The best! You really can’t get good custard in the South, particularly at stands like this, which I grew up with in Ohio. This is an old favorite and I’m always so happy to see that not only is it still standing, but the quality is just as good as ever.

Always good ice cream. You can check the flavor online before going. Staff is friendly. I have been going for years, stopped for a while for no reason. Started coming back this summer. I forgot how good it was!

My husband took me here for ice cream on Memorial Day weekend. Although the Cuyahoga Falls location is right around the corner from our house, he wanted to take me to the original location. They were slammed(they usually are) and although we waited in a long line it moved fast! I had a small(huge) vanilla cone and my husband had a small strawberry sundae. We sat on a bench and people-watched while enjoying our treats. When I was 5 years old I lived down the street from this location — the custard today is EXACTLY the same as it was in the 1970s! In a world where businesses cheapen their ingredients, change their products, close, and cater to stock-holders, Strickland’s can be relied on to maintain their exceptional quality. The waitstaff is young, friendly and exuberant — the frenzied energy in the kitchen made me smile — everyone looked happy! I wish I knew if tips were accepted, there were no visible tip jars and we didn’t want to offend anyone by offering. Oh, by the way, the custard is made the original way using unique custard machines and hand-scooped into cones/waffle cones/cups. The custard is light, smooth, and creamy — no unpalatable ice crystal texture. It’s as if they froze flavored whipped cream. If you sign up for their emails(offered for individual locations) they will send you«Flavor of the Day» updates(these change every 3 days or so). Last night’s flavors were Peanut Butter and Fresh Banana.

I always enjoy the view here. You can see planes and helicopters landing and taking off and really close too. As far as the ice cream, its great and lots of flavors, great service too!

The prices are the only thing that makes me hesitate to go here over Handel’s. Strickland’s is a bit overpriced for what you get. For example, a small cup of soft serve is about $ 3. Every day at Strickland’s, there are 2 flavors of the day(soft serve). I usually like at least one of them. They tend to do one fruit flavor and one other(chocolate, oreo, peanut butter, etc.). I’ve never tried the other things on their menu because the flavor of the day is only there for a couple days so until there is something I’m not interested in, I will never try anything on their menu. Another plus to this particular Strickland’s is the airport across the street. If you go on a sunny Saturday, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll get to watch planes land and take off while you enjoy your ice cream.

Always love coming here. A great treasure in Akron. The fresh banana is literally the best flavor they sell in my opinion and I try to never miss it. They could load more bananas in it, but the flavor is still great. All their ice cream is fantastic, recently tried the butter pecan – yum!!! Never stop going to this spot. They should renovate the location to indoors like the Cuyahoga Falls location though. Sometimes not in the mood to eat ice cream in my car with friends when no seating is available.

Holy price is right! A small waffle cone which is around $ 3 is the size of most places’ larges! Not to mention they have great flavors. Highly recommend!

I have been coming to this Strickland’s since I was a little kid. An old tradition was coming up here after a long day at school, getting some banana ice cream in a waffle cone, and hang out with friends. This will always be my number one ice cream shop in my heart. Their banana ice cream is hands down the best ice cream you could ever imagine eating. I’ve been to some of the other locations, but something about the original just feels and tastes so much better.

Great for after the baseball game, a special treat with the family or a date with the boyfriend. This has been an iconic location since I’ve have been coming here regularly for at least 15 years. I even stop for a float or ice cream soda. Yum! It was sad when they closed the location in Brimfield as I used to go there for meetings with customers. But business is business and glad they didn’t close the original location!

How can this place only have 1 review!!! Bill got it right, this is an Akron institution, so how it has so little love hurts me. No worries Strickland’s I will help you out. Strickland’s has a very unique ice cream texture-wise. I’ll try to describe it, but it’s not easy without having you just try it. It is very stiff from the looks of it, but once you apply pressure, it gives way and is incredibly creamy. It’s incredibly different and it’s what separates Strickland’s from other ice cream joints in the area. As Bill said, this is the original. However, a few years ago someone discovered a few of these ice cream machines in someone’s basement or something and opened up a few new locations. They all serve the same ice cream, but something about going to the original makes it better. They serve vanilla and chocolate on the daily(vanilla is the better of the two) and 2 special flavors every day. I used to be on their email list for this info… My favorite is the grape, which is different for an ice cream, but it’s excellent. Their maple is also a dream. You could look at their calendar for the best sounding ones or just go and be happy with whatever they have that night, and I promise you will be.

This is the original Stricklands custard stand. Every day, they feature vanilla, chocolate, and a flavor of the day. Stricklands is an Akron institution. The blueberry milkshake includes real pieces of blueberry, which always get stuck in the straw as you try to drink the milkshake. There is something special about having chunks of fruit in your milkshake. The staff here is adept at speeding people through the line.
