I first tried a waffle dog when I was in high school, about 5 – 6 years ago. Yesterday at Eat the Street Kakaako(August 29, 2014) I came across Hawaiian Waffledog Company. I decided to get one. I had one with just mustard. I ate it while walking around and before we left I went back and got two more. The workers were so nice! And the taste is great! You have a choice of condiments like the popular spicy garlic mustard, syrup, or regular hot dog toppings like ketchup and regular mustard. Just the combination of waffle and hot dog is different but so good! I’m so hooked on the waffledogs from this company that I looked up today where I could get some more. Luckily my dad was in town because he went to Hilo Hattie on Nimitz for me to get me more! So now every time I drive past I will definitely have to get me some! It’s so worth it!

Hawaiian Waffledog Company’s signature ‘Hawaiian Waffledog’ is now available at Kona Bean Café @ Hilo Hattie’s main branch on Nimitz Highway, adjacent to Zippy’s and City Mill. Here’s the Hawaiian Waffledog rundown: PROS: * It’s made using Nathan’s Hot Dog, tasting«meaty» and having a slight snap to it. * The proprietary Waffle Mix has a nice balance of sweetness to it, while also being somewhat«mealy» like cornbread. * GREAT«crustification» on the outside of the waffle«bun» after it’s cooked, having it almost come across as being deep-fried. * GREAT explosion on the palate of sweet, salty ‘n savory. * The default«sauce» it’s served with, which is faux Maple Syrup(Mrs. Butterworth type) and high quality Deli Mustard(think glazed ham) really compliments it. * The distinctive embossed square texture of the waffle«bun» helps trap the sauce or toppings, enhancing the flavor even more. * They’re MADETOORDER, taking about 5 minutes in the unique waffldog cooking gadget. So you’re guaranteed a fresh taste and texture of the wonderfully crispy waffle«bun». CONS: * Price. Way too much at $ 4 for a pretty small hot dog. You need at least 2 of these to satisfy your hunger, yet still not make you feel full, unless you eat like a bird. This, especially in light of «Costcos» defiantly cheap, yet onolicious buck-fitty massive half-pound dog and drink combo. That’s the only factor that lost 1 Unilocal star away from 5 for this review. OTHERNOTES: How does it compare to the original KC Waffle Dog? It beats it quite substantially, due to the crusty waffle«bun» and superior Nathan’s Hot Dog within it.

I first tried a waffle dog at a Eat the Street-Kaka’ako event because my friends would not stop raving about it, so I just had to see what all the fuss was about. They were right to do so! Crisp waffle and tender meat with maple syrup drizzle: yum! A banana waffle with chocolate drizzle was offered during the chocolate themed event and it was nothing short of amazing, as well. My taste buds could not thank me enough after trying these two items. Definitely a must-try!

After reading rave reviews about this place on Unilocal,I decided to try it at ETS Dia De Los Muertos last night. …Yet another place that brought me back to my childhood. My reaction after taking the first bite into my waffledog: «This brings me back to my middle school & high school days.» My friend: «You had waffledogs at your school?» You see, it wasn’t exactly a waffledog back then. The one at school was made of pancake batter, & had a pork sausage link in the center. And, this waffledog tasted JUST like that(but at the same time, I’m not too surprised considering the batters are pretty similar). It was just great… it was a nice surprise after the disappointing taco I had just finished eating. Considering the line that was in front of this place last night, I’m surprised at how quick I got my order. And, $ 3 for a waffledog? Not bad. One thing I like most is that you get a choice of one of their many unique sauces. I couldn’t really see the sign though because there were sooo many little kids(with their parents) in front of me being picky about which sauce they wanted. I ultimately went with the garlic sauce which I was a little skeptical about at first, but it turned out to be a good decision. But I kind of wish I had chosen a more unique flavor though, just to liven up my experience a little bit… after all, it was JUST a waffle-wrapped hot dog topped with garlic mustard & I feel like I could’ve probably made that at home myself. Overall though, this place is great & that goes for the service too. And, yes I would definitely go back(& try it with a different sauce). 31 Unilocal Review Challenge: #28/31

Hands down the best waffle dogs you could get. My boyfriend and I attend every ETS event just to eat a few of these. Maple syrup was my favorite sauce although the Japan themed azuki bean syrup was also delicious. Friendly service and really good tasting food! Can’t wait for the next ETS event! Although I wish there was an actual location so we could eat it whenever we wanted. :)

So good! Saw these guys at Eat The Street Mililani. I opted for the maple syrup topping although they had a bunch of toppings including just regular ketchup and mustard. Pretty cheap too. I believe it was $ 3 for one.

Ate a dog at the recent Eat the Street event; it was okay; the olé KC Waffle dog is still the best? ;)

#90/365 Tried their waffle dog at Eat the Street and so far its the best i’ve had. I like that it was crispy and had ridges that make it more crispy. Another plus with having the ridges is that the sauces(ketchup, mustard, syrup, hot sauce, or their homemade spicy garlic aioli) actually stay on the dog; making it easier to eat on the go since you dont have to worry about dipping it in a sauce. As for their sauce, the spicy garlic aioli is a WINNER, its has a good spicy garlic flavor that is not too spicy for some folks. Their hot dog could be more flavorful(they probably use farmer johns?), but it was still good and went well with the waffle batter. Overall my fave waffledog :9.

Oh waffledog, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways! Your delicious waffle exterior, crisp and golden, baked not fried. Your delicious hot dog, a savory, juicy counterpoint to your crispy, sweetness. Your spicy garlic aoili. It is just so damn good. Your fabulous price of 2 for $ 5, I could easily wolf down 10 of you, even though one is perfectly filling.

Saw the Waffledog Company booth at Eat the Street, and my kids loved it. The waffles were made fresh, and they had an assortment of different syrup/sauces that you could add with your waffledog. Waffledog — 4 stars — they were selling one for $ 3 or two for $ 5, so of course, I have to get my money’s worth and bought two. Worked out well since I have to buy for both sons instead of having them fight for one. Service — 4 stars — You don’t find too many seniors working hard at the eat the street events. I give them a lot of credit, and hopefully I will be able to be as robust as they are when I reach that age(which will be in a blink of an eye). Made on a stick, it’s convenient to eat since there were not too many seats or tables at the event. My sons enjoyed eating this, and could easily carry and eat it while I walked around trying to find something for myself to eat.

Had this waffle dog for the first time at the Aliiolani craft fair back in December and I noticed they were at the Eat the Street events recently as well. I like the texture of the waffle on the outside and thought it was interesting that they had syrup available for people to use as well as common condiments like mustard and ketchup. I really enjoyed the spicy garlic mustard they had at the last ETS event! Be sure to check this place out if you ever get a chance.

This is a review for their booth at Eat the Street. The saying looks can be deceiving is so true here. Even though there was no crowded lines the waffledog here was great. The waffledog itself had a nice golden color. The batter used had just the right sweetness to it. They were super fast, we had our dogs in less than 2 minutes. This is sure to be a booth that we will come back to every Eat the Street.
