All my sashimi was noticeably frozen… fail. I will say all the employees were very nice. I just wish the food was better.

I’ve been to all the sushi restaurants in Alameda, and this one is my favorite. It’s close to where I live and the food is good. I usually order uni and scallop nigiri and a hot sake. They also have sake kama that I think is the best in the area. The other sushi places in Alameda are good, but in my experience, this one is the only consistently good place.

I used to like this place, but the last two times were terrible. The fish and ginger was old, the miso soup tasted like hot water as they must have skimped on the, well, miso… deep down were four minuscule pieces of tofu… and the gyoza was hard and deep fried… just more like Chinese than Japanese food. Sorry, but just not very enticing anymore. On the plus side, the owners/waitress are very nice, the place has a great atmosphere and is friendly all around… but the food is not what it was two years ago. I revised it to one star from two stars as I had diarrhea after I posted the review above!

This place was recommended by a good friend. I have to say, this place is quite small and cozy. Awesome pictures of Japanese art work and customers all over. Nothing too fancy about this place. Customer service was good. The waitress checks up on us and refilled our water without request. Ordered: Chirashi, rainbow roll, and vegetable tempura. Chirashi($ 22): Delicious bowl of assorted sashimi with sushi rice. I love how the sushi rice was tasted with the right amount of rice vinegar. It wasn’t overpowering or lack of the vinegar at all. FRESH sashimi! Rainbow roll($ 13): They actually wrap the seafood around the roll. Getting every component when biting each piece. Vegetale tempura($ 14): It was good but not worth the price. Overall: Good experience, I would definitely come back. (-1) for overpricing little items

Long over due but I enjoyed this place. While their miso soup could have used more flavor. I loved the bento meals. Nice big portions and non greasy tempura. The atmosphere is very Japanese like too and the people who ran the restaurant were a group of jolly, middle aged Japanese folk. I’ll stop by again if the opportunity comes up.

Came here for lunch and indulged in the chicken and tempura bento and shared a unagi roll with a friend. The miso soup was delicious… not overly salty, sweet just the perfect balance… the salad had a nice mayo-based dressing which was really yummy… tempura light and delicious and chicken was good. I prefer a char/grilled flavor to my chicken but it was more of a teppanyaki-style and nicely cooked with a light sauce… not overly sweet or smothered Unagi roll was yum — sushi rice was perfectly cooked, seasoned with avocado and unagi with a hint of sauce… will have to order the sushi next time. Service was great and friendly… will definitely return… best sushi place along Webster!

Foiled again by Unilocal reviews! Finding a good sushi joint in norcal is a difficult measure. Of course there are places like Yume or Kusakabe but one can’t eat super luxurious meals every day could they? So at this moment, I’m looking for a more down to earth neighborhood sushi joint, hopefully run by Japanese people, but it’s proving to be unbelievably hard. First, what is up with people calling this place«authentic» and«the best sushi ever?» As soon as I sat down, I heard the waitress ajumma arguing in Korean with one of the other staff members and knew I made a mistake. It was too late and we were too hungry to get up and leave but I still had the hope it won’t be terrible. Now, I’m not saying all Korean/Chinese owned Sushi joints are automatically bad. But most of the times they really cut corners and don’t serve sushi the Japanese way, which happens to be the way I enjoy it. Even though I had my doubts, I decided to try some nigiri — hotate, hirame, hamachi, uni, and couple others I can’t remember — and because of our lack of faith in the nigiri, we got a roll as well. The sushi rice was all wrong. It was so sticky, packed so tightly, and didn’t have a good balance of sugar and vinegar. It was almost just kind of like regular rice. For the roll, we got the Cherry Blossom roll which was $ 12 ish but kind of tiny. They really skimped on the fish that goes on top, and they had this bright red tobiko on top which didn’t positively add to the flavor. I guess another sign of a place being inauthentic is the pages and pages of lion-king-49’s-crazy-spider whatever rolls. Anyways, the nigiri weren’t indelible, but like I said earlier, the sushi rice was not so good. Definitely something I would not want to pay for. We were still hungry so I added a spicy tuna roll thinking no one could mess this up. Again, it wasn’t bad but the rice was too«thick» making it hard to hold down your rice without a sip of water. In the end, we paid close to 60 dollars but were still hungry. It was honestly overpriced for what we got.

Loved this sushi spot. Looks authentic, fresh fish, great choice of rolls and nigiri. Cherry blossom roll is my favorite now. Takes a while for food to be served, because it’s busy here at dinner time.

Food is really authentic. Very nice service especially Patty. She’s all smiles and very attentive. She gives stellar service to customers! The owner is also very friendly. The sushi chef is always smiling. He is good to see at the front because he has a smiling face!

Yokohama’s a Japanese restaurant, but they definitely pride themselves on their sushi. And I gotta say, they got that game down pat. Lots of different varieties on the menu, and it’s all pretty fresh. Not a huge fan of their other stuff though. The chicken teriyaki was mostly veggies and it was just so-so. Go for the raw fish.

This is our go-to sushi place on the island! First off, order the spicy tuna — it is the BEST we have ever had! We have also had a bunch of other rolls on a regular — crazy horse and hot night. The place is small and cozy, and family owned. Sometimes there is a long wait, depending on how busy they are, but the servers are always nice, and sometimes being out edamame if the kitchen gets backed up. I know some people complain about the size of the rolls, but QUALITY over QUANTITY, I say. They’re not the size of Sushi House, but in terms of flavor and fish quality, they definitely win. They’re also priced really well, so we just end up ordering a few more rolls anyway.

