Mosquito

Ya estás en Barcelona y no sabes dónde comer o cenar, pues ya tienes donde. Eso sí no reservan pero si está lleno te ponen en su lista de espera en una pizarra. Y la verdad tardan poco en llamarte, al menos a nosotros la espera se nos hizo corta.
Compartimos mesa con otra pareja con su pequeño de 2 – 3 años, pero tenían pocas ganas de hablar y aún sabiendo que minutos antes hablamos con ellos en castellano, no dejaron de hablar en catalán, así que nosotros a lo nuestro.
Pedimos quizás un poco demás, pero estaba todo tan bueno que no nos arrepentimos. Solo tenéis que ver las fotos que he subido.
Las sopas con noddles hechos allí están muy bien. Las costillas muy sabrosas.
No dejes de pasar por Mosquito que ye encantara.

Me moría de ganas de probar este restaurante pero cada vez que iba estaba super lleno y se tenía que esperar entre 45 minutos y 1 hora. Esta vez la espera solo fue de media hora así que por fin decidí probarlo!
El local es pequeño, las mesas estan apiñadas una encima de otra y la parte de atrás es bastante oscura pero aún así lo pasas por alto esperando que la comida esté a la altura.
Los dumplings están buenísimos, los de ternera y los de langostinos estaban muy pero que muy buenos, pero en general todos estaban muy ricos! El pato también es un must del lugar! Con dos platos (o 2’5) por persona te quedas perfecto!
Lo único malo fue el trato de una de las camareras que parecíà la responsable del lugar. Entiendo que el lugar tenga mucho éxito pero no hace falta tratar con tanto desdén a los clientes.
Si algún día baja el tiempo de espera y hay menos humos seguro que vuelvo.

Igual ha perdido su encanto.
Igual está demasiado masificado.
Igual han perdido la ilusión por lo que hacen.
Igual es otro sitio más para guiris que nunca volverán.
No es aconsejable y hace muchas borderías y mal trato que dejó de ser aceptable.
O abren nuevo local, o caen en picado.

I was shocked at how delicious the food was here — The noodles and dumplings are definitely handmade, and the broths are made in-​house, which is the foundation of the experience. Expect to wait in line if you show up without a reservation during peak lunch.
Don’t feel bad about eating Chinese food in Spain, this is a Tapas experience and great food.

Un restaurante pequeño donde la comida es exquisita y se nota la calidad! El ambiente siempre es agradable! Suele estar bastante lleno! No podría ser de otra manera

The place was a bit overrated, hypsterish vibe with asians cooking, great selection of beers but not much choise for non-​beer drinkers… we also arrived at about 18:50 and were told the kitchen wasnt open yet (too used to London times…) it quickly became packed with tourists and locals.
we over ordered (as usual), the pork dumplings were quite nice, the shrimp ones however, were mediocre at best, no real shrimp inside but some kind of a shrimp paste. The kimchi was very disappointing, overly salted and spicy with no real flavour or fermented zestiness.
the fried duck (#2) was very nice, a bit on the dry side but thats okay, we also ordered Sichuan pepper beef which quite honestly was average at best.
Not sure how the asian food scene is in BCN but quite frankly this didnt impress.

Mosquito is simply great. Great food, great vibe. Warm and inviting. A gem in Barcelona. The phở (city) was delicious.

Don’t be fooled by the hours. They don’t serve food until 8. I’ve been dying to try this place but it’s either not serving food or too packed. Someday…

Hidden gem! I was only wanting tapas and Spanish food, but I met a tourist that said if I wanted to change it up, try Mosquito. Omg sooo cute! Hipster vibe! The phở was AMAZING!!! So cheap and so much food! I wished I had found it earlier. The service was super nice too! Omg I want phở now!

Very solid Asian tapas place. All of the dumplings are amazing and the duck #2 is a must order. Classics such as edamame as well. The pork belly was very good but quite rich, a bit too much so for 2 peoples to split. The bang bang chicken sounded weird as it was cold, but glad we ordered it because it was only of my favorites. There was a 30 minute wait when we got there but it turned out to move very quickly and ended up being more like 10 minutes.
Cool assortment of Catalan craft beers, my favorite was the Sitges wheat.

