El Suquet de l’Almirall

I am not a fan of writing a bad review. But this place did not deliver. We had a recommendation from a friend to go here and we couldn’t have been more disappointed. The tomato bread was great the cava was good. We had decided to have Paella at one place on our trip and this was it. It was very dry and the seafood wasn’t good. It smelled of fishiness. Which may be the least appetizing thing on earth. It was a cute place and the waiter was nice but we will never ever go here again or recommend. Bummer 100 plus euro wasted. We have had amazing food in Barcelona this was the exception. Thumbs down

Despropósito en los precios. Alcachofas, con ceps (3) y chipirones (17.50, ración justisima).Paella barceloneta d. o (28.50)-arroz reseco con dos calamares por barba, una gamba y una cigalita. Vino no bajan de los 20e.

El pasado jueves día 2 de julio me dirigía al puesto trabajo como cada día, durante el trayecto iba escuchando a los poderosos Slayer y no sé si fueron los potentes riffs de Kerry King o el sofocante calor pero me entraron unas ganas tremendas de ir a cenar a la Barceloneta. En concreto al Suquet de L´Almirall. A las 09:20h llamé a mi querida mujer y le expliqué que le parecía una cena en el Suquet. Enseguida dio luz verde a la operación. A las 12h, reservo mesa para la noche.
Previa copa de cava en una terraza de la Barceloneta, la primera que vimos, pues estaba todo lleno. No menciono el bar pues no tiene ningún tipo de interés y tampoco hablaré del cava, pues la verdad, no valía mucho.
A las 20:30, y con puntualidad británica nos presentamos en el mítico Suquet de L´Almirall. La reserva la hice en la terraza aún arriesgo de pasar calor. Una ligera brisa nos mantuvo a salvo.
Restaurante con solera. Con una renovada y fresca decoración. Muy marinera. Le han dado un aire nuevo muy acertado. Techos altos. Mesas de madera, toques azules y blancos. La terraza es pequeña pero muy bien decorada, a pesar de estar en el mismo paseo se está muy cómodo y muy tranquilo, dadas las circunstancias.
Lo primero, como ya es costumbre, una caña para poder observar la carta. La cebada nos proporciona pausa y criterio para una adecuada elección de los platos. Grata sorpresa al ver que la carta es pequeña. Entrantes, pescados del día, arroces varios y una sección de cazuelas y woks.
Finalmente y después de una interesante deliberación, la velada transcurrió por los siguientes derroteros:
Croquetas de pescado, marisco y bechamel. Muy buenas. Pequeñas y sabrosas croquetas. Un plato de ocho. De gran sabor e intensidad. Buen empanado. Primer aplauso.
Navajas del Delta. Fuera de carta. Espectaculares navajas. De diez. Buen sabor y perfecta cocción. Sin atisbo de dudas el mejor plato de la noche por lo que fue merecedor de un aplauso a seis manos.
Estos dos platos los compartimos. Proseguimos.
Mi querida mujer se decantó por un rape a la plancha acompañado de verduras y patatas. Un pieza generosa, poco habitual por estos lares. Primer disgusto de la noche, habían algunos trozos que estaban crudos. Imperdonable. El camarero lo achacó al tamaño de la pieza. Una vulgar a la par que estúpida respuesta, pues un restaurante no puede servir un rape con partes crudas y menos si vale 24 euros. Se hacen trozos más pequeños, otro tipo de corte, o bien se cocina como se debe. Una pena, pues la materia prima era de gran calidad y los trozos bien cocinadis estaban muy buenos. Las verduras excelentes así como las patatas.
Un servidor se decantó por un rodaballo salvaje del Cantábrico. Si era salvaje o no, lo desconozco. Estaba muy bueno, de muy buena calidad de eso no cabe duda. El acompañamiento, al igual que el rape consistía en verduras y patatas. Muy buenas. Para mi gusto se pasaron un poco con la cocción, de no haber sido así hubiese sido de excelente.
Lo bañamos todo con una botella de Matin Codax. Un albariño clásico que no requiere comentario alguno pues es bien conocido y usted sabe avispado lector que es un vino muy bueno.
Dos cafés.
Precio dos personas: 101,60 Euros.
Bien. Buen restaurante. Buena materia prima. Bien situado. Servicio amable y simpático, sin más. Carente de la profesionalidad y atención que un restaurante de ese nivel requiere. Supongo que la decadencia y la desidia del entorno hace mella en todos los estamentos. Carta corta pero muy interesante, tienen platos fuera de carta. Carta de vinos corta y con referencias demasiado habituales y a precios algo elevados. El interior es muy bonito. Precio medio alto. Nosotros volveremos un día a probar sus arroces. En cuanto al problema del rape y su cocción, bueno, es posible que fuese un accidente, un mal día. No lo tendré en cuenta. En cuanto a la puntuación, le he puesto tres estrellas. Pero estaría, entre las tres y las cuatro, estando más cerca de las cuatro.
Felices y satisfechos nos retiramos a casa, bajo la protección del aire acondicionado.
Señoras y señores, vayan al Suquet, les gustará.

