I am so sorry to report that I found this restaurant closed. :(My husband and I rolled up last night looking for a wonderful evening with delicious food on a cold winter night and found the doors locked. I called today and the number is out of service. What a loss. Velvet Jones will miss India West very, very much… so sad.

There were only one other couple there at 7:45p. Perhaps being a Tuesday was the reason. The restaurant was clean and restrooms were nice and clean too. The menu was a little large which is generally concerning. Ordered the chefs challenge — Lamb Phaal and I dare you to give it a go! It was extremely spicy and just like it says– it’ll make you cry. Also ordered the chicken tiki masala which was great also. I would definitely come back here.

I really wanted to love this place, but after visiting India West tonight to check out their Restaurant Week offerings, I only found myself sorely disappointed in the service/food and $ 250 poorer. ARRIVALATRESTAURANT: We had a reservation for 5 and it was 8pm on a Saturday night during Restaurant Week. When we arrived at 8pm, there was no host to be found. Our group stood around for several minutes waiting to be seated, and it wasn’t until one of our group wandered back into the kitchen area that we were able to flag someone down, who then apologized profusely for the delay and seated us. We did remark upon arriving that the décor and ambiance are very nice. We definitely like the look and feel of India West. SERVICEEXPERIENCE: Service throughout the night was painfully slow, our server’s check-ins were sporadic and oddly timed, and he apologized to us numerous times throughout the night for the various delays(probably on account of a big party that was in the back.) THEFOOD: We are huge Indian fans: we cook it form scratch on a regular basis, from the tadka to our own sauces. We also dine out Indian very frequently. Some of the food was done very well, but one thing that really surprised me was that they could not make my dish spicy. Our first courses — the Australian leg of lamb and the soy glazed paneer — were very flavorful and had some great spice to them even for those who did not want spicy. Unfortunately, my 12-hour braised lamb rogan josh — which I ordered VERYSPICY — came out mild and completely spice-free. When I asked the server about it, he apologized and brought out some«salsa,» which was basically the red sauce you’ll see out on the tables at any Asian restaurant. It would have completely changed the flavor profile of the dish and WASSTILLNOTSPICY, so I told our waiter I was not satisfied with the spice level and asked him to check with the chef on whether there was anything more that could be done to make the dish spicier. He returned with a plate of sliced serrano peppers. That was their answer to providing me a spicy Indian dish! Never in my life have I found an Indian restaurant that was incapable of making a dish spicy without having to pour crazy things onto it. Seriously? I need to add fresh serranos to my rogan josh? NOBIRTHDAYACKNOWLEDGEMENT: Not a huge deal but I did mention that it was my father’s birthday in our reservation notes and asked that they please bring something special out(e.g. a candle in the dessert?) or at least acknowledge the birthday when we arrived or wish him a happy birthday at the table. Since there was no host to greet us as we came in, I guess no one saw this note or even recognized that we were there for our reservation, so this never happened. CHARGEDGRATUITYONTHETAX!!! As a final annoyance, there is the auto-gratuity of 20% because we were a party of 5. I noticed on the receipt that they charge gratuity on the full subtotal including food and alcohol tax. By the time we finally received the check we were in a hurry and didn’t want to waste time there over $ 4, but I did notice it and was not a big fan. WHATHAPPENED? I see so many great reviews on Unilocal for India West and I was really expecting better. I had hoped this could be another staple in our Indian rotation but I just don’t see that happening after the experience tonight.

We came here to celebrate my parent’s wedding anniversary… Only reason we would go to a fancy, pricey Indian restaurant. The food here is average and about $ 3-$ 4 more per plate. There’s really nothing special about it. I would rather make food at home, eat my mom’s cooking, or go to an Indian buffet like at Mayuri’s or Our Place. Save your money and go elsewhere.

I just wanted to post an update to my previous reviews for India West. Our visit last night to India West was a great experience once again. Service and quality of the food were excellent and as I had always expected. We noticed that the menu has been revised a little with new and delightful additions. We decided to have the Ginger Crusted Chicken and Australian Leg of Lamb for appetizers. This was a deviation from our standard appetizer orders however we were delighted. The items were flavorful and went great with the red wine. The dinner was also very delicious. India West remains the most authentic Indian Cuisine Restaurant in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area by a landslide.

