The food was FANTASTIC! But the service was even better! Elliot took care of us all afternoon! He was fun, personable, and always had a smile on his face. Overall, a wonderful experience, with wonderful Hawaiian BBQ. Thanks to Elliot! –James AZ

Loved that they served popcorn instead of bread. Absolutely loved the fried pickles, sweet tea and smoked soy beans. ;)

3.5 stars out of 5. The only reason it’s not a 4 star is because there were left over oils on my plate from someone’s last meal. But overall, the service was good, the ambiance was okay, and most of the food selections were good too. Here’s what we got: CAJUNCALAMARI: 7⁄10 CAROLINAKILLERCOBB: 10⁄10 with blue cheese dressing & pre-mixed «FROMTHESMOKERALLMEATS»: 8⁄10 DRYRUBBABYBACKRIBS: 7⁄10 the boys weren’t much of a fan. Too dry to their liking. DRYRUBDIXIEWINGS: 10⁄10 JALEPENOHUSHPUPPIES: 7⁄10 interesting andagi-like tecture & shape COLESLAW: 9⁄10 FRIES:10/10 Total Spent: $ 130+ The verdict? Meh, it was okay. If anything, I’d probably just go back for the chicken wings, the cob salad, and the fries. I did like that they had a container of lots of different types of BBQ sauces, those was pretty cool. I don’t know if I would go back, but it was nice to try. Especially since I’ve literally passed this place for years and never got to trying it.

Good appys & drinks, free popcorn. We ordered the salty chihuahua and a lava flow then fried mac n cheese balls & the fried pickle spears. We’ve been on the search for good fried pickles on the island and finally found them! Only negative for us is country music and the beer and food is a bit overpriced. Service is good, we’ll be back.

My husband and I grew up in the south so every now and then we want southern food. This is the closest we can get unfortunately. The atmosphere is kitschy and fun but the food is way overpriced and not even good. Step up your game!

Great service, but the food is very mediocre. This is a pretty good venue for large parties and they are very attentive — just don’t have high expectations for good«southern bbq».

Great service and very attentive! Was able to answer all of our questions because it was our first time. Great food! Fast and yummy! We tried the Cubano. Loved it with the Savannah sauce :). Also tried the country fried steak with mashers and beans yum. Nice and think hunk of meat! #mahalo

My family and I had a great meal here. After a long walk at the flea market we enjoyed burgers and fish n chips, ice cold beer and major good vibes. Our waitress name is Nancy and she was a very nice super cool host. Thanks for having us.

It was okay. Crab was dry even if I ordered steam. Service was really good. We enjoyed sitting outside(quieter). We noticed others got popcorn when they sat down, we never got offered. I’d rather go to Hugh Hughley’s for soul food.

Had it not been for a few friends of ours who have come here before, we would probably never have stepped foot in this establishment. Having lived in pearlcity, I used to pass by all the time. The inside is exactly how you’d expect it to be. I’m not going to elaborate because you’ll know exactly what I mean. Service was surprisingly friendly but not as thoughtful in terms of refilling sodas and water. Food was hit or miss — mostly miss. I tried the beef brisket, pulled pork combo with corn bread casserole and mac n’ cheese. The better half had ribs. Brisket had some great pieces and some dry pieces. Pulled pork was better but not great. Stick to ordering the ribs here. The Ribs. Ok, the ribs itself aren’t that great. What makes it a great rib experience is the 6 different unlimited sauces you can sample and mix and match. Southwest, hawaiian, memphis and 3 more that I cant remember. If you are a sauce person like me, you’ll love it. Parking is ok. Service and cleanliness not so good but the ribs with sauces are what make this restaurant fun and enjoyable.

It’s close to home, the service is normally really good, and the sweet tea is something I can’t pass up. Obviously I’m not from the South so I’m not even sure if the food is legit but we do enjoy coming here. Super casual and we normally stop in if we can’t think of anywhere to go. My bf enjoys the Brisket and Pulled pork combo. I normally stick to the sandwiches. We average about $ 40 each visit(that’s on the visits when we decide not to drink). Then we head up to Whiskey Dix upstairs to people watch lol.