I had dinner alone instead of tagging along for my husband’s agency dinner. If I’d had a companion, I would have tried the paella. The minimum serving is two people, though they price it per person here. So, I got the salad with tomato and tuna to start followed by the turbot. The salad was great, but my fish was cold by the time they brought it to me. The server was a bit wet behind the ears and overwhelmed by large parties that came in right after me. He also poured my 18 euro glass of rosé very low, and he did not ask if I needed more when my entrée came or apologize when it was late. He just said, «Bön appetit» and ran, which I felt was unprofessional. This restaurant sadly does little to distinguish itself from the rest of Passeig Joan de Borbo.

One star for the ambiance and 1 star for the bread. i had the mixed paella with chicken and seafood. Dry and minimal seafood. Hubby had Special Paella… only seafood. Average at best.
We expected so much more from a place rated best seafood restaurants in Barcelona

The calamari was great. Service is good too but mixed paella was so salty and dry. I’ve had way better paella in Barcelona. I wouldn’t go back for the food.

catalan paella, different from the typical very yellow saffron variations you usually see. here they have the proper al dente short grain rice like aborio and served with the brown crisp layer. had the mixed paella which included chicken beside the seafood, also had prunes in there. nice depth of flavor in the rice but slow cooked and thus takes a long time. also had the seabass grilled a la plancha which was expertly prepared with juicy meat and super crisp tasty skin, salted. grilled veggies also tasty. dessert ice cream wafer sandwich with chocolate also good.

We never had such a great paella. All the food was excellent and the sangria fantastic! Please, don’t miss this place when you visit Barcelona!

Stopped into this mainly seafood restaurant upon a recommendation by the Lonely Planet. This was one of quite a number of restaurants along the main thoroughfare that is Barceloneta. What sets this place apart from the others is simply that it is not catering to a touristic, Western-​palate, but emphasizes Barceloneta’s love of its seafaring heritage and foods. (No one at this restaurant standing out front hawking its Spanish fast food.) This — along with a number of restaurants aligning this street — is a great people-​watching spot, with a myriad of tourists and locals out-​n-​about enjoying the beauty that is Barcelona! The staff was inviting and friendly. Looking about at the other patrons’ dishes made one’s mouth water. Everything looks fresh and delicious. As my buddy, Jay, said in his review: Indeed, every time a new dish came out of the kitchen, you couldn’t help but wish that you had ordered that dish, as well. (Naturally, if that were the case, you’d have to be rolled out of there!!) To be honest, I’m finishing this review so long after-​the-​fact that I don’t remember what I ordered; suffice to say that it was a delight, without doubt. It’s on the pricey side for the casual stroller; however, it’s well worth the extra bucks to savor this authentic delicacies that are prepared daily at this wonderful little bistro/​alfresco café! :D

A bit pricey, but the food was really good. A perfect place to sit outside, get a bite to eat, have a few beverages, and watch all the cruise tourist go by, what a sight. The staff were very friendly, and all the food that was served looked delicious. The kind of place where every time a plate of food comes out for another table, you wish you ordered it instead. The baked lobster looked fantastic, the black paella looked great, everything looked great. I had their burger, which was really good too. Just wanted something lighter than most of the seafood dishes they have on the menu. Stop in, you won’t be disappointed.

Originally went here looking for paella, but my friend and I was tempted by the «Sailor’s menu» which had 8 items on it for 42 euros/​person. We also split a petite bottle of chilled white wine. So fresh and sooo utterly delicious. Perfect meal for our last day in Barcelona. I still want to try their paella though… one day…

Dieses kleine spanische Fischrestaurant liegt eigentlich in einer ausgesprochenen Touriecke, wir waren zum Mittagessen (Tip von einer spanischen Freundin) und begeistert!

es geht in dieser Ecke auch ohne Friteuse!
Es saßen auch fast nur Spanier mit uns in diesem Lokal!!!

Día de sol primaveral, vas caminando hacia la playa regodeándote con las vistas y la paz característica de los domingos. Pero algo falta, el estómago empieza a hacer ruidos extraños. Llegó la hora de comer. Para estos fines el Suquet es una excelente opción. A tan solo 200 metros de la playa y con una terraza para disfrutar del sol, se presenta como una buena opción.
Su fuerte son los pescados y demás productos del mar. Es un lugar al que acuden personajes de la vida pública como alcaldes y actores. A pesar su tradicional aspecto de restaurante de pescadores.
La carta es bastante variada y sus precios un tanto altos. Qué tanto? Una tarde comí un entrante de gambas y un pescado y me pagué 50 €. Típico lugar que, si se tiene el dinero, vale la pena.
