We decided to head out on the bikes again in search for some coffee and b-fast. This diner sits on Rte 30 not 81 between Gettysburg and Abbottstown. When you see a lot of «q-tips» going in and out of a diner, you know it’ll be good! This place didn’t let us down. The eggs and fried potatoes were perfect. Good variety on the menu ~ Could their s/p shakers, jam dispenser use a cleaning. Yes! For that reason I give this place a 3.5−4 star. Hate dirty items at a table :(

When we were driving through, we first passed by this little standalone diner. We doubled back because we were starving. Good thing, too. When we parked, there were a lot of cars, so you know this is pretty popular. When we got in, we could seat ourselves, so we sat in a little corner. The waitress promptly gave us menus and took our drinks. Now for the menu: Good food for so cheap!!! I got a 2−2−2(2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and 2 bacon strips). My sister got a 3 – 3(3 french toasts and 3 bacon strips). My mom got the 81 omelette, while her boyfriend got a ham and cheese omelette. They do have Mexican dishes on the menu as well, which is very surprising for a diner. I was curious, but I really wanted pancakes that day. The pancakes were HUGE and so fluffy! I couldn’t finish it because it was just so big! The bacon was crispy and delicious. The omelettes came with slices of toast that were already buttered, which was a nice surprise. According to mom’s boyfriend, the 81 omelette was better than his, but his was still pretty amazing. My sister’s french toast was just as fluffy and they use really thick bread slices, so she couldn’t finish hers either. Our waitress was very attentive. Our cups(including the coffee cups) were never empty and she was very nice. Overall, this diner was pretty amazing. If I end up passing close to this diner, I’ll probably stop back in to try their lunch and dinner specials.

This place is not much to look at from the outside, or the inside for that matter. The décor probably hasn’t changed in at least 20 years. The food is typical diner food, but what was not typical was they had Mexican food on the menu. I guess this is because there is a pretty large population of Mexicans in the area. I decided to order from the Mexican menu and I was not disappointed. The sauce on my burrittos was very tasty and the portion was good for lunch. The service here is good and I would definitely come back again.

This restaurant has changed hands, and names.(Emigs 81 Diner) It used to be better. We were there on the 4th of July. My hubby got the honey fried chicken for $ 8.50(way too expensive), I got 2 tacos for $ 3.50. The chicken was so small I could hardly see the pieces in his big olé hands(REALLY, they were tiny). The tacos were way to greasy, lots of grease left on the plate, and not very good.

Roasted turkey with gravy on a waffle. Need I say more? This is a perfect comfort food spot on a road trip. The waitress was right out of central casting with her hair up in a bun and a winning smile. The waffle was great — exactly the right crispness to stand up to the gravy(not that I previously knew that a waffle needed be able to stand up to gravy …) Husband had the meatloaf platter with mac and cheese — delicious — and stewed tomatoes. They also had an extensive menu of Mexican food — seemed odd, but everyone in the place except us was ordering that — possibly worth a try on your next jaunt through Abbottstown.
