My previous review of this event was written in the wee hours of Sunday morning about my experience on Saturday. The festival did not draw a lot of people and I believe I know the reason why. It was Fleet Week in SF and there were many baseball fans heading over to see the SF Giants in the playoffs. There’s no way this festival could compete with those events across the Bay. However, I did attend the event Sunday afternoon after the 3rd quarter of the 49ers game, leading 31 – 3.(There was no need for me to see the Bills getting an «old school» a** whippin… LOL.) Again, there weren’t a whole lotta people, but it was slightly better with the Bob Claire Orchestra performing. They were rockin’, jammin’ and singin’ some of that old school funk, blues, Motown sound, throwin’ in Let’s Stay Together by Al Green. Even had a little of Marvin Gaye«goin’ on in the house»…hey, hey, «picket lines and picket signs… don’t punish me with brutality… talk to me so you can see… what’s going on…» …“right on, right on”. Yep, JB was in the house with«I feel good», too. Anytime I hear JB in the mix… hey I wanna hear«gonna have a funky good time». And while the music was goin’ on, they should’ve have thrown in the Dramatics…“get up and get down, get up off of yo seat…“ Robert Raburn was there representing the BART system. I gave him an earful about the terrible restroom condition at the Fruitvale BART Station. He gave me his word that he will check into that situation and he also gave me a BART pen… I needed one of those pens as I broke the one I had from last year. There was a vendor by the name of Sharo who had really cute custom-made baby items for gift giving. They were unique in that they almost looked like cakes. Some of the local restaurant vendors were Calafia Taqueria, Otaez Restaurant and Soleil. Out of town vendors included Oliver Almond Company and Live-for-more Fudge, Inc. Otaez had agua frescas for $ 2.00 a glass… flavors — mango, horchata and strawberry. I asked the lovely señorita if she could serve it as a combination of mango and strawberry — and yes — she did. Since I also heard people raving about Soleil’s banana beignets, I decided to get some — $ 5.00 for a bowl of ten or so, dusted with plenty of powdered sugar. They were moist with the banana purée and I would rate them at about 3.5 stars. Sorry, but I prefer the ½ order of beignets from Café Jolie, which is served with sliced strawberries, chocolate ganache and powdered sugar. Overall, if it weren’t for the Bob Claire Orchestra being there, I probably would have left out of there after 15 minutes and head home.
