Shanti

Shanti significa «pau» en català i a la porta del restaurant les finestres són plenes de Shanti, pau i paz que et conviden a entrar.
El servei molt amable i atent. Un restaurant indi tradicional, autèntic, que porten indis desde fa molts anys. Cartes amb una varietat de cuina tradicional: pots demanar l’arròs i la carn per separat o en plats convinats. Les cartes estan en els tres idiomes; indi, català i castellà i els cambrers et guien en quantitats perquè no et quedis massa tip/​a.
També disposen de menús diaris de dinar o sopar. El de nit és de 22’90 € i el del migdia d’uns 11 €.
Tenen tot tipus de pans per acompanyar: el tradicional, amb all, amb mantega, etc…
I de postre vam demanar un batut de mango que fan amb un extracte d’una planta (ara no recordo quina ouch!!!) que estava boníssim, era molt suau.
També vam demanar un pastís de pestanga amb mantega que només recomano als més «golosos»!

Our favourite Indian restaurant in Barcelona! Friendly and efficient service, pleasant dining area and the curries are just simply awesome! Spicy or not can be totally customized to your tastebuds! My favourites are: the shrimp tandoori, chicken handi, murg kadai, lamb shimla (all curries served with rice). Very reasonable prices — about 20 € per person.

Il n’y a pas énormément de restaurants indiens à Barcelone, en tout cas assez peu qui me donnent envie (et j’ajouterais «et font confiance»). Les revues Unilocal sur Shanti étant plutôt positives, je suis allée tester en bonne compagnie un samedi soir. Vers 21h nous étions les premiers dans la salle, qui s’est remplie partiellement au fur et à mesure, sans que le restaurant né soit jamais plein.
Nous avons pris des cocktails en apéritif, bons et joliment présentés. L’assortiment d’entrées m’a un peu déçue, tout était frit et donc avait un peu le même goût. Le butter chicken était lui à la hauteur et les plats de mes compagnons aussi. Les naans sont bons, mais assez différents de ceux que j’ai l’habitude de manger.
Les portions sont conséquentes.
Avec un cocktail, une entrée, un plat et du vin, le repas nous est revenu à un peu plus de 15 € par personne, ce qui est très correct.
Le service est sympathique et relativement rapide.
En définitive, une bonne adresse mais pas un indien inoubliable.

I have eaten inIndian restaurants all over the world, and I have to say that I had high hopes for this one. However, it didn’t quite measure up. I ordered a chicken korma and it was completely bland, it just might have been that one dish. The restaurant was packed with Indians, which is usually quite a good sign.

Local ubicado en una de las zonas de oficinas de la ciudad. No lo encontrareis en primera línea, sino en un discreto edificio ubicado en una discreta vía secundaria. Así pues, quien va a Shanti es por dos motivos: o porque se lo recomiendan o porque se lo recomiendan…
Una vez entréis, veréis que la decoración es bastante plana… podría ser igual un restaurante chino que una casa de menús, a excepción de algunos detallitos de decoración. ¡Lástima! Siempre me han gustado decoraciones exóticas en locales supuestamente exóticos.
Tema gastronómico. He estado en dos ocasiones, en concreto al mediodía. La verdad que la experiencia ha sido satisfactoria, básicamente considerando la RCP. Este restaurante tiene dos menús, el de 11 y el de 14 euros. Ambos son igual de completos, lo único que «el caro» dispone de platos algo más elaborados que el inferior.
Los primeros no están mal, pero hay mucho más nivel en los segundos, no nos vamos a engañar. Pollo curry (muchas variantes), tipos de cerdo macerados y otras elaboraciones de nombres irrecordables… Como veréis en las fotos, salsa a raudales y arroz basmati súper suelto, ¡como debe ser!
Bueno, os preguntareis por el picante… En los platos que he probado, es asumible para mi paladar. En lo que respecta a la salsera que te ofrecen con 3 mejunjes, cuidadín… la que dicen que es picante, realmente es bastante HOT.
Por último, no menospreciéis el pan… ¡OJITO con el pan! Está riquísimo; altamente recomendable y cuando llega calentito es simplemente delicioso.

Shanti is by far the best Indian restaurant in Barcelona.
You’ll always find indian people eating in the restaurant which is for me a prove that the food is quite original.
Just love it!

I’ve had spectacular Indian food.
I’ve had terrible Indian food.
The food here at Shanti ranks closer to the latter.
We got a sampling of different items — some were good, some were not… but maybe we just ordered the wrong things? Here’s the rundown:
Tandoori Lamb — served on a bed of onion slices atop a sizzling hot dish. It was kinda dry. I didn’t like it, but my friend did.
Lamb sausage-​type thing — also on the bed of onions atop a sizzling hot dish — we sent the first one back because it was tough and old. the second round was fresher — I liked it, my friend hated it. didn’t eat a thing.
Garlic Naan — excellent.
Lentils — it was a good stew. needs to be accompanied by rice. it was too salty.
Chicken Curry — that was my favorite of the night — the chicken was tender, and the curry was good.
Rice with shrimp — the rice was overly toasted (crunchy), and i thought the shrimp tasted old — i spit it out.
In all, the dinner with wine (2 bottles — 30 euros total) came to 100 euros… ok — 70 euros for the food.
would i come here again. not at those prices for the quality — i mean we had to send one dish back, and gave up when the rice was crunchy.
The head server was rather rude and condescending to my friend as she was trying to help explain that I was looking for items without cream/​milk/​yogurt/​butter…
How do they stay open? the place is pretty big, and in total, there were only 4 tables used throughout the night.

I’m American, having lived in Barcelona for a year now and was luckily enough to find Shanti after being here about 4 months. This is by far the best Indian restaurant I have visited in Spain. Unfortunately, that’s not saying a lot, but I would rank Shanti with good restaurants in London and NY as well.
The food has been consistently good (we go probably twice a month minimum) and the staff extremely friendly. It is not the cheapest restaurant, which we think is somewhat necessary to get the great quality. We focus on Chicken Tikka Massala, Lamb Vindaloo, Rogan Josh, samossas, occasionally add a vegetable dish. Again, the food is great. We just ordered take away for the first time and was very happy as well.
