I spent took time to visit some extended family of mine living in this marvelous city. They invited us to join them for dinner near their homes at a neighborhood staple called Taverna El Glop(Carrer de Sant Lluís, 24, 8012 Barcelona). The restaurant is on a corner and is fairly intimate. You can walk right by it if you’re paying much attention. They had reserved us a table for 14 on the 2nd floor. Getting up there was a little tight, but manageable. The food is exceptional! We had dishes including paella, fried mozzarella, and a delicious gigantic crème brûlée for dessert. The paella had enormous pieces of crab and gigantic shrimp. What a meal! Everything tasted very freshly made. We began dinner at about 9:30pm or so, and finished with dinner after midnight… typical for Barcelona. The staff is exceptional, very homely & inviting. If you’re ever in this part of Barcelona, or just looking for an authentic Spanish meal in this eclectic European city, make sure to visit Taverna El Glop. Your visit will most assuredly leave your taste buds wanting for more.

Absolutely amazing. I took my parents here based on Unilocal reviews and El Glop did not disappoint. The ambiance, staff, and clientele are authentically Catalan, professional, and friendly. I ate steamed mussels and grilled chicken with white beans that were heavenly, though we noticed half of the tables there eating paella. The menu is simple– grilled meats and fish, paellas, tapas and salads. Local wines are inexpensive and portions are generous. I’ll definitely be back for paella.

What’s a trip to Spain without paella? Despite the popularity of this place, we were seated immediately because ‘it’s a game night’ said the waiter as he led us to our table. We ordered: — the house salad(olive/anchovy/cod carpaccio/lettuces) — Catalan sausage with potatoes — traditional rabbit and snail paella The cod in the salad and the green olives were excellent, but the overall effect was diminished by the overabundance of tuna, making the whole thing a bit tuna salad-ish, as well as some mushy black olives. The Catalan sausage was great. I find the spices in this type of sausage reminiscent of breakfast sausages, but my mom loves it. And even through the breakfast sausage haze I ate more of it that she did. Now, ordering the rabbit/snail option instead of the seafood option was a nod to tradition rather than preference. I always prefer seafood. But I figured I can get the kind of seafood that comes in seafood paella(shrimp, mussels, squid) anywhere, whereas rabbit/snail is a more unusual combination. The types of snails they use are the slimy ones found in oc len xao dua(Vietnamese coconut snails), not the big French escargot. Thankfully, these weren’t too slimy, and slipped from their shells easily. The rabbit, too, was well cooked and came freely from its bones. But the best part? The rice. The rice is what my mom and I fought over at the end. It was crunchy on the bottom like the rice in Korean clay pot dishes and a bright red-orange from the spices and the huge pimentos that lay on top of the bowl like wrapping paper.

In Spain for the first time and while staying in the Gracias district, we went hunting for some Paella. We ended up here in this bustling restaurant and are happy we came. The Paella was delicious and the service was excellent. We are learning Spanish and are far from fluent. Our waitress was fluent in English and was very helpful with our choices. The paella and service was good however, this feels like a good down home local restaurant. Nothing too fancy but also nothing too stellar. Would recommend for a decent meal and good service. Spain awaits!

Food(4.5 Stars) — I really wanted to try the Paella before I had to leave Spain. Unfortunately, Paella is priced per person and the minimum is two. This is when eating alone hits hard T_T. I had the assorted meat that came with smoked sausage, chicken, and two different part of beefm which was recommended by the waitress under the meat section. Not the best, but great! Sauvignon blanc of theirs were phenomenal! Service(6 Stars) — Although most of the servers were not good at all nor fluent in English, I did not have too much trouble asking. Plus, they have a menu with English so that is super helpful. I had to charge my phone and I asked. They were more than willing to accomodate my need and was even willing to use the outlet inside the kitchen to have it near me. Thank you! Ambiance(5 Stars) — It is seemingly really small restaurant from the outside and can be seen as creepy. Once I went in, two waiters were standing with one opening the door for me. The restaurant was completely empty! I was thinking, «shhhhiiettt. Is this the low review number Unilocal bait?» Few breathes later, I realized they have a spacious back dining room with open area kitchen. Just awesome to see well organized dining area with view to see how they are cooking. Overall, very impressive dining experience. I believe the food could have been more different if I chose the right menu. I wish I could go back and try their paella! It smelled and looked hella good.(drools)