Let me start by saying that this review is based on take out /catering experience. The food was supposed to be great earlier but it’s just ok now. I have had dinner /lunch atleast 10 times at this place. In one sentence you guys cheaped out on me. I had ordered a catering for 25 people for my graduation party. But eventually only 22 people turned up. The part I am disappointed with is the quantity. Although the food was supposed to be for 25 people and 22 people turned up, I had to ask a family friend to go out and get some extra food as it wasnt sufficient at all. The alu tikki were all of different sizes?(I thought you guys pride yourself for excellent presentation as well) and we ran out of naan in just few minutes. The main course was also extremely less proportionate except the daal. I am not the kind of guy who cheaps out on the service, I even paid 15% gratuity on a take out order. I expected it to be the par of experience I always had dining in. It was an extremely embarrassing situation for me. On top of it when I called up again to talk to the guy who was incharge of catering, all he says is that Sorry but cant help it(read it f off I dont give a damn). Am so sorry but u lost a customer and I’ll make sure its not just one. Deval

Went back for the lunch buffet again, but this time they were struggling a lot to get food out on to the buffet line. About 2/3rds of the pans were left with just scraps with the staff saying that more was on the way, but it took at least a good ten solid minutes before they brought out replenishments, which is a pretty long time when you’re on a 30 minute lunch break(and I was a minute away from just walking out and giving up entirely). Unfortunately I wasn’t the only one waiting, and the couple dishes they put out were all quickly snatched up by everyone else waiting on them. The waitress was trying her best but it seemed as if the kitchen staff was dropping the ball. A lunch buffet with food only seldomly available isn’t much of a lunch buffet at all. It was a frustrating experience.

The outside is very modern. They have a large outdoors dining area with 3 large fire lamps, definitely made the space. When you walk inside you are immediately greeted by the hostess. This is definitely fine dining… wished I would’ve known before coming. We got there around 8:00 on a Saturday and the place was barely occupied. Came here for a birthday party and we were shown into a large party room. The room was very nice except for the mismatched chairs around the table. When our party arrived and were seated, our waitress brought out a kinda flat bread thing? I’m not sure the name but it was good… except for the aftertaste it left behind. It also came with 2 dipping sauces; a sweet soy kinda glaze and a vegetables green purée. Tasted great with both. Since it’s an Indian restaurant there was no meat on the menu, mainly chicken, fish, and lamb. I had the chicken tiki Marsala, along with 8 other ppl, and it was delicious! The best thing I tasted that night! It was served in a bowl of chopped chicken prices with the Marsala sauce. It was succulent, sweet, tangy, spicy. Flavor is hard to describe but this is the dish I would drive here for! It was served with a side of rice. My bf had the Rogan josh lamb. The lamb was tender but the flavor didn’t compare to the Marsala. Be careful with the spices, it ranges from non to super spicy. A friend ordered super spicy and I could barely finish a piece of meat! Medium is the way to go if you just want some tang. Great atmosphere and great food! Worth the drive and a try!

Best Indian food I’ve ever had hands down! Everything I tried was just amazing! There is even a chicken dish with green bell peppers(and I normally hate green peppers) and that was incredible. Best is the chicken masala. Spinach, chickpeas, paneer masala… all great!

I’ve eaten lunch here twice. Different Indian food than what I’m used to, but I really enjoy it for a change of pace. The lunch buffet is a great deal & has a really good variety. Sign on the door says noisy children will be kicked out — just an fyi for anyone with kids. Gets pretty crowded at lunch, and can get noisy & cramped.

I recommend. Not large buffet, but plenty for sure. Naan Excellent. Everything above average. Quite, which I like, nice atmosphere. Roasted Tomato soup was better than I expected. I would say this Resturant is an undiscovered jewel from this visit. Friday afternoon lunch and only a few tables occupied. I don’t know why… I had really good food and Great Service.

Sorry but I had three dishes and while savory they were way over salted. Shrimp, Lamb and Naan all too salty. Shrimp and lamb perfectly cooked w great mix of flavors licked from a beach.

