I had been long looking for a shop to call my home shop. I’m proud to call durdle zone that shop. They have an amazing owner and staff who foster friendship and community through gaming. The other players are friendly and jovial. The prices have consistently been the best on island. Can’t beat $ 3 packs of standard mtg! Also they are open late and tend to stay open well after closing which allows people who work normal hours the ability to play. I’ve really enjoyed playing here and in the many events hosted. Thank you Jeff and Durdle Zone!

I am planning on moving out of my house soon. I have started cleaning and sorting everything. While doing that I came across some old baseball, football and basketball cards. My brother told me that I could go to a card shop close by. I went there and the owner told me he couldn’t buy them cause they were just not good. I asked if he buys pok’emon cards. Also, no… just getting no’s from this dude. BUT he did tell me about Durdle zone. He told me it was by Jelly’s. I know the area. The next day, my girlfriend and I head down there. We have no idea where Durdle Zone is. So we go to Jelly’s and ask them. They didn’t even know where or what it was. Crazy right? Crazier given how close they are to each other. I saw the reflection in the signs picture on here. Instantly knew where to go. It was 12:45…Durdle Zone doesn’t open til 2 pm. So we left and eventually came back. My girlfriend had her cards in stacks. Just like the sports card shop he just looked at the top cards and said no. My cards are in a binder. So he actually flipped through the entire book before telling me no. He said the most I’d get would be a dollar. He was right, btw. Checked some of them online and the most I got was $ 3. Truth-be-told, if I put them on Craigslist, I’d only sell them for $ 1 anyway. My girlfriend needed to buy a box for her card against humanity cards. She wanted to buy a medium size box so that she could fit them in her closet without them leaning out. Of course that game will come out with more cards but she will buy more boxes of the same size when that happens. This guy was not having that. He «suggested» she buy the bigger box to house ALL the cards. She told him what I just wrote and he didn’t really get it. His suggestion went from that to kind of being forced on her. He wasn’t being mean. He was just not backing down. She ended up buying it and was upset after. If you’re a gamer, this is the place for you. If you’re trying to sell something… make sure it’s more recent. Older cards(even mint or near mint) have no value anymore. Better to go on Craigslist.

I find it pretty amusing that Jelly’s downstairs refers to this as «the magic card store.» I asked an employee if they knew where Durdle Zone was and they said«no idea, but there’s the magic card store upstairs.» The night before we decided to stop by this place, I deliberately called them up to ask if they buy back Pokemon cards. They said they did, but not for very much. That’s cool with me. I figure, if I can get rid of these cards, I don’t really care as long as I can get something back. When we arrived, it was a much different story. The guy barely looked at the cards. Out of the hundreds of cards I brought to the store, he only looked through the pile of rares and shinies and in the end, he bought back none of them. I feel I’ve been a bit misled, but I guess I should’ve known better. Then I asked about purchasing a box to hold cards in. They had a bunch of sizes and ultimately, I decided I wanted to get one that wasn’t too long. The guy behind the counter INSISTED that I should spring for the longer boxes because it holds x-amount more cards for just a quarter more. He INSISTED that it won’t take up that much space, that storing it won’t be difficult, that it’s worth the money. The box I wanted was a dollar and could fit into a shopping bag. The box that he was pushing was $ 1.25 and longer than my forearm. I extremely dislike being pressured into buying something I don’t want but he kept insisting. I should have just walked out but instead, I bought the longer box to make him stop. When I went home, I measured the amount of cards that I actually had next to the box the guy sold me. There was about 5 inches of extra space in that box. That box is now sitting in the back of my car filled with air. Wasted money driving to this place, then wasted even more money buying something that wasn’t what I wanted. Not too happy with my experience with this place.

My love for this place continues to grow. I am horrible with names and I wish I could say I remember the gentleman that has been always nice to beginners such as myself… James? A fellow with glasses — thank you for your hospitality for taking the time to answer all my questions. In addition to my frequent shop-runs, I have competed in my first ever magic night/tournament — in entering the first game day for the Born of the Gods event. I have been a spectator at other shops’ events and this was by FAR a much more casual environment than I had perceived elsewhere. While there were the«standard»(hah, pardon my pun for those that play mtg), intimidating forces, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of helpful and kind, experienced players there were. The event went smoothly and without a hitch. While standard constructed is EXTREMELY competitive, I did not mind participating at Durdle. Kudos!

This is an excellent card shop. They are new but definitely worth the trip. FNM’s are usaly pretty much solid all the time. Prices on singles very slightly but the guys that run the place are pretty fair across the board. I went 2 weeks ago for standard constructed that was a blast. After the tournament we stayed till after 1 playing when we left there were people still playing. Good time great people and a whole lot of fun.
