Pez Vela

Pagas la vista. Comida y servicio muy regular.
El grupo Tragaluz ha trabajado muy bien para llenar casi siempre el Pez Vela. Pero he ido a comer allí 3 veces (tanto en temporada alta como en temporada baja), y siempre he salido con la misma impresión: el típico sitio «pseudo-​cool» donde pagas (caro) la vista, pero nada mas.
El sitio es bonito, es verdad.
La vista (si tienes una mesa con vista!) es muy chula, es verdad.
Pero la comida tiene poco sabor y poca creatividad, parece un catering. Los primeros de marisco son caros, para porciones pequeñas de producto congelado. Las paellas me han dejado totalmente indiferente. Hay mil veces mejores en Barceloneta. El pescado fresco no tiene nada de fresco. Y los postres están allí para aumentar el importe de la cuenta, no el placer gustativo.
El servicio es «joven sin experiencia». No es malo, pero ningún calor o atención. Se los ve mucho mas preocupados por la rotación, y por sonreír (de forma un poco forzada) de vez en cuando para justificar la propina a los guiris.
Ultimo detalle, el precio no es barato. La ultima vez nos salió unos 65 € por persona. Toma ya !
En resumen, no lo recomiendo. Entiendo que le pueda gustar a un guiri que nunca ha comido una paella frente al mar, pero hay mil opciones mucho mejores en la zona.

Heard about this paella from a co worker, who is from Spain, said this place is pretty legit. Normally paella is not something locals eat when they go out, it’s kind of a lets get rid of leftovers meal. Anyways, it was definitely large enough for two people with an appetizer! Was a little. It on the salty side, and wasn’t the best paella I’ve had, even if that’s authentic according to my friend.
Great views and atmosphere!
Just a little far from public transportation, but the walk back is a great way to burn calories!

Me recomendaron este sitio para comer arroz y la verdad es que nos encantó casi todo. El arroz de butifarra todo un acierto.
Pedimos unos platos para compartir y estan muy buenas como las almejas con tomate y albahaca, merece la pena ir.
El servicio muy bueno, nos recomendaron un vino que estaba muy bien de precio y muy rico. Los tiempos entre platos muy bien calculados.
Pero no puedo ponerle mas de un 3 porque en la mesa de al lado habia unos señores muy mal educados con dos perros, que aunque de pequeño tamaño, no pararon de ladrar y no nos dejaban hablar. Se lo dijimos educadamente pero creo que esa es función del responsable del establecimiento que no dijo nada, asi que lo que pudo ser una comida perfecta se transformo en un coñazo. Como cliente espero que los camareros o encargados sean los que llamen la atención y no me pongan a mi en una sitiación tan momesta.

Pez Vela es un restaurante situado a pies del Hotel W. El lugar es muy acogedor y tiene terraza.
Creo que lo mejor de este restaurante son las paellas. Las 2 veces que fuí, a parte de comer ensalada de pulpo que esta buenisima, comí paella de carne y otra de verduras (ya que eramos unos 8).
La de carne principalmente es deliciosa, la recomiendo! La iluminación es tenue y da un toque muy especial a tu noche! Los vinos tambien son fantásticos!

Over priced, short staff, great view, food = ok, could have gotten better and cheaper off the beach and without that fantastic view. REMEMBER: if there is no price or «market value» ASK! € 46.00 for a small dorado that was not dorado, I know I fish dorado

Si te apetece comer un buen arroz al lado del mar. Éste es uno de los mejores sitios. Eso sí, pica un poco.
He ido varias veces y he podido probar varias variedades de arroces. Todos están buenísimos, pero me quedo con el de verduras.
El personal es muy atento y siempre hemos estado muy a gusto. El último día nos sentamos cerca de la cocina y quedamos impresionados con la velocidad del cheff con las paellas. Todo un crack!