El local es pequeño (tiene dos salas), muy informal tirando a cutrecillo, hay algunas mesas compartidas y es bastante oscurete (sobretodo las mesas del segundo comedor), ¡pero no veas cómo se come! Además me dejaron entrar con mi perrito (nos sentaron en una esquina y fueron muy amables de llenarle de agua su cacito para beber). Muy maja la chica que nos atendió, explicándonos pacientemente todo lo que le fuimos preguntando.
Pedimos:
· el pato frito, que estaba buenísimo
· Una sopa phở (con el picante aparte). Nos gustó mucho también
· Edamames (¡qué vicio!)
· Dim Sum. Tienen de bastantes variantes y todos están hechos a mano (algunos a la plancha y otros al vapor). Nosotros nos pedimos los de cerdo (los que más nos gustaron), los de ternera y los de langostino (que quede claro que todos los encontramos buenos).
Pedimos un agua y una cerveza «Caracol» (¡tienen una extensa carta de birras!) y todo nos salió por unos 17 € por persona. Lo encontramos muy bien para todo lo que pedimos (en realidad nos sobró algo de comida, y nos dijeron que si queríamos nos la podíamos llevar).
Si te apetecen unas tapas asiáticas de calidad, a buen precio y en un ambiente auténtico en el Born, no te lo pienses ;)

Me encanta el mosquito! Si estoy por el born y quiero comer algo rico y a buen precio este sitio es mi primera opción! Eso si… como siempre está a reventar de gente igual toca esperar un ratín… Pero merece mucho la pena! No tiene una carta nada extensa, pero todo lo que tiene es una pasada de rico!

This place is unbelievable. It seems to always have a queue, but just put your name on the list and grab a drink somewhere else while you wait; it’s worth it!
Mosquito has an incredible assortment of things on the menu– but not overwhelmingly so! It’s is one of those places where you mark down the things you want to order. Also, they have Catalan, Chinese, and English menus which were great for our mixed group. The artisanal beers are also really excellent.
The roast duck (number 2) was some of the best duck I’ve ever had. In fact, the only ducks I could compare it to are the street food ducks I’ve had in Vietnam– so basically, incredible tender and spot on flavours. The steamed belly pork was incredibly fatty, but in the best possible way. Our table had vegetable, pork, and beef dim sum– and I think the pork and vegetable were particularly tasty. It should be noted that they have fried, boiled, and steamed dim sum, as well as more bun-​type dim sum! The cucumber ajat was also so pleasantly refreshing! Overall, a few things had slightly overly salted sauces– but I’m definitely nitpicking here. The whole experience was amazing and I can’t wait to return.
8 dishes and 3 beers came to 45 euros. Go with 1 – 3 others and share everything– you won’t regret it!

We had lunch here the other day and really enjoyed it. My favorite was the veggie gau (like a goyoza but better). The cucumber dish and the rice noodles were also good, as were the veggie dumplings. My husband got a pork bun, pork dumplings, and a soup and enjoyed them as well. We ordered way too much food and couldn’t finish it but it was very good and we both would like to go back.

Gran propuesta de comida asiática en el Born que tiene todo lo mejor de los menús de Dim Sum y snacks chinos tradicionales, a precios muy asequibles y con una buena presentación. Si no fuera porque siempre esta muy muy muy lleno, sería uno de mis restaurantes más visitados para esos días de antojos de comida china.

Asian tapas or dim sum, whatever you wanna call it, it was pretty good! I was very pleased with the quality of the food. The duck was crispy and delicious and the dumplings were exceptional. The sichuan beef was a little bland, but thankfully they had some sriracha to help solve that.
The staff was very helpful, accommodating us on a busy night and in general being very available.
They had the best selection of Catalunyan craft beer of any of the places I visited in Barcelona, which was something I could really appreciate being a beer lover. I only wish they had them on tap rather than the German/​Belgian selection that had.

