Schilling

Schilling had great hot chocolate which I quite enjoyed. It this thick and rich but certainly on the dark chocolate side in case for those who prefer more milky ones.
The coffee was unfortunately a little watery/​not strong; which I don’t prefer. It’s not bad but just quite mediocre. I will have a beer there next time instead.
Very lovely setting, a place I think you can have a casual meal with a special someone. Nice place while still keeping things casual!
Some of you who follows my review would know. I generally weight my star ratings higher by the coffee quality. So in this case, the coffee score pulled the overall down. But otherwise, happily a 4 star.

In the fiercly beating heart of old Barcelona, the Barri Gotic, we got ourselves a good nights drink after a fabulous night out. The place is made up as chique wine bar mixed together with an up-​beat cellar feeling. It’s quite stylish. Thus the crowd drawn there was also a mixture of men in suits and fancy girls in glitter tops, tourists and people on a date.
It would have been fun to see the place again during the day.
The red wine I got was not exactly to my taste and — even for a red wine– a bit too warm. The cocktails my friends got seemed pretty decent.
Over all a good spot to start the night in Barcelona.

Good stop and right by our hotel! We got a couple of tapas to share. We got the bread with tomato paste which was pretty tasty and we also got the cheese plate. It had 4 different kinds of cheese. We also got the croquettes which were delicious and onion rings. The sauce was excellent! Overall, a good stop.

Honestamente, debo decir que fue mejor de lo que esperaba… 3 de la tarde, sólo unas cuantas parejas de turistas tomando algo, muchas mesas para elegir y todo tranquilo. Un local amplio, con una extraña mezcla de mobiliario de toda la vida que ha empezado a invadir Ikea de manera aún disimulada pero todavía puede considerarse hasta agradable. Por qué las dos estrellas entonces? 2,50 € por una Coca Cola de esas que viene en una botellita minúscula y que yo mismo tuve que ir a pedir, recoger y luego pagar en la barra, teniendo que insistir para interrumpir a camareros de esos que tienen conversaciones pensando que son las únicas personas a 500 metros a la redonda que hablan castellano y nadie los entiende.

Gute Atmosphäre, leckere hausgemachter Kuchen. Für ein Päuschen am Nachmittag definitiv zu empfehlen.

Overpriced for the quality. The food is decent (great pan de tomate, dry tortilla de patata, good salads) but not what you’d expect for the price. Decent selection of drinks. Fine vibe.

Nice quiet little wine bar right on Ferran. We went here a couple times during our trip. Good place to start the night or just to stay put.
Get a east in the back for quiet and privacy, or sit by a window and watch the street for some entertainment.

I went to Schilling yesterday and had a salad and a glass of wine. Both were poor to say the least but the bill was not. Not a necessary place to go

This is a clean place in a very touristy area. The food is ok but a bit expensive. I had the fries, which were very mediocre. It is dark and relatively quiet (some relatively unobtrusive music in the background, but some other reviews remark that it might be louder at other times). If you want a place with free wifi where you can sit and watch people walk by the windows or relax for awhile, this is ok for a few beers. But if you want dinner, it is probably worth exploring further. (while watching your wallet in this neighborhood)

Mojitos & mimosas are the best you’ll have. This is a great place to have a drink & take a break. Loved it!

Nous avons passé un très bon moment. Ambiance feutrée, décoration simple mais bien arrangé. Belle carte de petite restauration, tapas, salades, hamburgers… C’est un endroit idéal pour commencer la soirée avec un apéro ou pour les petites faim.

It’s a cool place in the centre of the city. Near the City Hall and the Goverment of Catalonia.
Drinks and food are quite good but expensive.

The Schilling burger is recommended, the club sandwich was served with toast bread and my wife prefer it with a baguette, but the staff is very charming and the place as well :)
Sangria was good too!

Situated on a central street in Bari Gotic, this restaurant has great ambiance, starting with dim lighting and the wine bottles lining all the walls. Staff is friendly and service is fast, even on a Saturday night. We only had drinks here, but the experience was pleasant. I enjoyed the house Rioja in a short and wide glass. They have a few types of cava, including one with chocolate (which could have been more bubbly). Nice place to grab a night cap and still be in the middle of it all.

