C&M Upholstery And Fabrics

We started contacting a dozen upholstery shops from Contra Costa to the SF Bay Area. Upholstering much loved pieces of furniture is an expensive proposition. C & M is an amazing family-​owned business. Lisa and her father are wonderful to work with. We provided the fabric for our roll-​arm sofa, oversized chair and ottoman. The quality of work, price for all three pieces and pick-​up and delivery was reasonable — compared with other shops in the Bay Area.

We want everyone to know that our experience with C&M in re-​doing our sofa was fantastic. Starting right off with Lisa’s expertise in helping us in choosing from their large selections of fabrics, and she she also made sure that it would be well suited with our décor. In the end the «new» sofa was delivered with the highest quality of workmanship by Carlos and his team. Bravo C&M Upholstery and Fabrics!

Years ago I had a day bed/​couch completely redone, including the foam and was very happy with the results. When I recently moved and changed the décor I had four chairs reupholstered, including two midcentury, and the seats of 8 dining room chairs. I am pleased with the results. Nice and personal service provided.

Highly recommend C&M for furniture reupholstery! It was a true pleasure doing business with them. We had 2 of our dining room chairs damaged while in storage and Lisa was very helpful in helping us find just the right coordinating fabric to re-​upholster them and still look good with other remaining chairs. We are also very pleased with upholstery work Carlos did for us and how timely it was done. They are a very friendly and professional family run business, making it very clear they take pride in what they do.

After debating to replace my old falling apart chairs, I decided to save them and have them reupholstered instead. C&M had the best price and the fastest turn around time. They also picked them up and dropped them off. I was hoping that they would look good, but instead they look fantastic! The new foam and fabric on all 8 chairs really made a difference! I would definitely recommend this place!

Our experience with C&M was ideal. We had pillows created from chosen fabrics as well as fabrics we brought in. The results were perfect. The quality of craftsmanship was excellent and done in a timely manner.
We returned and ordered wooden blinds for seven windows in our home. We did the measuring and installation ourselves, but the results are spectacular! We love them. C&M were responsive and attentive in all the right ways. Lisa and Carlos are friendly, obliging, and know their products quite well. We love the fact that they are a small local business not dealing with numbers, but face to face interaction.
We will certainly use them in the future for any upholstery, window, or pillow needs. It is obvious they care about quality and craftsmanship. Something that is all but extinct in American business practices these days.

C&M did three massive bedroom draperies for us and they were gorgeous. Beautiful lines and clean folds. The patterns match up across the closures and they were a breeze to install. They’re even marvelous from the outside. I cannot recommend C&M enough!

We have had several things upholstered over the years with satisfactory results! The last was a outdoor 2seater swing with overhead canopy. It was done about 5 years ago by Amaral Co. We covered the expensive swing covering every year with a high quality outdoor cover during the winter. Last summer the canopy began to tear at the seams and we brought it in to what is now C&M to have it repaired. They simply sewed over the existing seams which tore open when we tried to put it back on the swing. We returned it and asked for a better repair. After waiting weeks for their sewer to return from vacation they repeated the same repair, sewing the existing seams tighter. By not opening the seams and putting a backing on the splitting seams the fabric had been diminished so that putting the canopy back on was impossible. I think this workmanship was shoddy and do not recommend them.

Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience with C&M. I brought in a set of mid-​century modern danish chairs I found on craigslist to be reupholstered. Though the manager was nice to work with, the price was great, and the turn around very fast, the actual job done was of extremely low quality. Protruding uneven staples could be seen and, even worse, felt on the bottom of the upper back of the chairs such that picking the chairs up to move them could cause cuts to people’s hands. On the seats of the chairs the padding was much, much too thick for the style of the pieces, and the fabric was not sufficiently tight so that the look was uneven and lumpy. Mid-​century modern furniture is not supposed to be overstuffed!
I had to take the chairs to another place to have the problems fixed, since I didn’t want them back in the hand of these folks. Though I fault myself for not doing a good job of researching potential upholsterers who would have better knowledge of how to deal with this style of furniture, I was shocked at the lack of any attention to detail or quality. I wouldn’t recommend this merchant to anyone.