So we’ve come here a lot since we moved here a year and a half ago, but I’m finally getting around to writing a review. Their sweet tea is fantastic. Sweet and reminds me of Chick fil A. It comes in a huge cup with free refills and they’ll give you a to go cup if you ask for it. My husband loves the roasted lemonade. I usually get the pulled pork and my husband the two meat from the smoker. This last time we went my pork came out freezing, and the second meat my husband got was awful. He didn’t eat it and take it home. I’m extremely disappointed. We will probably be back again, but I’m a little hesitant from this last experience(this is also why it’s only a 3 star review instead of 4). Also, as a note, if you get take out be sure to ask for more sauce. They give you a TINY thing of the Memphis sauce and don’t ask if you want any others.

Well Happy Monday Unilocalers! Just had lunch here at the Dixie Grill and was not at all impressed. First let me start by saying I was invited here by my co-workers so I went along. I had heard about this place but haven’t had time to venture but today was the day. So let me begin by saying I didn’t take any pix. Next time im in the area I will take some photos. So the place is situated off Kam Highway in the Aiea area next door to Runners Hi. There is ample parking but come early. Early birds get the worm. The bar/grill is simple and looks as though it’s been there for awhile. There is outdoor seating available. The menu was basic with lots to choose from. I ordered the Toasty Cuban which consists of ham, pulled pork, onion, tomatoes, pickles, provolone cheese on a hoagie roll. I had three choices for sides; fries, mac salad, and cole slaw. I chose fries. Sandwich was good but the fries were better. Service was quick and our server, Cody was very helpful and prompt. She was always checking our needs and ensuring we were taken care of. So my hats off to her for the hospitality. Now here is why I gave the restaurant 2 stars. Me being in the food service industry for over 32 years has me clamming at the cleanliness of the place. For starters the condiment bottles were dirty and have the appearance that they haven’t been cleaned in months. Needless to say I didn’t use them. The bathroom was out of paper towels and had a porta potty odor to it and was located right next to the kitchen. There was visible high dust all around so pretty much set the mood for me to be a downer. To me the appearance of any place is a reflection of your operation. With it being that dirty, is the preparation of the food any better? Maybe not. Just sayin. Training is due here as well as a deep cleaning and organization. So dine here at your own risk. It’ll be awhile before I make a return trip. Im not a high maintenance guy but do have high sanitation standards especially with regards to food.

Dixie Grill is my little bit of home in the middle of the Pacific. I absolutely love a good southern dish. And, not surprisingly, there aren’t to many option in Hawaii. My wife told me about Dixie and we decided to make a pit stop in lieu of sitting in traffic on the H1. Well, they did not disappoint. The beer was the typical local flair you find anywhere in Hawaii: Nothing special, but just enough to tide you over until you can get your hands on a real craft beer. The food on the other hand got the job done. I love everything they offer. I am especially a fan of the Chicken Fried Steak, but they have something for any Southerner’s palate. They also have a great selection of veggies and starches. Needless to say, if you have a hankering for some southern favorites and decent BBQ, Dixie is the only game in town. They have a great atmosphere and occasional live music to boot.

Four stars because this place reminds me of home. Prices are a little on the high side but it’s pretty kid friendly and the food was tasty. We started with the fried okra, because we love that stuff. It was delicious. I got the Austin burger — complete with bacon and a slice of brisket and the jalapeño mayo which was delicious. My husband got the double platter with brisket and pastrami. Brisket was good but pastrami was dry. And because we can never pass up dessert, we shared the smoked coconut cheesecake. Couldn’t really taste the smokiness but it was delicious nevertheless. We will definitely be back for lunch again.