We wanted Indian food and decided to check out the buffet here. As we walked in, I was very surprised on how this place is very modern and well maintained. We were seated quickly. We decided to try the buffet. They have many different varieties of chicken and curries. The vegetarian biryani was fantastic as it was full of flavor and not dry. I really enjoyed the chicken tikka masala here with their fresh naan. It was really good and creamy. It also had a tiny kick to it. I would prefer it to be spicier so will have to try it again for dinner. The buffet also included chaat and salad. Everything here is was fresh. The naan came out fresh and butter glistening off it. The kheer here was really good. It was served cold and delicious. The gulab jamun was really sweet but good but I preferred the kheer over it.

First off, let me say that I bought a groupon for this place a couple weeks ago. My husband and I LOVE Indian food, although we were eating 1x a week so we started to get sick of it a bit. We have our normal Indian lunch/dinner spot but wanted to try something new! Hence the groupon and branching out a bit. We went on a Monday and got there right at 11am. We waited until about 11:10am to go in. We were the first ones there. We were seated immediately and the place is VERY nice, I will give you that. Other Unilocalers had said that it was VERY dark in there and that they couldn’t see when they walked in, but we didn’t experience that, it was very well lit, blinds open and all. Our waitress took our drink orders.(our groupon came with 2 buffets and 2 drinks.) I ordered an iced tea and my husband order some fancy schmancy iced tea the waitress recommended. We went directly to the buffet and it looked like a good selection. I tried my usual rice, chicken tikki masala, a veggie dish, t and some naan. My husband branches out tons more and tries a little of most things at the buffet. I started eating my food and noticed that it was warm but not really hot as in heat. Now, I LIKE my food VERY hot, I hate eating lukewarm food, yuck! I was overall not really impressed with my food. It was just warm, the tikki masala was just ok, didn’t have much flavor, and the naan was already limp and just somewhat warm. I thought I had read that they served fresh naan on Unilocal,so we went ahead and ordered a fresh serving of garlic naan for our table.(that was extra of course) My husband said his food was just ok, not horrible but nothing to write home about. Nothing he ate was very spicy either, and if you know or like indian food, usually they have a couple dishes that are pretty spicy and will make your brow start to sweat a bit. NOPE, none of that here. Around 11:45am, 1 man walked in to eat lunch. Other than that, we were the ONLY ones there. About the same time, the waitress walked up to our table and asked if we had a groupon, we said yes and she proceeded to say that oh and BTW, that tea is NOT included in the groupon.(You know, the tea she recommended to my husband) Which BTW, wasn’t even that good, he said. Its whatever, although the NOT so good tea WAS $ 4. What!!! When we left around noon, there was STILL no one else there… SO glad we had the groupon and didn’t spend the REGULAR $ 34 on LUNCH! I would have been so mad… the food was just OK, nothing spectaular… OH and I MAKEWAYYYYYY better Chicken Tikki masala at HOME!!! So, we will not be returning, like EVER.

So it’s not just India West, it’s India West by Ross Duggal. And the pure and simple fact that this restaurant had a byline made me think it had to be way too classy for my little lunch group of coworkers. However, they have a lunch buffet so we figured it couldn’t be tooo fancy, right? Well it is a very classy looking little joint. And we did feel a little out of place, since most of the other patrons appeared to be on dates. Our large group didn’t seem quite right in what could be a very romantic date spot. But the waitstaff was accommodating and didn’t seem put out at all, so on to the food! It was delicious! Really yummy fresh naan, some of the best palak paneer I’ve ever tasted, and a nice variety, if limited selection, of options. My only complaint was that they did not have the vegetarian dishes labeled as such. I really appreciate it when Indian buffets do that. I went back for seconds, so I didn’t have room for dessert, but was told the rice pudding was delicious. Their dinner prices are pretty hefty, so the lunch buffet was a great way to get a sampling of their really yummy food.

