I love this place! Me and my co-workers come here about twice a month. The half salad is huge! I always end up getting it. Something else we order is the half fires half onion ring basket. Best fried onion rings in Alameda! :) Ive tried the BLT before… very good! Every plate can feed at least two people, for the price this is a great deal! The servers are always friendly. I love this place!

Been to this place a few times and I have to say. It’s pretty damn good. If you come here, you have to order the lemon pepper chicken wings and double cheeseburger.

We love this place! We come here almost once a week. We’ve been coming here for a couple years now. The food is always good! Plenty of food for a good price! What REALLY shines is the service. Everybody is ALWAYS extremely helpful! They always greet us with a smile. Very well done! They have quite an extensive menu! Burgers and fries, but pasta and other items too!

I give this place 4 stars(part because of huge portions) only for what it is. This is a diner type restaurant with American style food/comfort food. So, I am comparing The Red Onion in that category. It is one of the better tasting(food) diners out there. I believe good diners are a dying breed. I had a double cheese burger with cheddar and grilled onions and side of beer battered onion rings. The food did not disappoint and was actually pretty good. One thing to note is they serve huge portions. I only finished half of my burger and half of my onion rings. Not the place to go if you are watching the calories but, if you want to cheat on your nutrition in a relaxed diner with good food that will fill you up… The Red Onion is a good choice.

Good place to start your day with their breakfast. Lots to choose from and staffs are ready to take care of all your needs. Our group of 5 had a good experience. Also, got good selections of desserts to go and love their macaroons. Thank you! Finding a parking space may be a challenge though(fyi)

This is an awesome place to get a burger. I don’t really like places that itemize their menu and not include fires with a burger, the Red Onion is the exception. Their large order of fries was huge, tasted great and was only around five bucks. The fires were enough for my three person family. The burgers seem to be made with care and tasted great! Overall this is a place that I look forward to going to again! I would recommend it to anybody that lives in the area.

This is our go to when out family has to get their burger fix. Everything we’ve tried, we recommend: the onion rings, patty melt(sour dough bread), Hawaiian burger, spinach garlic mushroom burger, garlic fries and the classic burgers. Chipotle aioli sauce on the side — always! To top off the great food their service is exceptional. Their parking isn’t the worst on Park Street, but sometimes it take a couple go arounds to find a spot.

Blue Chs Burger — nice size pattie, beef slightly on the salty side, generous amount of blue chs, fresh lettuce and tomatoes. Garlic Fries — Plenty of garlic with no exaggeration, I wouldn’t say the fresh type of garlic, this one seems like it sits in an already chopped ahead garlic container. Burger and fries $ 18. Slightly damaging to the wallet, i will come back but if the prices go any higher I will pass.

I was stuck in between giving this place three or two stars, but I’ll stick with two. The only reason why I gave this place two stars is the encounters I had to face during my visit here. The food was great! I’ll come back here just for that, but the servers seemed a little off to me likes they didn’t know what they were doing. I asked the server when looking over the menu how much the were macarons. He said they’re about $ 1.59 a piece, but he can cut me a deal and charge 10 for $ 10 plus tax, so that made my friend and I excited. So, we went up to pay and said we’ll come back for the macarons. Once we came back, they greeted us with«back so soon?» Then we placed our macaron orders. It was hard to know which ones we wanted because there were no signs stating the flavors, we had to memorize them after the server told us and went off to help other customers. Another server came to help us and did not know the flavors at all. He kept saying«I think it’s strawberry». We got pretty annoyed and the server seemed annoyed, too. So we picked our flavors and once we hit the register our total was Almost $ 20! We told the sever that he told us that it would be $ 10+tax and he denied it and I know I’m not in the wrong cause my friend heard him say it, too! So I was just like whatever it’s okay, and gave him my debit card and left. My friend counted the macarons in the car and said that they gave us 11 instead of 10 so I asked her to check my receipt to see if they charged us for 11 macarons, and guess what?! They charged my card $ 18 for a tip!!! I was angry because not only did they lie about the 10 for 10 deal, but they also charged me an extra $ 18 for tip?! No thank you! So we went back, and I think it was the owner who came up and fixed the problem and gave me back my $ 18 in cash. It was such an annoying experience but I would come back for the food, maybe just order to go and check twice on the order and receipt!

Was up and early this morning and I was in search for some grub! I’m new to the area so when I first came across the sign I was little wary due to my personal dislike of onions — I know I know it’s strange and I assume you can request them without and no one should be afraid of onions in your coffee … Turns out there are lots of stuff to order without using their signature theme veggie… I was even able to substitute spinach for the bacon in my omelette so this place is cool in my book !!

Last weekend I visited The Red Onion with my boyfriend. It’s a large establishment with an American burger theme. I’m happy to see that they welcome both vegetarians and meat lovers. I ordered the Original Burger with cheddar cheese, grilled onions, and the works. It was good, and just about hit the spot. Of course, I frequent In N Out and The Habit a lot as well, so I’m no newbie when it comes to getting a good burger to satiate a burger appetite. My boyfriend also ordered the Original Burger with the works but no cheese. We also ordered the Half and Half, consisting of their fries and onion rings. BOY, the helpings are big here. The taste is fine, though I was hoping for some kind of special sauce or something. I like condiments, so I heaped on a good helping of ketchup on my burger. We definitely got our money’s worth and full bellies! The staff was really nice as well, and I especially think it’s a great idea that they don’t present you the bill at the end of the meal so as not to be «pretentious.» They actually encourage you to enjoy your time while you eat and chat. So far I think that this restaurant is A-OK in my book. It’s a nice, casual lunch date spot. However, I think I’ll come back for an updated review after trying out a different, maybe special burger on the menu. I haven’t been wowed but I think this place has potential. :)

Great service by a young man with curly brown hair, I didn’t catch his name but you can tell he loves his job. Food was nice and they even turned my pancakes into a Mickey Mouse. Loved it.

