I’m a woman with thick, short hair that can be easily botched. I’ve tried a handful of the more reasonably priced salons in the area, and I’ve been pleased with A Cut Above. I do recommend this along to people, and I get compliments on my hair.

As a male, when I first walked in, I should’ve known to turn around. I waited half an hour for a two second buzzcut. The lady sat me down and didn’t even change the clipper size. I walked out missing a chunk of my wallet and a haircut that would only look good to a blind person. It’s like they rushed me out of there.

I have been coming here for over 20 years! Paul always does a great job in cutting my hair. Price is reasonable too.

Ever since moving to Stow, I have been bouncing around hair salons to find a good hair dresser who stays in one place! So after reading a couple of positive online reviews about«Meaghan» at A Cut Above, I decided to make an appointment with her for a hair cut and color.(I haven’t tried out any other services at this salon so I can only speak about Meaghan). During our consultation, she gave me great ideas about what I could do with my color. She didn’t pressure me at all, just explained what we could do now or in the future sometime. I normally only get semi-permanent hair color to cover up some gray. But she suggested adding few highlights to give the color depth and dimension. I really liked her suggestions, and she was able to do the semi-perm and the highlights at the same time which no other stylist has ever suggested and/or done. The color came out terrific! Exactly what I was looking for. She also cut my hair well; she only did a trim, but did it exactly the way I wanted, maintaining my layers and length. She listens and at the same time, will give you some fresh ideas if you want to change things up a bit. Also, she knows how to blow out frizzy, bad hair straight without relying on the crutch of the flat iron. It’s becoming increasingly rare to find stylists who know how to properly use the round ceramic brush to blow curly hair out straight with a fun flip. So what more could I ask for? Only that she plans to stick around and not move to another salon, which she said she plans to do! If you’re looking for a great hairdresser, try Meaghan! She’s personable, sweet, listens, and very talented!

iI recently walked in to a cut above and was quoted a 5 min wait. After exactly 5 mins I was greeted by a smiling stylist named Meg. She was so friendly and very efficient in her work… the salon as a whole had a trendy feeling, and every person warmly greeted me with a smile… since then I have walked in numerous times and received the same exceptional service. I have seen a couple different stylists and each one is very talented. I have no fear I will b greatly taken care of and walk out feeling like a new woman with every appointment.

I was unimpressed with this place. As a weekday afternoon walk-in, I expected a wait, though I would have liked a heads up it would be about half an hour. I don’t recall the name of the young woman who cut my hair, but it was utilitarian, perfunctory and not particularly friendly. I asked for clean up of my split ends with a couple long long layers by my shoulders to give some movement to my thin, flat hair, but I’d be open to any suggestions. I received no feedback a not particularly skilled version of my request, not bad, not good, just blah. I agreed to have her dry it, which seemed obvious to me, given I had no other way to tell what the cut looked like, particularly given the stylist’s lack of input. Later, I realized I had almost doubled by bill by that choice. Despite looking at the board for half an hour, the way it was written wasn’t very clear. It wasn’t awful, but I wouldn’t go back given the $ 45 cut/dry price tag and indifferent service.

I’ve been going to A Cut Above for about 12 years(yes, it’s true), and have been very happy, having received service provided by several different people. My 14-year old son(a picky teenager) has also become a regular, and is equally satisfied. So ignore the bad reviews(I refrain from characterizations that might be unfair), and try it out. I suggest that you carefully discuss what you want and how you want it before anything is done, usually works better that way.

I cant believe that this place has such a poor review due to 2 sour customers who only came here once. They are basing their review of the entire place on one experience, and they didnt even get the good guy to cut their hair. I have been going to a cut above for about 7 years now. it was my mothers salon, and I started going to it. It is owned by an extremely nice Italian couple, but Paul is the one that is always there and that I go to. The cut is $ 24(a little too much for some), but it included a nice shampoo and condiitoner, hairdry, and an extrememly great haircut. I have been going for so many years now, that he knows exactly how to cut my hair without saying anything. He also does not expect a tip because he is the owner, which is also nice. I have yet to get a haircut that i didnt love from him, in fact, Ive been living in new york for the past 4 years, and as ludacris as it is, I still travel all the way to MA to get a haircut from him… its not that unusual either… he has clients come in from all over, many whom used to live in the area and moved away such as myself… so dont listen to these people who went their once and didnt even get their hair cut by the owner, but probably some girl who just started… go there and ask for PAUL, he is the best, and he also has a great sense of humor, always cracking jokes…

I came home for the summer and wanted to get my bangs trimmed… i made an appoinment and when I got there this woman who was very sweet, but totally clueless cut my hair. I told her that my bangs were just a litle grown out and that I could do with a trim all around. the rest of the trim was fine, but she cut my swooping side-bang not just straight across/blunt, but actually at and UPWARD angle(who DOES that?)! and WAY too short! it was also super thin, it look white trashy! I explained to her that it wasn’t what i wanted and then explained AGAIN how i wanted it even showing her with my hands and making the shape out of a longer piece of hair. she moved more hair into position and tried again… NOPE! this time it was straight across so I had some kind of super awkward half-bang. I asked her to create a swoop the best that she could with some of the last of the front pieces, she managed to make it marginally acceptable, but it took MONTHS to grow my bangs long enough to fix the situation.

I’m so sad. I only get my hair cut 2 or 3 times a year. Usually I love it. I’ve been going to Davis Hairdressing in Newtown Highlands and I love them. Then I moved to Boxborough. I had today off and thought I’d check out this place, which is just 5 minutes down the road from me and looked nice. They fit me in, wonderful I thought. This ranks amongst my worst hair cut experiences. The cut is fine, but it’s exactly what I could have gotten at SuperCuts or something for $ 20 or less. But they charged me $ 40. I was in there 15 minutes. My hair is thick it usually takes a few minutes to shampoo and condition and a whiiiile to cut. How is it that I was in my car at 12:15, and that included a blow dry? Sad times. First, my hair was washed in about 15 seconds and my left ear got more of a wash than my scalp. My shirt also got soaked on either shoulder. Then he cut my hair… «just a trim, trying to maintain length» I said. And he did that and he «recut my layers» in about 20 seconds. He did maintain the length, but my hair just looks chopped and the ends feel strange. I really like a haircut to be a nice little treat. I left here with my scalp sore from his brushing technique and feeling like I was totally ripped off for the rush job factory-style cut I got.