Für mich auf jeden Fall eine Pflichtadresse bei jedem Barcelona-​Besuch. Schöné Atmosphäre, leckerer Kuchen, aber das Wichtigste: die (ich behaupte das jetzt einfach mal) wahrscheinlich leckerste heiße Schokolade der Welt! TOLL!

I was worried that this place would be touristy with plain food and just a place to fill the void in my stomach. It turned out to be a pleasant experience. The food was Americanfied, but it was a nice respite from some of the other places. The atmosphere was different than you get at chain restaurants back home. You could definitely tell you weren’t in Kansas anymore. Eat up and drink up.

Schilling es un clásico del barrio gótico de BCN y en una de las calles de más afluencia de turistas y gente de todas clases. Un lugar bohémio, neyorquino con muchas tablas formadas a través de muchas generaciones y donde recuerdo cuando lo frecuentaba en su época dorada con chicas profesionales en la barra manejando las botellas a lo Tom Cruise. Ahora, con toda la oferta que hay en la zona se ha convertido en un lugar más para tomar una copa en compañía.

Nice bar, friendly staff, chilling music, chilling place. I felt so comfortable, I would be there more often, if I would live around. I am sure I will be back, when I am in town. Highly recommended from my side.

Situated on c/​Ferran which is a main road that runs between La Rambla and Laietana. Schilling is a bit of an institution in Barcelona it’s an airy spot that’s open from 10am and offers breakfasts, lunches and dinners although I’m not sure what the fuss is about. It’s most popular at night when it fills up with Spaniards and locals quaffing wine and coffee, beer and cocktails and enjoying tapas whilst they chat ever-​loudly over the top of quite intrusive and oft-​unpalatable dance-​type muzak. Breakfasts consist of home made cake, croissants, baguettes (some of which are vegetarian ie cheese only and no ham), hot chocolates, etc. Free wi-​fi! To read the full review:

Mich würde ja immer noch interessieren warum das hier Schilling heißt. Gesagt wurde mir Schilling wär die Währung aus Österreich vor dem Euro als ich danach fragte. Toll das wusste ich auch schon vorher, aber warum ist das der Name des Ladens?
Wir hatten im Schilling einen Treffpunkt abgemacht und als wir dann dort waren, wollten wir irgendwie erstmal nicht rein. Es saßen gerade nur Ü60er drinnen und es wirkte sehr verstaubt. Von drinnen sah das aber auf einmal ganz anders aus.
Es wurde Rockmusik gespielt, gab gute Sandwiches und guten Café. Eigentlich warnen dann auch eher nur junge Leute drinnen, aber die Stimmung war unheimlich relaxed. Eine Oase der Ruhe und zur Abkühlung im heißen Barcelona. Wie der erste Eindruck oft täuscht

Poco que comentar de un espacio que no acaba de convencerme.
A pesar de sus techos altos, de su pintura cuarteada, su cintura decadente y el olor como a madera vieja. Detalles que en casi cualquier otro lugar serían puntuarían hacia arriba. Pero no aquí no.
En un sitio que se supone que sirve para desayunar no tienen Cola-​Cao, ni chocolate. Me ofrecieron otra especie de sucedáneo*, Cacaolat que, aunque comprendo que es de la tierra, no es comparable a que me tome una buena taza de chocolate hecho en el momento o un simple Cola-​Cao a mi gusto.
El café más bien normalito, guiris a tutiplén, libros falsos en falsa estantería de pared y la puerta siempre abierta aún a costa de que los que estamos dentro pasemos frío. Supongo que piensan que la gente no sabe que aunque una puerta esté cerrada no significa que el espacio no esté abierto.
*Me apetece aclarar que «Cacaolat» es un producto que admiro desde niño y con el que he disfrutado y sigo haciéndolo, muchísimo. Lo que ocurre es que hasta esta mañana que relato aquí nunca me lo habían ofrecido como desayuno. Y no, el Cacaolat lo tomo en otras ocasiones, frío y riquísimo.

Wir sind zufällig im Shilling gelandet. Die Bar /​Café ist sehr gemütlich und bietet Essen und Trinken zu vernünftigen Preisen an. Der Service ist sehr zuvorkommend und nett. Wir fühlten uns dort sehr wohl und gut aufgehoben. Beim nächsten Besuch in dieser tollen Stadt werden wir unter Garantie wieder hier einkehren.