Classy, great food, amazing service. Sara, yay you! Enjoy being served by you! If you’re into mixed drinks/cocktails — have no fear, you’re in good hands I’m a regular, and the food is consistently amazing, but tempted to add that I think it’s getting better(if that’s possible) I’ve listed some of my favorites: Delhi Street Chaat– a must try, I have it all the time Chicken Tikka Masala(National Dish of England), Malai Chicken — both really good Kabuli Nan — Almonds and raisins — Very tasty, not many places experiment with their naan. Desserts– India West Flambé(Table side dessert), Kheer Badami, Gulab Jamun Additional note: the buffet is quite good as well.

Came here for lunch over the summer with my husband, who is NOT an Indian food person. The buffet is quite good(even hubs enjoyed it). While I’m not exactly an Indian food connoisseur, I’ve tried my share of Indian food and the dishes I typically enjoy(not good with Indian food names, but chicken korma was one) were very tasty here, if not among the better Indian dishes I’ve had. They offer a broad variety, including many vegetarian options. The stand-outs for me were actually at the dessert table. There was some sort of soft pastry ball in a honey sauce that I seriously could have eaten a dozen of… do yourself a favor and leave room for this! The rice pudding was a good texture and just sweet enough. The atmosphere was also really nice and swanky, and dark enough to make lunch feel like a «real» date. I’d definitely return for the lunch buffet.

Tasty. Service: Very good. They were hosting a very large party in addition to tending to the regular service and they were able to keep everything top notch. Drinks refilled and fresh naan was always on the table(and the naan was always going fast). Atmosphere: Fancy I didn’t expect what I saw walking in. Dark, dim, booths, tables in the middle. Looked like a place you’d take a date(all I could think of was Along Came Polly). Apparently they run a dinner service, so it makes sense. We went on a weekend afternoon where there was a birthday party, so there was chaos haha. I assume in the evenings, its a much more formal affair. Food: Delicious. I’m a wimp when it comes to spicy food, so I’m glad to see that a lot of the choices they have to offer in their lunch buffet comes«mild». Keeps the wimps like me happy, while having peppers and sauces available for those that live a little more dangerously(and for those that have no respect for their plumbing). I mainly stuck to the vegetable curry, beef vindaloo, tandoori chicken, and chicken tikka masala. All good in the hood. I feel that they do a good job keeping all the hot dishes fresh, keeping a constant rotation. Some buffets you can see cobwebs forming on the food because its been sitting there forever. Not here. The highlight of the food has to go to the naan. They constantly make it fresh; it comes out piping hot. Just enough of a toast to give it a nice crunch on the edges, while maintaining a great soft inside that’s ready to soak up curry. Its perfect to sopping up all the leftover sauce and curry on your plate after plowing through the proteins and veggies. The dessert is some sort of fried dough ball and some rice pudding. I enjoyed it all, I went back for another round of desert. I noticed there was some sort of salad bar, but I ignored it. You’ll have to find out about that yourself: D Price: I think it was 15 or 16 dollars for the buffet, which I guess could be considered a little high, but its a buffet with good quality food. I’m pretty sure I ate about 50 or 60 dollars worth(3 plates of food, maybe 2 baskets of naan, 2 desserts) if I had ordered this during their dinner hours. So, in my opinion, worth it. Stomach rating: Good. My toilet approves. No signs of food poisoning or any requirement of tums/pepcid/pepto/stomach pump. All I needed was a solid nap afterwards, because this food is not light. It will put you in a food coma. With great food requires great responsibility to sleep. So, I think India West will appeal to just about anyone– those that are really into indian food and those that might be new to it or aren’t just that hardcore about it.

I came for the lunch buffet with some Indian co-workers that frequent here. The atmosphere is upscale, although a bit too dimly lit for lunch time in my opinion. The buffet has a wide selection of both veg and meat dishes. Vegetable samosas, which I don’t see on buffets very often, were good but lacked the sauces to accompany them. I found the Madras soup to be overly acidic, but the Gulab jamun(fried milk balls soaked in sweet syrup) were delicious. The rest of the buffet was good(read average to slightly above average), although nothing stood out in particular. Pros: EXCELLENT service! They bring fresh naan to your table, keep your drinks full, and hand out new silverware for each plate. Good selection for vegetarians. Cost: ~$ 14(w/no drink) including tip which they add automatically.