IT’S REALLY GOOD!
It gets crowded fast. Get there as close to opening as possible, or you will have to wait. It’s a small place, so it’s probably not good to with a group of more than 5 people. It’s also a good idea to come here hungry, because you will want to try everything.
I went with two other people. We went hungry. We shared the crispy duck (ordered a second plate because it was so damn good), pork belly, chicken bang bang, and City Phở (the beef broth is so complex in flavor it’s like a meal in one spoonful), and both types of dumplings. It was all delicious. Seriously, all of it.
Plus the food, the three of us had one drink each (they have craft beer) and we were completely stuffed — for 50 euro. Highly recommended.

Pedimos cinco tapas y todas estaban excelentes además tienen muchísima variedad de cervezas que van muy bien con la comida! Se equivocaron y nos trajeron algo que no habíamos ordenado pero fueron muy amables y nos han dicho que lo dejan como cortesía de la casa!

He oído hablar mucho de Mosquito y tenía muchas ganas de probarlo. Cuando llegué me quedé asombrada con el local. Para nada esperaba que fuera así, me pareció muy diferente a todos los locales de comida japonesa a los que he ido. Así, que en un primer momento, pensé que no iba a resultar tan bueno como pensaba. Y me equivocaba! Todo, absolutamente todo lo que probé me encantó. Y a un precio más que razonable.
Recomiendo el bambú, el pato y, sobretodo, los edamame!

Pretty good dim sum, especially compared to what I typically have available in Miami. Cheaper too.

Uno vuelve una y otra vez a Mosquito… En el caso de que su concepto te guste, ya no depende de tí, volveras a repetir.
Funcionan y de maravilla por motivos bastante siemples:
1.- Su prioridad está en las recetas de siempre. Si la receta ha funcionado por cientos de años no hay motivos obvios para cambiar las cosas. Estoy convencido que una abuelita asiática se sentiría orgullosa de lo que este equipo nos ofrece.
2.- Su enfoque en la cocina asiática tradicional no los obliga a estar gastando dinero en cosas innovadoras, decoración, ni nada. Sin esos costes te sirven comida que está muy muy buena y quizás lo único que te gusta más que su comida es el alivio que sientes cuando te llega la cuenta. En mis fotos podrán ver que los precios… si el precio te importa más que la variedad temo que estarás comiendo aquí todos los días.
3.- Cuando uno mira la carta (papelito dónde uno hace el pedido) uno se da cuenta que todos los platos siguen una misma lógica en cocina. Sea lo que sea que pidas, en pocos minutos estará en frente tuyo listo para ser devorado.
4.- Tienen un buen rollo que está en peligro de extinción. Así como Parque Jurásico habla sobre los ya extintos dinosaurios, La gente de Mosquito seguro sería parte de la película sobre los ya extintos camareros enfocados en la experiencia de comer fuera. Sin duda ellos no piensan que están haciéndonos un favor sirviéndonos un plato de comida. Su trato refleja justamente lo contrario.
Cuanto corto, vayan. Ni digo que no se arrepentirán, garantizo que será una más que linda experiencia.

Personally, I think this place is overrated. I don’t know why I didn’t get it before, but asian tapas? Come on. That’s just dim sum. DUHH.
So, of course, you’ll find your typical dumplings here. But! The skin is homemade! So, pretty authentic — if you stick to the regular dumplings. I however, saw their hao gao (shrimp dumplings, dim sum style) which I am compulsively obsessed with, so I ordered that as well. What I received were these gigantic dumplings, with skin that was 4x as thick as it should be, and shrimp minced into a paste (the smaller types of shrimp). Thattttt is not how hao gao should be — the skin should be very thin, and the shrimp should be big and cut up into pieces. The rest of the food was also mediocre — the duck was only moderately tender, the bamboo shoots overly salty. Again the normal dumplings seem to have been the highlight of the night.
Also, this place is tinyyy! But, at least it’s open consistently, so you don’t have to wait until 8pm. Come earlier, and you should be able to find a table. Otherwise, you should call for a reservation.
So my final two cents? Asians, you’ll have tasted better. Go home — your badass mother will probably scold you for even thinking about coming here and whip you up her secret dumpling recipe that tastes oh so good. Everyone else? It’s not a bad place to try, especially with the authentic dumpling skin — especially when you don’t have an asian mama to make you that!

