Monte Igueldo

A cheap fun amusement park! The kitchy old rides are great. Maybe short and sweet but still fun experiences. Where else can you peer down over a cliff to amazing rugged coastline IN A DUCKY BUMPER BOAT?

Mon feed — back n’a pas changé depuis ma première visite à l’été 2013: Le spot est OLD, CHEAP, KITSCH, bref baigne dans son jus depuis des décennies, mais c’est aussi un point de vue magique sur la baie de San Sebastian. Tout en haut de la colline que l’on rejoint via un funiculaire de l’an pebre (vétuste) mais pour une modique somme, l’on découvre un parc d’attraction plus qu’original: des manèges que l’on né voit nulle part ailleurs tels une promenade en bateau sur un minuscule canal menant dans une grotte (très courte balade à réserver pour les petits), des auto — tamponneuses vieilles de l’an 40, un petit train à grande vitesse faisant le tour des installations que je né testerai jamais, des embarcations sur un plan d’eau, des petites attractions sur la terre ferme, une tour de la terreur et j’en passé. Un restaurant d’”altitude” complète l’offre et un bâtiment d’habitation ou résidence hôtelière surplombe le tout. Pour redescendre, je vous recommande d’éviter le funiculaire, non pas pour le prix, mais juste pour l’occasion de traverser une forêt qui fait partie du chemin de Compostelle.

Sin duda, la vista que tienes desde este monte es la mejor que puedes tener de la playa de la Concha. Se puede subir en coche o mediante un funicular que vale unos 3 euros ida y vuelta. (no recuerdo bien el precio, pero no es nada caro).
Lo del funicular en sí, ya es toda una aventura, porque la verdad es que un cacharro tan antiguo y con esa altura, un poco de miedito te da. Pero coges fuerza, cierras un poco los ojos y te dejas llevar, total, lleva muchos años ahí, ¿por qué se iba a estropear justo cuando subes tú?
Una vez que llegas arriba encuentra un pequeño parque de atracciones y un hotel. El hotel tiene pinta de ser muy exclusivo por la marca de los coches que estaban aparcados en la puerta.
El parque de atracciones, muy normalito, salvando las vistas. Más para niños que para adultos, pero siempre lo son, ¿no?
Dimos una vueltecita, te puedes sentar a descansar, tomar algo en una de las cafeterías, merendar viendo la ciudad y bajar de nuevo a la playa.
Si tienes tiempo y quieres una buena foto de San Sebastian, tienes que subir.

A very so-​so experience on the quiet side of San Sebastian. Close to our hotel and primed for anyone UNDER the age of 5. There are some good views here, but the rides and such are pretty infantile and mundane.
The Casa Del Terror was like walking blindly in the dark with people jumping out at you.
The water ride was equivalent to a bathtub with a few waves.
The Swiss Mountain roller coaster ride was probably the best of the bunch and the saving grace for all the money we spent up there hoping to find an enjoyable time for us and the 8 year old.

Midway up the steep east side of Monte Igueldo, we waved to the descending funicular car in appreciation of their gravitational potential energy hoisting us up the mountain. Funicular physics aside, we made the three minute inclined journey to check-​out the mountaintop amusement park and admire the panoramic views.
Built in 1912, the funicular on Monte Igueldo is the third oldest cable railway in Spain. The round-​trip ticket cost € 3.10 and included entrance to the amusement park.
According to our young-​adult daughters, the amusement park was childish and antiquated, but the final plummet on the roller coaster was a worthy thrill. After a few rides and a bag of popcorn, they were ready to have a look at the view.
From our lofty vantage point, the golden sands of La Concha Beach outlined the semi-​circular La Conch Bay like the rim of a scallop shell. Shimmering in the distance, the iridescent San Sebastian earned its nickname as «The Pearl of the Cantabrian Sea».
With the coastal views etched in our camera’s memory cards, we boarded the funicular for our return to sea level. Midway down the mountain, we waved to the ascending funicular car; this time for their counterbalance keeping us from a free-​fall into the station below.

