Something special. Cute little tapas joint with great ambience, super friendly staff and amazing food and wine. What more can you ask for? Surprisingly only been open for four months. Not your standard tapas bar, the food is a gastronomic delight. You can taste the freshness of the produce and the love put into creating the beautifully presented dishes. Every we had was amazing. My top 3 would be the blue fin tuna sashimi, the ‘Black & White’ burger and the tempura calamari. Front of house staff are friendly in a genuine way. If you don’t know the local tongue, fear not, these fellas have good English and they are very knowledgeable of their menu — both food and wine — and will happily go through it with you. There’s limited seating and they don’t take bookings so be prepared to wait, trust me, it’s worth it. Would come again for sure. Maybe tomorrow?

Nos recomendaron este local de tapas y platillos. Mejorable… probamos bravas, pulpo, calamares, vermut de la casa y berenjenas con vinagreta de miel

Where do I begin? Their amazing food? Their quaint and cozy set up? Or the wonderful staff? A true gem where locals gather for a wonderful gastronomy experience and the tourists walk out devastated with the thought of not being able to take La Cholita with them home. Steps away from the Virrei Amat(L5) metro station, getting to La Cholita is a piece of cake. Patrons receive a warm welcome from the owners and if there is space, grab a seat at a table. But be prepared to wait for up to an hour for a table. The space is not that large, maybe 8 – 9 tables and they don’t take reservations. Since the lovely people of Barcelona are mostly late eaters, you stand a better chance of snagging a table early in the evening than after 9 pm. But if you have to wait, do so! The experience is oh so worth it! The personal attention that you get from the owners is so pleasant. They take the time to explain the menu as well as serving the dishes. Extremely cheerful and well mannered, these guys have gotten this down to the science! The food is so divine, it is unbelievable. I have been trying to decide whether the broken egg with foie gras was my favorite or the pork with shredded cheese? How about the black and white mini-burger? Or the apple cake for dessert? All the flavors and the presentation of the dishes are mesmerizing. Do not leave Barcelona without dining at La Cholita. And if you have sadly left without tantalizing your taste buds, I suggest getting on a plane to Barca immediately!!!