Cuántas esperanzas había puesto en el Schilling. Fue de los únicos sitios a los que decía «aquí tengo que venir algún día»: local grande, luz tenue, sofás y unas encantadoras mesitas con lámpara propia, ideales para tomar un café leyendo el periódico.
Fui al Schilling tres veces, un día para desayunar, otro por la tarde y otro día por la noche, para tomar unos cócteles. He visto todas sus caras y no me ha gustado ninguna.
El ambiente, con su librería falsa y su decoración antigua pero sin perder el toque moderno, no está mal, pero nada fuera de lo normal.
Los camareros van a su ritmo y me acuerdo que el día que desayuné allí, tuve que ir a la barca a pedir, cuando claramente me habían visto entrar. No hay problema, me levanté y pedí, pero para que me trajeran un mísero café y un croissant, tuve que levantarme de nuevo. La camarera estaba charlando con un amiguete en la barra y se había olvidado. Su compañero era de esos que están viendo para las mesas con la mirada desenfocada y ni se enterarían ni de que te vas sin pagar.
Aun así, le dí otra oportunidad una noche para tomar cócteles, porque quizá «lo suyo seríà la noche», pero tampoco. El servicio tardó una eternidad, los cócteles estaban bastante malos y cargados y para que un camarero te hiciese caso, casi tenías que hacer la ola.
No me gustó. Creo que se ha ido convirtiendo además, en un sitio para turistas, con buena fachada pero poco «contenido»…

Je suis tombée par hasard sur ce café — bar à vins, qui se trouve dans une rue très touristique de la ville. La décoration est étudiée, façon café traditionnel espagnol du début du 20ème siècle. La disposition des tables est assez aérée et, on se sent bien dans cet endroit qui donne envie d’y flâner toute la journée avec un bon bouquin. La musique de fond est agréable, très jazzie. Les plats proposés né sont pas très espagnols ! Burgers, club sandwich… on est loin des tapas qui sont proposées dans tous les bars de la rue. Le vin que j’ai bu était de qualité ainsi que l’assiette de charcuterie catalane que j’ai dégusté (enfin un produit typique !) Ce qui m’a fait craqué: le carrot cake (mon petit faible) et le côté zen, et très accueillant de l’équipe.

Así que esto es Barcelona: café en calle privilegiada, entras atraído por un exterior de tiempos pretéritos, buscas refugiarte del guiri y de repente te encuentras en un interior entre decadente y dejado ocupado por guirismo a gogó, la camarería es «moderna» pero aún no ha olvidado sonreír lo cual es de agradecer… pero los precios sí son acordes a todo lo anterior, a veces duele.

Was soll ich zu einem Café in Barcelona sagen das Schilling heist? Das waren noch Zeiten als es keinen Euro gab! :-)
Das Café ist auch innen recht nett, ein klein bischen duester durch die gelbe Beleuchtung. Kommt aber irgendwie ein bischen an ein Wiener Kaffeehaus ran. ;-) Publikum ist gemischt, die meisten kommen vom Shoppen. Es gibt doch recht wenige Cafes zum gut und gemuetlich drinnensitzen und Zeit verinnen lassen in der Stadt. Sind sonst alles eher Bars. Wer in Barcelona ist sollte hier auf einen Kaffee gewesen sein und ein bischen Zeit vergehen lassen.

Buena música por la noche. Una noche estaba repleto y con unos amigos quisimos entrar pero no pudimos. Con uno de ellos nos había quedado algo así como una buena vibra y las ganas de haber estado en aquél lugar. Volvimos una tarde pero nada fue igual. En la barra esa ocasión había un argentino al momento de caja que casi sin mirarnos nos cobró, mientras seguía hablando con sus partners made in home. Porteños con su tonada sobradora que no tolero ni por refilón. Aquél día que yo fui, luego de pasar al lavabo, fui casi intercedida por estos personajes de la barra con un «¿te vas?» cuando yo me dirigía hacia la puerta. Que yo sepa las puertas son de entrada o bien, de salida. Pero en ese momento me dirigía en sentido de salida, evidentemente salía. No quedaban dudas. En fin, hay gente para todos y todo. En cuanto al sitio, no, mejor no. De afuera se lo ve moderno, cool, con onda pero quizás no sea mi estilo o no lo apruebo por la gente que va. No lo se. No me dejó un buen sabor. Tú verás, si tiene o no que ver con «vos». Voilà!