This place is the real deal. It’s a small cozy place that makes me feel like I’m on vacation in Japan. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and egg nigiri(tamago) and a broccoli roll. The broccoli role was just broccoli and rice so I wouldn’t order that again but the nigiri and the chicken were amazing. I can’t wait to come back here and try all the other rolls on the menu(corn dog roll? Get out of town!). Great place to grab Japanese food when you are in Alameda :)

Yokohama’s Golden Gate Bridge is what enticed my desire to come here. I’ve only been to a few sushi houses that had a decorative sushi boat option for a set price. Kudos to this one having wooden bridges instead. The cost of the bridge doesn’t vary with how many people are eating from it, and there are three different kinds all $ 48 each(the price does go up seasonally I believe). No matter which one you choose, it’s for a great price. In comparison to other«sushi boats» I have tried, this was the cheapest.(We’ve spent as much as $ 60 – 80 in the past for two people alone!) And the quality of the sashimi and nigiri that’s plated is very fresh. On top of the bridge, my family and I ordered 3 deluxe bento boxes to share(dinner time) each priced $ 22.50. You have to choice of 2 main entrees in your box and it comes with salad, rice, miso soup, 3 pieces of tekka maki, and 3 pieces of cucumber maki! ~ All pretty decent.

I came here last week for the first time and was thorough impressed with the quality of food and service. The restaurant décor is quite homey, especially with the customer pictures under the glass table top. It’s a pretty small restaurant, and would be perfect for small groups. The staff checked up on us a few times in the most helpful and uninterruptive way. My friends and I did family style and ordered the bay bridge, crazy monkey roll, and the creamy seafood appetizer. The appetizer was totally a whimsical order, and it turns out that we loved the dish. I dont know how else to describe it than the topping of a lion King roll, but with different seafood. The crazy monkey roll had a great combination of fresh fish and house sauces and I would definitely reorder it next time. The bay bridge(and any of their other bridges) is a bargain! You get so much food, including 9 pieces of fresh, high quality sashimi. The nigiri selection was very interesting and different; we definite tried some new seafood critters. Overall, I had a great experience and would recommend it!

Yokohama is a Korean owned Japanese/Sushi restaurant located right at the end of Webster. What prompted a visit was the Bridge Combos I saw on the Unilocal photos from here. Ordering ala carte with sushi most times is sufficient but it adds up quickly. And usually«Omakase» secretly means«break yourself fool!», as the check comes and my eyes widen looking at the total bill. But with a «boat» or in Yokohama’s case a «Bridge», I get everything I want at a set price of $ 48! That being said, my wife and I shared the«Alameda Bridge» which included a dragon roll, 6 large nigiri pieces, about 9 shashimi pieces, a tempura roll, California roll, gyoza, miso soup and salad. The quality was excellent. The amount is more than enough for two people. My previous experiences with sushi in Alameda for the most part haven’t been good but I must say Yokohama changed that and I plan to return very soon.

1÷17÷15: Sushi wasn’t very fresh. Place felt dead despite a constant stream of locals who knew the waitresses by name. Food, specifically the sushi, really isn’t as good as competitors. 1. Hot Sake Sho Chiku Bai Large $ 8: No brand given. Tastes clean and light. Maybe not the most intense flavor out there. I suspect for true sake aficionados might be dull, but was warm and comforting for me. Their«large» size is somewhat more than most restaurants, but my date and I easily finished it. 6⁄10. 2. Edamame(free): A little dry, and slightly stale. Nothing special. 4⁄10. 3. Combination 2 Prawns & Veggies Tempura $ 9.95: Excellently fried batter. I would say this is somewhere between American-style light battering that is served ubiquitously here and the Japanese ultra-crispy heavier batter that I’ve had in Japan. The shrimp is nice and big too. You get for the vegetables the typical broccoli, squash?, potato, and carrot. 6⁄10. 4. Saba(Mackerel with garlic paste) Sushi $ 4.50: Very dry. So dry that the fish is flaking a bit. Also abnormally salty. One of the worst mackerel sushi’s I’ve ever had. 2⁄10. 5. Sake(Fresh salmon) Sushi $ 4.50: Clearly not fresh. A little soft and very slightly fishy. Not horrifying though – still tastes okay. 4⁄5. 6. Baked Lobster(roll) $ 12.95: Tastes okay but the lobster is totally tiny(Smaller than small frozen shrimps) and very overcooked. Pretty crappy lobster. Not like I expected much for $ 13, but it was definitely worse than what I thought they were gonna give for $ 13. Overall tasted good, but ain’t no way to get a lobster fix. Too much $ for what it is. I suspect the Bakes Scallop would be a better choice for a similar taste. 4⁄10. So, food is okay, with the tempura actually being pretty good. But the sushi is crap – and I got my 2 favorites too! And since this is clearly a sushi restaurant, well, they don’t get a good score then. That said, I would have rounded up a 2.5 to a 3, but the place just felt dead. Not a good atmosphere. So, I’ll leave it at… 2⁄5. #Japanese #sushi
