The place is a nice clean shoe store. BUTPREPAREDTOBEHUSTLED. If you come in the evening time, they will ask you to go around the detectors so they won’t have a higher quota of shoe sales to meet. They’ll also sneak in some. «oh those shoes look really cute on you and you don’t want to buy them?» or «They’re on sale right now, you should get them» remarks. I wanna shop in peace!

I saw on my phone app that a particular kind of shoe was in the store in a particular size. When we went there, the size was not there. But the sales woman looked it up on her computer and saw that it was at a nearby store and sent us there with a $ 4 off coupon that we could use with our $ 10 off coupon with a shoe on sale for $ 5 off. Yeah! Pays to keep an eye on line at this store.

Just a regular shoe store, nothing is hot about it. Except when it’s on sale like bogo day.

They are cheap, easy to get to, and have wide aisles for kids to run amok. There are lots of cute shoes, but they may not be available in your kids’ sizes. Still, you’ll find something. I don’t know why it takes so long to check out, but there is space for kids to run amok while waiting.

I don’t go here too often. Customer service is OK. A good place to shop for shoes you are only going to wear a few times(I’ve gotten shoes here that I wore to a wedding and never again). I hate buying Payless shoes because if you wear them enough, lint gets stuck to the bottom.

I hate buying clothing of any kind. Our housemate John wanted to get shoes at Payless at South Shore.(I still can’t call it «Townee Sahntre». Perhaps I could have adjusted were it spelled«Town Center». We are in the US after all!) I haven’t gone to a shoe store in ages. I remeber you’d go in, the sales person would measure your foot and then suggest something after your wishes. They’d have shoe horns and put on the shoe for you. They had these weird type of chairs to facilitate this process. Well, now it’s different. There are these huge shelves arranged according to size and gender. The different styles of shoes are in boxes randomly placed in the particular section. No rhyme or reason. It’s pretty much self service. The associate who was a darling Nigerian woman did ask if we wanted any assistance several times. We were pretty campy and all three of us seemed to enjoy the interaction. John got 2 pair and I got one. It was buy one, get the second one free. Overall I came out with a pleasant feeling. And I got something I wanted at a good price. That’s why I give this place 5 stars.

The thing I love about Payless is that the shoes wear out just about the time I get tired of looking at them. Also, they are all made of thin bits of plastic so there’s no breaking-in period or blisters like you get from«good» leather AND no cows die for your feet. The thing I hate about Payless is that different locations vary widely — Southshore is more granny to downtown Oakland’s more trendy selection — and that they almost never have stock of the cutest shoes in my size. Hello, 9 is the American average! — stock a couple more pairs.