La verdad es que nunca me gustó, pero esto no es razón para excluirlo de estas reseñas urbanas on line tan monas. Cada vez que iba, me sentía como en medio de esos hoteles decadentes con olor a rancio, en que todo el mundo va de pijo cuando en el fondo son más que sólo apariencias.
Su librería de escenografía me parecía fatal y ñoña. Como que todo era falso, la decoración, el rollo, no sé, me parecía poco autentico. Un día quedé con unos amigos y la verdad que me sentí obligado a ser nice and trendy para tener amigos. No porque nadie me obligara, sino porque creo que era el espíritu de ese momento, en ese lugar, a esa hora.
Yo entré buscando algo, o alguien interesante que retuviera mi mirada o me sorprendiera con una frase ingeniosa, o con un comentario mordaz y atrevido, o tal vez alguna proposición indecente, pero creo que no estaba en el lugar indicado a la hora correcta, por lo tanto me emborraché.

Se trata de una cafetería hípermoderna que atrae a muchos de los turistas que pasean por allí. El local está decorado con mucho gusto, emulando un estilo de principios de siglo pero sin dejar de lado una estética contemporánea. Lo único que, en mi opinión desentona, son los camareros: un puñado de cuarentones «modernos» tatuados hasta el último centímetro cúbico de su piel que parecen recién salidos de un videoclip de Lori Meyers o algo así. Por el día es una apacible cafetería y por la noche es un sitio que frecuentan especímenes similares a los camereros, demasiado altaneros como para mezclarse con el vulgo. Y encima el café les sale regulero. Para comer tienen paninis, crepes y tartas.

Our favourite bar when visiting Barcelona, this place was very laid back with a great atmosphere. Friendly staff, good food and reasonable drinks prices! The only drawback is the slightly dodgy surrounding area so just be careful when leaving late at night!

Pour prendre un verre ou pour discuter avec des amis cet endroit est vraiment sympa. Sa déco et son ambiance en fond un petit coin unique

Tables are laid out around a central bar area, where you can buy food and drinks, i had a great mojito made with brown sugar — the way i like it! Music is up beat and good. Whilst its a big space with high ceilings it can get smokey. All sorts were there, having fun and people watching.

This one of my favourite hangouts in Barcelona. Getting a seat at one of the large windows provides entertainment all night. You can watch the people go by for hours.
The music is always great, although sometimes a bit loud. A great place for a ‘caña’ before your night starts. The clientele is a mixture of Spaniards and tourists, I would say. Not the most genuine Spanish bar by any means, but still, it has great ambiance.
Try the excellent club sandwich with crisps for about 5 euros.

Immer wenn ich nach Barcelona komme, darf ein Besuch im Schilling nicht fehlen. Obwohl es zentral gelegen ist und deshalb auch von vielen Touristen frequentiert wird, bewahrt es sich eine besondere Atmosphäre. Dies liegt unter anderem an der stilvollen Einrichtung — insbesondere die Bar ist ein Blickfang. Ein idealer Ort um tagsüber einen Café zu trinken und einen kleinen Happen zu essen oder um sich abends als Auftakt für eine lange Partynacht zu treffen.

Café Schiling haben wir auf Empfehlung besucht, und es war so wie beschriebeninteressant eingerichtet, der Service war echt klasseund das Chef​-Sand​wich​.mh so lecker

Sehr Urig, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Probiert dort unbedingt die Sandwiches. Auch der Service war klasse

L’avis précédent laisse entendre que le Schilling est un bar-​boîte survolté. C’est avant tout un café-​bar qui offre aussi de bons snacks (sandwiches, apéros…) et où l’on trouve une faune éclectique composée de touristes, d’étudiants, de barcelonais, hétéro et gay. Le cadre est agréable et cosy. La musique est en sourdine à l’arrière-salle. C’est vraiment un lieu accessible au plus grand nombre qui est d’ailleurs cité dans la plupart des guides touristiques.

A fond les watts!!!
Ambiance latino lounge, décor soigné et raffiné, lumière tamisées… plutôt classe… pas de doute, on né peut que rentrer !! Musique à fond (on adore!!). Prix fort raisonnables. Clientèle gay. Un seul regret, la sangria n’existe qu’en carafe pour 4 personnes…