This place seems popular among the locals and tourists. The restaurant is very small. Expect to sit close to strangers. They take reservations for large groups. Or you can sit at the bar.
There is an English menu that has a variety of dim sums, dumplings, and some Asian entrees.
Smoked duck dumpling is very good and flavorful.
Xia long Bao wasn’t soupy at all. Defeats it’s purpose.
Pork Shu Mai is very good.
Kimchi is small but good.
Wonton soup is small but good.
Overall, I am surprised at how fresh everything tastes here. The only con for me is that every dumpling tasted too salty for me after I kept eating.

I have been here two times for dinner and one time to get some beers. It is as good as it gets. The dumplings are delicious and I recommend to get also the duck. Prices are on the spot and the craft beer selection is also really good. A little hustle is that it gets really really crowded so expect to have a line. Decoration is also really nice and service is gentle and it looks they are having fun with what they are doing, a rara avis in Spain table service. I got to know them because this summer I attended to a craft beer festival in Poble Nou and they were in charge of one of the food trucks, the red ant. It seems that its their brand for food to go, that is close to the main restaurant. I am a fan of Mosquito, and at least you have to try it!

He estado en este lugar más de 4 veces, y les cuento que cada vez que voy al Mosquito siempre, siempre salgo sumamente contenta y FELIZ. Creo que es una de las mejores cosas que le ha pasado a esta ciudad.
Siempre está lleno, y eso es porque su público es muy leal. Las mesas no son para más de 6 personas y es un poco íntimo (pequeño y cercano).
La comida: Deliciosa. Tienen una buena variedad de Dim Sum (todos hechos a mano y ahí mismo) al vapor, y una serie de tapas exquisitas. Mis recomendaciones: el pato frito, las ‘shortribs’ fritas y los dumplings. El pollo al curry también está buenísimo. Y mi plato favorito: Phó City. Es un caldo sumamente reconfortante con ternera, cilantro y verduras. Está perfecto para un día que te sientas de resaca o que te haga falta el caldo de toda la vida que hace tu madre.
Ah, y tienen una amplia selección de cervezas artesanas que van MUY bien con todos sus platos. No tiene absolutamente nada de pérdidas este lugar, salvo a que siempre está lleno y seguro que tendrás que hacer cola para entrar.

Todo un descubrimiento esta mezcla de restaurante japonés-​coreano con muchísimas cervezas artesanas catalanas y belgas para beber y un precio bastante asequible. Hay que volver y pronto. Imposible reservar y hay pocas mesas, por lo que lo normal es que haya colas o tengas que esperar, pero merece la pena porque está todo delicioso.

we went to try their Dim sum and we got a nice surprise very taste it and fresh ones. We tried prawn and vegetables V. Food is condiment with nice species. The selection for beers are amazing! Nice place to have dinner or lunch. I will repeat because they have food that I want to taste it.
Be aware, make a reservation or just arrive early if not you will be in the queue and sometimes could be long one.

Se definen como un restaurant de tapas Asiáticas.
Si vas por la noche, seguramente tendrás que esperar ya que no hacen reservas. La espera no es larga ya que es un sitio que no se presta para sobremesas.
Es pequeño, ruidoso, y no se detiene. Gente que va y viene; en la pequeña cocina los cocineros que trabajan con una rapidez y agilidad bábara. Definitivamente la barra es una opción ideal si quieres ver el ajetreo del lugar.
Pedimos únicamente dumplings y eran bastante buenos, platos de buen tamaño y el precio excelente. La carta de cervezas es muy extensa así que tienes muchas opciones a elegir.
La considero un buen plan cuando no tienes plan.

Llegamos pasadas las 15.30 con bastante hambre. Tuvimos la suerte, supongo que por la hora, de encontrar una mesa. A pesar de que estábamos muy pegados a la mesa de al lado, no resultó molesto, no sé si por el ambiente o qué.
Era la primera vez que íbamos y al principio nos sentimos algo abandonados: no sabíamos cómo funcionaba y nadie se preocupó por si nos enterábamos o no. Al final salimos del paso, pedimos 6 tapas para compartir y un postre, acompañados de cerveza de maíz.
¡Las tapas estaban increíbles! Un sabor buenísimo y se notaba que los productos eran de calidad. Se les olvidó una de las tapas, pero la trajeron en cuanto la reclamamos y la verdad es que estábamos disfrutando tanto de la comida que nos dió absolutamente igual.
Al final comimos, quedando bien satisfechos, por 15 € cada uno. 100% recomendable. Volveremos y además probaremos el Red Ant, que también es suyo.

