Our daughter attends Acton School of Ballet and loves it. She’s passionate about ballet and not interested in other forms of dance, so this was a good fit. We transferred there after being at Acton-Boxborough Dance Center, which was fine but she wasn’t learning anything new. The class sizes at ASB are much smaller and the instructors are much more experienced. I had heard it was very rigid, but it’s not. The Directors are warm, kind people and we’ve been impressed with the teachers’ attitudes and attention to the students. The Directors are acutely aware of the body image issues girls in dance often encounter and have good communication with their staff to ensure they are watching out for any red flags. We trust that they are there to help the girls achieve their best in dance, but not push them to fit into a cookie cutter mold. In that way, it is a great balance between a serious conservatory and a «just for fun» dance studio. The only disappointment with ASB is the building itself. It’s old and the studios need to be repainted inside. Still, it’s clean and an overall happy place. One other plus is that instead of a year-end recital, the entire school performs a ballet together. It’s great to see them all working towards the same goal and seeing how their part influences the overall storyline. Our daughter LOVES dancing at Acton School of Ballet and I’m sure she’ll be there for many years to come.
