A modest hotel with an excellent location — just shed your American hotel sensibilities. Rick Steves has done it again. My girlfriend and I booked Hotel Jardi from his guidebook after he cited the excellent location and reasonable prices. Hotel Jardi met my expectations. The main selling point is the location — situated right in the middle of the action in the Gothic Quarter within walking distance of Las Ramblas and other tourist locations as well as some of the best tapas restaurants. The rooms are very modest(re: small), but with excellent surprisingly spacious bathrooms. If you’re worried about noise book a room on the inside. For everyone else, pay the extra for a balcony view of the beautiful square. The hotel does have an elevator but it only starts on the 2nd floor due to the first floor being a historic landmark. The breakfast is included and has your European basics, if you arrive before check-in feel free to drop off your luggage, and if you’re heading out no need to worry about your key, as you have to drop it off on the front desk. Overall, I loved Hotel Jardi just based on the location alone. Add in good customer service and decent rooms, you’re in for a good time in Barcelona. If American-ized amenities are a must for you, then Hotel Jardi isn’t for you. But if you value location above all and love the charm of a small family run hotel, you;ll have a great time.

This place is clean. The staff is friendly. Close to everything. Noise from outside. Shower door was broke leaving a water mess on the floor after each use. Breakfast is good and in a pleasant dining area.