Mosquito ha sido mi caso particular de restaurante que se te resiste. Lo tienes en mente de hace tiempo pero por una cosa o la otra al final nunca vas.
Hasta que llegó el gran día. Se trata de un sitio de tapas asiáticas, y a mi me lo vendieron como «los mejores dumplings de Barcelona». La verdad es que son muy buenos, aunque no sé si los mejores de la ciudad.
El local es pequeñito, más bien oscuro, decorado con gracia en el que es probable que tengas que compartir mesa. No apto para sobremesas extensas.
3 puntos más a tener en cuenta:
— La carta de cervezas es extensa.
— Lo más seguro es que tengas que esperar. Al llegar te apuntan en una pizarra (no reservan).
— El precio es muy bueno.
Creo que la gracia de Mosquito está en haber encontrado el equilibro justo entre una carta corta y especializada, comida buena, local exótico y una muy buena relación calidad-​precio.

Asian tapas, kind of dimsum style. It’s a unique concept and it works pretty well. That said, it’s suuuuuuper hard to get a table, so I’d recommend getting there at 7pm (that’s when the kitchen opens at night).
Food is a bit greasy, but definitely satisfying. As always, we ordered too much, but it means that I can tell you with confidence that my top choices were the dumplings, lemon chicken, and pork belly. Oh, and the Punk IPA is a great wash down.
Pro Tip: If you can’t get a table here, try heading down the street to Mosquito’s sister restaurant, Red Ant.

What is everyone talking about?!? the food at mosquito is inedible!
Grossest ‘Peking duck’ (Anec fregit) I’ve ever had the displeasure of tasting. Whatever sauce that was, it was unlike any other Peking duck with hoisin sauce I’ve ever had, in a bad way. We couldn’t eat it. I tried, I was starving.
Vegetable dumplings?!? That’s just shredded cabbage in there with a bit of scallions. Super boring, husband couldn’t eat it, I ate it as the saddest second most edible item. Usually vegetable dumplings have mushrooms, bamboo shoots, tofu, scallions etc. Not here.
I’ll spare you the rest of the gory details and close with saying we also tried the pork dumplings — I’d give those a 3 as the best thing we could stand putting in our mouths. Avoid this place like the plague! If you must go, I suggest ordering what we call Miami style — try 1 – 2 dishes max before investing in a full meal.

As a native San Franciscan, I’d like to think I know more about dim sum than the average Barca tourist — my benchmark being hole-​in-​the-​wall dim sum joints in Chinatown. Then again, I like to think alot of stuff, so just humor me on this one :)
Mosquito is an AMAZING find in Barca.
The menu is in Catalan and Chinese so even if you’re well versed in dumplings, you may need a bit of translation help like I did. The servers were all lovely and on point. I waited 30 minutes to be seated which wasn’t bad considering the popularity of this place.
On the dumpling menu I had the xiao long bao (soup dumplings), pork dumplings and pork and shrimp siu mai. I also had the grilled aubergine (eggplant) with peanut sauce. It was yummy and the perfect palette cleanser. I even finished off one of their bottles of Sriracha because well… it’s pretty much a fact that Sriracha makes everything better.
The total came to: 3 dumplings, 1 side of aubergine and 1 beer = 20 euro. Not bad!

Restaurante con tapas chinas y vietnamitas, además de una gran variedad de cervezas. Os recomiendo pedir el Bam Bam de pollastre y la panceta al vapor. De tofos modos todas las tapas están muy buenas y con unas 3 tapas por perdonas vas muy bien sevido.
En definitiva, un buen sitio donde ir a comer o cenar.

