This place was cute. Everything is handmade and most items have some kind of story about where they came from. Currently, they have a display of gorgeous nativity sets from all around the world. I’m not a Christmas person, but I did find myself swooning over them a bit. All kinds of scarves, mittens, hats, jewelry, wall-hangings. I loved the knit things. I wished that there were more in neutral or earthy colors as I would like them to be able to match my red coat. I ended up buying a pair of fleece-lined alpaca mittens from Bolivia in a sage green color(the most neutral they had). They have already changed my outlook on life this winter. I have never owned such warm, soft mittens. Other things which I was smitten with was an assortment of table cloths and blankets from India and Mexico. I will never be able to afford one but they were so beautiful. I would love to see more intricate jewelry – metal, glass, stone. They have a lot of glass beads and macramé. Which are great, but not what I’m looking to buy. I would love to see some fairly purchased native american jewelry. I would also love to see some pottery as I am always looking for beautiful pottery for gifts. Great place to Christmas shop or find a sweet, fairly priced indulgence for yourself.

The Market Path is a little gift shop in Highland Square that sells nothing but handmade, fair-trade items. When they first opened, they had tons of gorgeous jewelry and I made many purchases there. I also really liked the fact that each necklace I purchased came with a card that told me who the people were who made it and where they lived. They seem to have scaled back on the nicer jewelry and now sell mostly seed bead items. That’s fine, but I wish they still had the lampwork glass and metal necklaces that I saw when I first wandered in. The assortment of items is pretty diverse, but seems to always include purses/bags, toys, soap, chocolate, and Christmas ornaments. It’s definitely worth a visit… you never know what you might find.