I work right next door to this place and have had food from here fairly often, so this is not a one shot review where maybe the server is having a bad day or the cooks might be dealing with being short staffed. This review is based over a decent span of time, and over that span of time Dixie Grill has proven to me to be a model of how restaurants should be. And I’m not saying this because I’m friends with the guys next door. The only other time anyone from next door might see me(outside from ordering and picking up my food) is when im darting from my hot car into my air conditioned workplace, so there is no bias in this review. I’m as local boy as it comes, especially when it comes to my taste buds, so to eat at a place where rice isn’t an automatic side dish I’m usually leary. But here the food is so good I don’t mind not having rice or mac salad with my lunch. My favorite is their Cuban sandwich, although really anything on their menu is pretty good to really good. Also don’t forget to add a Sweet tea to whatever dish you order. Its a great fit to any and all thier entrees and appetizers. The service here is awesome as well. They’re always quick and pleasant. Service with a smile all the time and never have I had any type of issues with a mixed up order or with the quality of the meal for as long as I’ve worked next to this place. Prices are pretty reasonable too. Dixie is a great place to switch it up on your palette while getting treated with southern hospitality in the middle of the pacific. Everyone should try this place. Keep up the awesome work guys, sorry for not stopping by and saying«hi» more often, but it’s just so hot outside.

A group of friends and I visited Dixie Grill as a stopover before Whiskey Dix opened at 8 pm. We had a party of 8 and the host could not give us a timeframe as to when our table would be ready. Luck was on our side as about 6 chairs opened up at the bar. Finally 20 minutes later we got our seats and began looking over the menu. The waitress barely greeted us and was in a rush to place our food orders. I ordered a burger medium and of course, it was well done. The sides and apps were great but the entrees were lack luster and overpriced. Probably won’t return here until I have a severe craving for barbecue ribs, and I don’t see that happening in the near future. :/

Neat spot located right off Kamehameha in Aeia. It’s interesting to see home style southern cooking in Hawaii done right. They do a good job of bringing a taste of the mainland here and the prices are great. I came with a large group and ordered their two meat combo of brisket and BBQ chicken. If I’m ever in the mood for some good home style I’ll definitely come back again. If you’re interesting of having a mini-party of 18 – 20 people there is a section on the left as you walk in for people to hang out. They also have outdoor seating and enough indoor seating as well. The portion sizes on the double meats are good, but I’m used to the southern meals where I’m catatonic afterwards. But still, there’s enough for everyone :)

Coming here for Crab Fest was something that me and my cousin’s used to do before I left for the mainland. Now that I am back and not pregnant, we decided to hit up Crab Fest once again. Nothing has changed in the 5 years I have been gone really. We got the crab bucket for $ 83. It says that it can be shared between 3 – 4 people. We were like, «We’re crab lovers, we can do one platter between 2 people». We were wrong. It’s so much crab. I like how it featured all the different crab varieties they were offering, but in the end I found out that I just like plain ‘ol snow crab. The corn was very sweet and juicy and the potatoes were perfectly cooked(a little seasoning would not have hurt though). The regular seasoning on the crab wasn’t great to me, but my husband enjoyed it. We got some fries for my little man. $ 5 for a small basket of fries? Seemed a bit pricey to me, but that’s how they get you, right? We also got the sweet tea which was expensive but worth it with all the refills you can get. My husband prefers it a little sweeter, but I thought it was great. All in all, I would come back here again to try their other«southern» items and get more of their delicious tea. As for the Crab Fest though, I think this was my last time doing it. I prefer the other places like Cajun King to satisfy my bucket ‘o crab needs.

Yeeeeee-haw! This place was excellent. The music was great, the food was great, the drinks were yummy… I have absolutely no complaints! Lemme break it down… HYPES: I came here for the Wine & Design Honolulu event… we literally got to paint & sip. I ordered a sangria and a pulled pork sandwich. I had an absolute blast! I’ll just review the food though. The pulled pork sandwich was SO darned tasty! I added some bbq sauce for a little more juice and texture, but even without adding the sauce, the sandwich was sill tasty. The bbq sauce was just cuz I like my sandwiches saucy. The sangria was delicious– not too strong and not too girly either. All together my food bill was $ 18. Not bad! The service was also pretty great! We were always checked on, waters refilled & most impressively, the kind lady boxed my food for me. I love when they go the extra mile when they don’t need to. GRIPES: At some point, I had to go home. Even though I was really diggin the country music vibe, which I don’t normally get into. :) Fun night, great event & loved the ambiance. I’ll be back for sure.
