Review of Mariners Lagoon is slightly overdue. My group held its second annual Meet ‘n Greet with a BBQ picnic at this site on August 29, 2015. It’s about a ½ mile walk on the paved pathway from the Crab Cove Parking Lot($ 5.00 for parking on the weekends) to this spot. There is a lagoon in this park. The paved pathway will also take you to Crown Memorial Beach. First of all, I want to point out that the Google map with the question mark of Mariners Lagoon is inaccurate and does not show the correct location. I don’t know if Unilocal will correct the location from 5th& Central to the actual spot. I know where this park is because I live about a block from 5th& Central. Clicking on the Google map, one will notice a green patched area next to McKay Street. Where the blue pond is situated is the actual location of Mariners Lagoon. It depends on which way one is traveling on Central Avenue. If one is heading west on Central, turn left on McKay(can’t miss the Foster Freeze building on the corner). If one is heading east on Central, turn right on McKay. Head to the end of McKay and to the left is the parking lot entrance to Crab Cove. Mariners Lagoon is off the beaten path and is a hidden gem. It’s a quiet area with several picnic tables, benches and BBQ grills. Besides the view of SF, one can sit back and relax on the bench, watch people jogging by, walking on their own or with their dogs; read a book, listen to the sounds of the water fowls and/or just have a fun day in the sun(put that sunscreen on).

There’s a random lagoon off of crown memorial beach before crab cove. There are benches upon which to picnic upon and more benches from which one can sit and meditate, watch the water fowl, spy on passing dogs with their humans, read a book, etc. It’s nothing fancy, but never really seems crowded. I’ve passed it a couple of times, but never thought to check in here until I spotted the baby geese the other day :)