Cuando leo «Grupo Tragaluz» inevitablemente pienso que estoy delante de un restaurante de calidad medio/​alta y relación calidad-​precio más bien disparada.
En el Pez Vela es totalmente así pero me fuí con buena sensación.
Para empezar, la ubicación es inmejorable (y el día veraniego acompañaba) y la decoración es bonita.
Después, lo importante: la comida. La carta es principalmente marinera pero hay otros platos como ensaladas y alguna carne. Lo que más destacan en su carta es la paella ya que está ubicada en la parte central de la carta y la oferta es variada. Arroz negro, arroz caldoso con bogavante, paella marinera, etc.
Teníamos ganas de mar, así que pedimos pulpo a la gallega, calamares a la andaluza y berberechos para picar. De segundo paella marinera. No puedo decir que ninguno de los entrantes estuviera mal pero tampoco me sorprendieron. Nada a destacar ni para bien ni para mal. Sabores esperados, texturas aceptables y presentación notable. Cuando llegó la paella obviamente pensé que iba a tener las mismas características que los entrantes pero mi sorpresa fue que estaba bastante rica. Arroz al punto, jugosa pero con esas partes «quemadas» que tanto me gustan, bastante abundante en animales marinos (lo que vendrían a ser la sepia, almejas y gambas). Con lo que me cuesta encontrar una buena paella sin arruinarme! Pues sí señor, aquí hay una paella decente (no excelente) a 22 € la ración (algo caro en mi opinión).
La carta de vinos es correcta. Vinos de gama media y oferta de vinos de bodegas catalanas y del resto de España.
Los postres no lograron sorprenderme tampoco. Sorbete de limon (tenía mucha leche, tipo helado) y pastel de chocolate de esos densos y sabrosos.
A pesar de no ser excelente volvería. Sobre todo por esa combinación entre las vistas y ambiente y una oferta gastronómica más que decente.
También es un lugar apropiado para llevar a gente de fuera y «lucir» de ciudad sobretodo en verano.
Precio por persona aprox.: 45 €

A table became free on the outside of the bar, we decided to move there. We were moved and told that the table was booked. After a while a group of 3 arrived out if nowhere and they were given that table they hadn’t booked. Bad customer treatment. After drinking a bit we might have stayed for more, se won’t. And we are locals…

Came here upon a recommendation of our host.
Great venue, very nice décor and atmosphere, great ocean view though it can get kinda chilly.
Food here is on the expensive side, if you didn’t make reservation, be prepared to sit outside. We ordered the classic shrimp, squid and clam paea, but it is super salty :(its pretty big but with minimal order of 2.
A bit underwhelmed with the food, perhaps this place is more of a tourist trap but great service, if it’s cold, ask for one of their gas heater. Also, this place has free wifi.

Este chiringuito moderno montado a pie de playa es algo digno de comentar, porque creo que me gustó hasta la música chill out que ponían y eso es algo que no suele suceder.
Decorado con cojines y sofás a modo de salón por un lado y mesas más convencionales por otro, el espacio consigue dar la sensación de mayor amplitud que la que tiene. Mucha madera, cemento y cocina vista: muy agradable y, si le sumas el mar, resulta mejor que bien.
Todo estupendo, pero lo que aquí merece la pena de verdad son los arroces, que están buenísimos y tienen un precio más que razonable. Mi favorito: arroz negro, aunque he probado el de butifarra y también lo recomiendo. La carta no es mucho más extensa, pero ni falta que hace.
Investigando un poco descubrí que el restaurante pertenece a un grupo con establecimientos de mucho éxito: el Tomate en Madrid, sin ir más lejos, un restaurante al que aún no he ido, pero que si tiene la misma calidad que éste del que os hablo se convertirá sin duda en favorito. De cualquier modo, la comida que disfruté en el Pez Vela la recuerdo y la comento bastante cuando llega la hora de recomendar a alguien dónde comer arroz en Barcelona: 5 estrellas.

This place came highly recommended. The view is great, the paella must be ordered for two, 22 euro EACH, very chincy amount of seafood, about six TINY shrimp, six TINY CLAMS and few pieces of squid: 44 euro ??? Rice was tasty but cant justify that price for rice. If I ever go back wont order the paella. the spinach salad was ok to good. And bread charge when we didnt even ask for it. Service good.

La mejor paella de Barcelona, sitio muy agradable, totalmente recomendable, tanto en verano como en invierno.

