I was in Alameda for business and Bayside Grille was close by so I thought I’d check it out after reading the reviews. Being that it is in a health club, it smelled like Chlorine and the description of a snack bar is very accurate. Parking was a little tight for lunch time and it did feel a little odd going into the clubs main entrance to get to the restaurant. I wouldn’t give this place high marks for ambiance. I ordered the Bayside Burger with fries, and soda. The portions were plenty but nothing special. Personally, I thought for $ 10, the meal was overpriced for what you got. Service was great though and there is free WiFi if you were inclined to hang out there.

When what is basically the snack bar area of a health club aspires to be a restaurant in its own right, worthy of a trip for diners not visiting the club, it can be a tad hard to decide what standard to use. If I were a club member looking for a bite after a workout, this would certainly rate five stars compared to most similar facilities. As a stand alone restaurant, it merits three to four stars for its above average burgers, sandwiches, soups and specials. Fast friendly service. Obviously the location precludes much in the way of ambiance, so can’t judge them based on that.

Aw man! They had this rad buy-one-get-one coupon that made this place an indisputable, shining in all it’s glory 5 stars!!! …But it appears they’ve dissolved that offer. Guess it was only a matter of time, but it makes me sad! I’ll still try to go back w/out it, but I hope they bring it back! (Hint, hint guys!)

Free wi-fi, HDTV, and delicious food! What more could you want? I really love that this place has breakfast all day… really good breakfast(the Southwestern Omlette is to die for). The service is really friendly, too. I usually call ahead of time and pick up my food for lunch, but I am eager to try their Happy Hour specials. It’s a little tricky finding the place because it’s inside the Mariner Square Athletic Club, but all-in-all, it’s a nice place eat.

This place just opened in the upstairs area of the Mariner Square Athletic Club. It’s a bit unusual – a super casual restaurant open to the public in a private gym – but don’t let that deter you: the food is pretty good! My parents chose this place for Mother’s Day because they figured it’d be one of the less-packed Alameda establishments(as it’s new and void of foot traffic). They were right: we had the place mostly to ourselves, which meant it was quiet and calm through our entire meal. The restauranteurs are a husband and wife team; he cooked, and she served. Everything came out quick, and with a smile. My mother got a special-order spinach omelette which she described as, «The best one of these I’ve ever had.» I went with a simple cheeseburger and fries. When it came out I thought there could’ve been more fries, but by the time I’d finished eating I realized that the portion had actually been exactly right – one more fry would’ve been too many. The fry quality was average, but the burger was delicious! Big and juicy, dripping with sauce, just the way I like it. My step-father got the french dip but made no mention of his impression. From my angle it looked a little dry, but I was spying the un-dipped sandwich and I’m pretty sure that once it got dunked in the jus it was good to go. He *did* finish the whole thing, if that says anything. If you’re in the area and craving a low-key American lunch experience, Bayside Grille is a safe bet.