La comida está excepcionalmente buena y los precios están bien.
Había oído hablar mucho de este sitio y estaba deseando probarlo. Llegamos un viernes a eso de las 14.30h pensando que no habría mesa pero tuvimos suerte.
La panceta al vapor es increíble, entran ganas de pedir un par de toneladas para llevar a casa. Y el phở de caldo intenso es espectacular. Las otras cosas que probamos tampoco se quedaban atrás, las empanadillas eran muy ricas y la berenjena al vapor también. Pedimos otra sopa que estaba buena pero al lado del phở quedaba un poco demasiado suave. Hasta el mochi (no soy muy fan) estaba muy rico.
La selección de cervezas para acompañar también está muy bien.
Pagamos unos 30 € (2 personas) y salimos muy satisfechos.

Dark and bustling inside This place really ain’t what you expect when you head in off the sunny Barcelona street outside. This place has a great atmosphere that makes you feel you could be miles away from Europe.
The place is always mobbed and with good reason. The food is amazing.
We had deep fried and boiled dumplings and both tasted spectacular. One beef and one veggie, I can’t fault either of them.
We also shared a huge bowl of spicy beef soup. (I forget the exact name) It was again lovely, total taste sensation and a welcome change from all the tapas we had eaten to that point.
The array of bottled beer on offer is huge, with brands from across the world. Something there for everyone.
Final thought/​hint. Menu is only in Spanish and Chinese. We asked one of the waitresses for a bit of help though and she kindly ran through the whole thing separating the beef from the pork and the soup from the dumplings.
Great food, friendly staff and cool beers.
Plus the best dumplings I have ever tasted.

Como un mosquito. Pequeño y ágil.
Así es este local.
Comida asiática sencilla pero notable y una larga variedad de cervezas del mundo. En forma de tapas o raciones pequeñas handmade: dumplings, pato de Beijing, arroz glutinoso con pollo, fideos wonton, edamame, etc. en una no muy larga pero cuidada carta.
En ella no aparecen ni sushi, ni fideos yakisoba, que muchas veces son el recurso típico de los que vamos a comer a restaurantes asiáticos o japoneses. Lo bueno de esto es que su absencia en la carta hace que nos lanzemos a probar y descubrir otras caras de la comida oriental.
Después de la elección viene el sabor, y ahí es cuando el Mosquito logra captivar. Sabores tranquilos y muy agradables al paladar.
Finalmente, el precio* nos convence de que es un restaurante para volver, eso sí, después de retar a nuestra paciencia sabiendo esperar un largo rato en lista de espera.
Le hubiera puesto 5 estrellas si…
— La carta de postres fuera un poco más extensa.
— Esperar 1 hora para comer cuando nos dijeron 30 minutos siempre desespera un poco.
— Habían platos que no tenían (varios) y nos lo anunciaron una vez reclamamos que no nos los habían traído.
* 46 € = 4 personas, 9 platos + bebidas, sin postres (porque los tenían todos terminados).

Con la fuerza y autoridad que me da ser un señor de la Elite. Yo os ordeno que vayáis al Mosquito SI O SI.
No hay mucho mas que añadir a lo que comenta la gente, calidad, precio, cocina oriental y cerveza buena.
Así, con dos cojones. Todo está bueno menos el Pollo al Limón que a la cocinera se ve que no se le deben dar bien los cítricos.
Una cosa, normalmente tiene cola siempre, así que paciencia. Y el menu del mediodía es bastante diferente al de la noche.
Así que no se que cojones hacéis leyendome y no estáis yendo para ahí!

Si un restaurante asiático y una cervecería artesanal tuvieran un hijo, probablemente sería como El Mosquito. Aquí puedes comer tapas orientales y/​o elegir una cerveza artesanal de muy amplia carta que incluye lagers, ale, oscuras y fuertes locales y de varios países europeos. Si puedes ir con alguien que ya conozca el lugar, mejor… porque muchos de los platos tienen los nombres en chino sin ninguna explicación y si el lugar está petado (como suele estar casi siempre) a las camareras no le hará mucha gracia responder tus preguntas. Recuerda que son tapas, no platos así que lo mejor es en grupo y pedir varias cosas para picar y probar.
Bien de precio, aunque las cervezas suelen pasar de los 3 euros todas… eso sí, valen la pena. Y por último, no dejes de pedir los Edamame! son vainas de soja enteras hervidas en agua con sal… son más adictivas que las pipas!