I’ll give the black paella with the most teeny baby squid and artichokes a 4.0 star for taste and good rice texture but the rest was a 2. Crazy prices even for the location, paella was 23 Euro per person for minimum of 2 people. It was cooked over a gas stove and finished in the oven.
A little basket of decent bread was delivered to the table right away.
We sat in front of the kitchen, so when I saw a fried small fish returned to the kitchen (which sounded like a customer complaint as the cook flipped through the fish a few times and muttered something about calamari) and 3 minutes later it was out and onto our table!!! I wanted to complain about being served someone else’s rejected food but though what’s the point, it seemed like somebody ordered something they weren’t sure of. Oh well, they were extremely fresh and simply battered and deep fried.
Some super salty potato bravas.
Some even saltier octopus over potatoes which was barely warm. It was in an earthenware that seemed to be a pre-​repaired and reheated dish. Or else it was another return because it was on our table within a few minutes of ordering.
We placed the remaining octopus and potatoes and fried fish to the edge of the table to make way for the paella. after placing the paella, they removed our ²⁄₃ eaten appetizers, without asking. R was saving a clump of fish.
Then the bill. Not only was there a bread charge of 3.50 Euro on the bill there was also a 1 Euro donation. I do not appreciate deceptive ploys to charge customers without their knowing to take advantage of the unsuspecting. Not to mention recycled food and taking away dishes before they are done!!! A bottle of cava and the bill was 96 Euro!
I have them three stars but as I wrote it reminded me of the bad experience, down to two stars.

I organised a group dinner at Pez Vela and the whole experience was fantastic. We could use a private dinning room with incredible views to the beach and the sea. The service was quick and nice, and the food (butifarra rice) was great. For spanish standars (I am a local) the menu was a little bit scarce, but everything was really good.

You know those places where you feel like you are working harder than the waiters? This is that place. The food is fine, the environment cool — and the service is awful! At least it would be awful if it was actually service. I could have eaten and drank more had anyone came near me to take an order, or clear my plates…
Oh, and when I finally got the bill — I had been charged for 2 or each meal I had ordered ‘sorry sir, the machine does that’.

Outstanding location and great food at reasonable prices. Make sure you get the paella. I tried them all and they are all great, but my favorite is definitely the one with squid ink.

Loved the seafood paella. It is enough for two people. Also enjoyed the fried fish — yummy! It is difficult to get a reservation in the evenings and weekends, so book in advance. Service isn’t the best, but the taste of the food makes up for it.

Une super adresse, sous le mythique hotel W et le long de la plage.
La paella à l’encre de sèche est vraiment divine, à tester impérativement !
Cadre contemporain façon chiringuito d’Ibiza dans lequel on se sent vraiment bien !

Hicimos la Cena de Navidad y fue todo un éxito, nos dieron un salón privado con camarero exclusivo y la comida esta genial.
Los primeros eran sencillos pero correctos, Calamares a la Andaluza, Ensalada de Bonito Del Norte, Pan con Tomate y Almejas con Salsa Picante.
Los segundos Entrecot y Rodaballo excelentes con guarnición.
De postre una Tarta de Manzana con Bola de Helado de Vainilla.
Precio 70 € por persona, pero valió la pena, el servicio fue excelente.

Fantastic views and cool interior beachy décor. This place is a nice place to linger with a drink or 5 and take in the sea air. Tried the paella with mushrooms, sausage and asparagus. Definitely big enough for 2 or 3 to share — though you wont want to cause it’s DELICIOUS. Friends had the seafood paella, which I sampled but didn’t love as much as the sausage one I had ordered. Also had some calamari and a forgettable appetizer.
All in all. I liked this place. If you come, stick to sharing a few tapas or split a paella plate. That is, unless you got the money to drop… and if you are staying at the neighboring W Hotel, chances are that you do… in which case, get few drinks and enjoy the view while you’re here.

Another restaurant of convenience — we were staying at the W Barcelona, and stumbled upon Pez Vela in a hungry frenzy.
First, the location is awesome… right across the walk from the beach — the people watching was excellent! Second, given its prime location (especially adjacent to the W) they will charge you an arm, leg, and other much needed body part to eat there.
Hubs and I shared the Paella for 2 — we chose the Arroz de Butifarra, Setas y Esparragos. I won’t lie, it was tasty (quite possibly amplified by me being totally buzzed and not having any food in my tum). They offer a ‘menu chiringuito’ for 35 euro per person — it includes bread, glass of wine, water dessert and your choice of entrée. Pricey, but considering the other surrounding restaurants by the W, it’s about average.
Service was really lacking… our waitress seemed as though she would rather be doing anything else than her job. Cranky, slow and unfriendly… thankfully tipping is not the norm in Spain because it would have been tough — that and I was totally buzzed, so nothing was bothering me. I wanted to buy her a drink (or 10) to cheer her up — poor unhappy thing…
Not a bad place to eat, just be prepared to drop some euro!