I travel a lot… and I most definitely will eat here again. The Red Onion is a fantastic restaurant! The food, staff, price, and atmosphere was great. Jeff, our server was engaging and friendly. And, our second time there, Buffy was the same. Both checked on us frequent enough, but no so much to interfere with our meal. The amount of food was over-whelming. Both times i boxed more than half my meal. For those prices… i highly recommend it. I travel a lot… and I most definitely will eat here again.

I frequent Red Onion since it is nearby and fairly priced for the quality. With some work, this could be a gem in Alameda. For now, it’s passable and not very special. This one-star review is 100% about service — I believe the line staff are well intentioned but that management is not guiding them well or providing the right tools for them to be great at their job. I hope this can be a sort of open letter to the owner(s). Your team is overwhelmed and inexperienced. It’s clear that you do not have a seasoned(or competent) restaurateur running the show or training your staff. Red Onion has a strong, and interesting, vibe of «going it alone» but it is missing the mark in many regards. I highly recommend you hire a restaurant consultant. There are MANYEASYCHANGES that they could implement regarding staff efficiency and marketing. You almost certainly would recoup the investment within a mater of weeks.

SPICYCHICKENBURGER. I’ve been going to this location ever since they opened up. Their spicy chicken burger is SO delicious. I like to get mine with grilled onions. Their grilled onions aren’t like the usual onions. It’s cut into pieces and completely caramelized. My mouth is drooling as I type this. Their service is always on point. Super attentive and welcoming. Parking SUCKS! It’s right on Park St so your only choice is street parking. Strangely, it’s never packed so you’re always promised seats. The space is really big and gives off a diner feel. The prices is average and for the cost, you get a lot of food and great quality.

Great neighborhood spot! You can have a great and filling breakfast anytime or… have a massive juicy hamburger and a zillion French fry options. Good place for by yourself or with a group! I will be back!

Date: 7÷11÷2015 Time: 4:45PM69° sunny and warm After the terrible time I had at that cosmetology school on Central Avenue, I was hungry for a late afternoon lunch. Since it was my sister’s treat, and I have always wanted to try The Red Onion for quite a while, that’s where we ended up going for late lunch/early supper. I have never bookmarked this place, but I have been by there numerous times — be it walking by, on public transportation or riding in a car. Their specialties are burgers, fries and milkshakes. They also serve breakfast, sammies, a few pasta dishes, salads, desserts, etc. They also have menu items on their senior citizens menu. Okay, there will be a return trip in the future for breakfast and the unhealthy greasy chili cheese fries. The place was pretty much empty when we stopped in. The first thing I noticed in the display case by the cash register was all the luscious, yummy dessert staring at me. I need will power to resist the dessert — touch my lips; they going to my hips… lol. Eats & beverages: Ravioli(½ order, 8 raviolis) with tomato based meat sauce and two warm garlic breadsticks. Grilled mahi mahi and side salad. Two glasses of lemonade. Lemonade and bread sticks were on point(4 star). Mahi mahi was grilled a tad long — nicely seasoned, but slightly dry(3 star). Ravioli had too much tomato sauce flavor. It could have been better with other seasonings — garlic, parmesano and parsley and a few splashes of olive oil(3 star). Ambiance: Casual décor, spacious with plenty of tables and chairs; one booth for a group of four/five. Few flat screen TV’s. Dim lighting and natural light from the outside. Waitress was friendly, but attentive part of the time. She said we could sit as long as we like. When we were ready to leave, head to the front and pay either by cash or debit card. As we were about to leave, I couldn’t resist what was in the display case. Ooh la la… an assortment of different flavored macarons and at a price of $ 1.59 each. The flavors I selected were ube, mango and salted caramel. Other macarons flavors: raspberry, green tea, chocolate. Drawback: Street parking on Park Street can be difficult on the weekends. Public transportation close by(AC lines 20 and 21). Final thoughts: I am not a glutton for punishment; thus, nobody will see me doing that burger patties challenge that is listed on the backside of their menu.

I heard great things about this place, so when me and the hunny were looking for a place to have lunch near downtown I had to stop by the Red Onion. When we got there we were able to find a parking spot right out front which was awesome! Once we entered the cashier said we could sit anywhere where we saw menus on the table. The place was empty with the exception of a couple sitting near the Christmas tree. The first thing I thought was a little alarming was the fact that they have two full blown menus for breakfast and lunch/dinner. How could you possibly make so many dishes well in one kitchen? After staring at the menu for about 5 minutes, I decided on the Meat Ravolis and my hunny got the porkchop meal. I asked the waitress what kind of me are in the Ravolis and she said she didn’t know, they’re frozen and they cook them. Foolish me, after hearing her say that I still ordered the Ravolis with extra cheese. Shortly after we ordered the waitress brought our food. The Ravolis didn’t have cheese or extra cheese anywhere in sight. I asked for a side of cheddar cheese and tried to enjoy my Ravolis, but I couldn’t. The Ravolis tasted over cooked and under seasoned. I found myself eating my husband’s seasoned waffled fries. The customer service was good, but I wish the waitresses would have been a little more attentive while we were ordering. I think I would have been safe if I would have ordered a burger with seasoned fries or something like that. Don’t go to a dinner with a million things on the menu and try to get fancy!