Amazing! This place was recommended to us by the guys at Vesping. We had a full day of touring and riding and wanted something really good and local. El Glop is in a non touristy part of town. It was fun to stroll through the streets and to see families out at the local playgrounds and not just tons of tourists. We got there before 7– we still eat somewhat early– American time! Anyway we started with the sangria, it was really good! We had ordered the fried artichokes as an appetizer but I guess there was a lack of communication and it never appeared. That was ok, we got so much good food! We asked for bread and they brought us some huge slices of tomato bread; then our waiter drizzled olive oil on them. Good! We ordered 3 dishes to split among the 4 of us– the seafood paella, black rice with clams, and secreta pork– everything was so delicious! One of our favorite meals in Barcelona. We were too full to order dessert.

We stopped in without a reservation around 9pm and were seated immediately. The waiter was very helpful in recommending a bottle of excellent merlot and a provolone starter with pan con tomate. He didn’t just point to the most expensive thing either. So we enjoyed the provolone, bread and wine while waiting for our paella. It was ready no more than 20 mins later and was amazing. The waiter served each of us a plate and nicely arranged the food for us. Between two people there was plenty of food. Having had an appetizer we were unable to finish but not for lack of trying. We stayed and chatted until finishing the bottle of wine and were never pressed to leave. In fact the waiters never approached us and it was quite nice. I also enjoyed the enviroment. It was quite cozy while still having a romantic edge to it. I could see myself returning on my next Barça visit.

Great Little neighbourhood spot. Easy 15 – 20 min downhill walk from Park Guell. Had the Pork Sausage and Arugula Salad as appetizers and finished with Seafood Paella. More than enough food for two people — we left quite full(still enough room for dessert). Food is authentic and tasty. Paella can be hit and miss and this was a bullseye. Wouldn’t think twice about recommending the restaurant to any friends visiting the city.

We originally were going to Cerveceria Catalana but was put off by the long wait and the rushed atmosphere so we came across this place instead. We were not disappointed with the Great flavorful food and hearty portions. The steamed mussels tasted fresh and are a must. The octopus with black rice was pretty good too. The staff was very friendly and service was fast.

Dined here with my girlfriend. Try the black rice paella … amazing experience! And make the waiter try you certain sorts of red wine … you will never had an experience like that before! Amazing place to «feel» Barcelona! We would and will come back here anytime …

A friend and I decided to eat here after seeing the positive Unilocal reviews. Best decision! If you like paella, you must must eat here! We ate paella at several places during our visit and we literally went to heaven here. The paella here was so flavorful, moist and cooked perfectly. Also, try the onions. They were also delicious. As well as the vino from the jug. We went back!

The Paella was amazing, the best I’ve had and it convinced me that Paella was worth eating. The selection of roasted meats were tasty. The asparagus with tartar sauce was a pleasant surprise. The Paella Negro was also surprisingly good.

This place was recommended to us by a local — it’s way out of the touristy area and about 15 min from the nearest subway(there are two nearby) stations. Very hard to find if you don’t know exactly where you go — it’s small(on the outside) and well hidden. Inside, it’s fairly large with several halls and plenty of people. Food was very reasonably priced — under 50 euros for a full dinner(appetizers, main dish, etc) for two with drinks. Service was impeccable as well. Food was very good too. Wouldn’t exactly call it extraordinary, but well worth the trip. Salmon and sausages dishes were up to par. Octopus appetizer was nothing special, but reasonably tasty. Very good sangria — probably one of the best we’ve tried in Barcelona. Overall — recommend as a dinner place. Not extremely romantic as it’s packed with tables pretty close to each other to fit more people and open kitchen making the place pretty noisy.