Unlike some of the other San Sebastian attractions, you don’t stumble upon the Funicular unless you go looking for it. I highly recommend that you do go looking for it! For three euros, you can ride the Funicular (actually an English word that means something like «crazy trolley») to beautiful views. The ride is not long at all but the views are so worth it. I took tons of photos at the top and enjoyed checking out the mini amusement park (with incredible views from the kiddy rides!). I also bought a diet Coke at the top and paid about 0.25 euros to use the restroom. If I’m back in San Sebastian, I’ll ride it again!

The Funfair at the top of Monte Igueldo is unbelievably cheesy and overpriced. Even so, taking the funicular to the top was one of my favorite things we did in Basque Country. The style of the funicular building and the carnival itself are wonderful examples of Belle Epoque design, if you look past the grime. And the views! Holy moly… the views! It’s worth your money just to ride up there and take it all in. Absolutely stunning.

This is where you have the classic view of the bay of San Sebastian. Generally there is a funicular that takes you up to the top, except on Wednesdays as we discovered. It is a little bit of a hike to get up to the top and some family is charging you to go up to the amusement park/​hotel that caps the peak. We were there at the end of December, so everything was closed. Great view that is worth the detour.

This is a side of San Sebastian people don’t talk about. If you’re staying in the hotel nearby or you’re under the age of 6 this might be for you. Pony rides, water rides, a carousel, and some other kitschy things. I dig the «Casa del Terror» and the totally baked hallucinating mushroom people.

Situé à San Sebastian, le funiculaire du Mont Igueldo est tout simplement surprenant et pittoresque. Ce funiculaire permet l’accès au Mont Igueldo et surtout nous offre une vue imprenable sur la baie de San Sebastian.

der «Parque de Atracciones Monte Igueldo» ist ein altmodischer Freizeitpark, den man am Besten mit der Standseilbahn erreicht, die ebenfalls eine Atraktion für sich ist. Die Coca Cola Werbung ist handgemalt, wahrscheinlich zu der Zeit, als Coca Cola in Spanien eingeführt wurde :-)
Vom Monte Igueldo hat man einen tollen Blick über die Bucht von San Sebastian und die Atraktionen kosten auch kein Vermögen.
Am Besten: man besteigt den Turm (hier schien der Aufzug nicht zu funktionieren, man musste zu Fuss nach oben, bezahlen musste man trotzdem), der Ausblick ist einfach genial!
Das Schönste hier oben: die Zeit scheint stehen geblieben zu sein. Es ist ein Vergnügungspark wie aus einer anderen Zeit, einfach wunderbar.

Precioso lugar. Despues de una carretera con muchas curvas, llegas al Faro, desde donde tendras unas fabulosas vistas de la bahía.

Jajajaja muy bueno vircotto se llama montaña suiza porque Franco no dejaba que se llamara rusa por el tema del comunismo no se hasta que punto sera eso cierto pero es la leyenda urbana que siempre ha existido en Donosti. Desde aqui podreis ver el tipico ‘marco imcomparable’ donostiarra con toda la bahia, la isla e incluso Urgull, el Kursaal y la catedral del Buen Pastor Merece la pena subir por lo que se ve, no por el parque de atracciones que da verdadera GRIMA.

Tiene una vistas estupendas a toda la playa y la ciudad, el hotel muy bien pero si quieres ir al casco antiguo tienes un paseito. Primero necesitas el fonicular para bajar del monte igueldo y luego ir caminando por todo el paseo hasta llegar al otro lado de la playa o coger un taxi, si vas en coche en la ciudad imposible de aparcar, así que mejor moverse en transpote.

El parque de atraccione es divertidisimo pero bastante caro. Pagas en cada atracción que montes y sale caro, yo preferiria pagar entrada. En general el monte es muy visitado con magnificas vistas al mar

un monte con un ‘parque de atracciones’ un tanto curioso, pero con muy buenas vistas sobre toda la ciudad y el paseo maritimo, impresiona.

Je suis retourné là-​bas aprés plus de 20ans.
Cela n’a pas changé. C’est un petit parc d’attractions ouvert toute l’année qui, ce qui né gache rien, surplombe la ville de San Sebastian et sa plage. Enmenez vos enfants, ils adoreront!
J’y retourne moi-​même avec les miens dès cet été.
