I could get past the 80’s luxe design that reminds me of formerly fancy hotels in post-Soviet countries — I mean, it’s a great location and a decent price and the night clerk when we arrived rather late was quite nice and helpful. But… the staff made some big mistakes that, in a tourist city with so very many options to choose from, mean I won’t come back here. No second chances, Lleo. Sleep deprivation on top of jet lag made my first few days really crummy. We booked a non-smoking room and got a smoking one. My attempts to sleep & re-set my internal clock the first day were repeatedly interrupted by staff who apparently don’t understand their own«do not disturb» system. The A/C didn’t work so we had to leave the windows open to construction noise and mosquitoes. It was a kind of teal & pink & faux oak hell. The topper was when we asked for a taxi at check-out to go get our Hertz rental car(we were leaving Barcelona). When I showed the print-out to the clerk, he fixated on the fact that Hertz is located in another hotel and decided we were abandoning the great lion to stay at another hotel. He huffed like a teenage girl and made sweeping gestures with his hands, like he was sweeping out the trash. I was thankful it wasn’t my first trip to Barcelona, or it would have been a disappointing first impression.
