Is Across the Street Pub four stars across the board? No. It is not. But that’s okay. It’s a neighborhood tavern. And I hold, as such, it only needs to do a couple of things really well to earn my repeat business. Because four stars means that not only will I return, but I’ll be looking forward to my next visit. That said, I’ll be sticking to the wings and the beer. The wings are excellent. In my original review, I said good things about the«not responsible» wings which are a step up in heat, but also a different flavor profile from the traditional hot wings. The traditional wings are also solid. Ordering them crispy and extra wet is never a bad idea. I still love the sauce. On this recent visit, I also got to try the orange ginger wings, which I did begrudgingly. But I have to admit I was a fan of those too and all the bright-hot ginger flavor they brought to the party. As far as taverns go, ATSP has an impressive tap list. We were drinking pitchers of Ithaca Flower Power, and that’s always delicious. But they also had some Founders on tap, a beer from Druthers, and a few other notable selections. It is refreshing to see a tap list that goes beyond Sam Adams at a neighborhood joint. I was cautiously optimistic about the house-made skinny dippers, which were anything but skinny. They were potato skins, loaded with cheese and bacon. But they are skippable. As are the mozzarella sticks with melba sauce. The pizza program could be easily improved by buying dough from one of our local Italian bakeries, and even charging more money for a pie if needed. But it’s really one of the weaker things on the menu. If you are compelled to get one, I’d suggest loading it with as many flavorful toppings as possible. Our pie with bacon, jalapeño peppers, and sausage was the tastiest of the bunch. Perhaps I’m a bit biased since I live in the neighborhood. But I’m thrilled to have a comfortable, classic Albany pub, to grab a decent beer and great basket of wings. It’s crowded enough as it is, so perhaps I should be glad that more people don’t love it.

I have a lot of dinning experience and this place is the absolute worst. We had a party of like 45 with a day and one half notice, when I got my order of onion soup, wings and salad and was done eating it was like another hour for the rest of the group got theirs .The food was typical«BAR» food nothing special and I do believe it was one cook in the back struggling to put it together never again at this hole in the wall. The two waitresses used common lined note pads to take the order it was totally unorganized and nowhere near semi-professional. My overall rating is Ehhhhhh.

The 70s called and they want their pub back. When I was there, the bar was hopping. After sampling several appetizers, the pizza, and a house salad my wife ordered, I’m at a loss as to Across the Street’s popularity. Everything I had was mind numbingly mediocre, with the of the exception wings, which are good. The pizza is made using processed, insipid, gummy dough disks, replete with tiny dimples which(god forbid) prevent the crust from rising in the oven. It’s topped with a flavorless orange cheese and if you dare to get the pizza, load it up with toppings to hide the crust and cheese. You’ll then at least have a fighting chance at something un-bland. This is a neighborhood joint, no one is driving in from very far to come here, and perhaps Across the Street’s popularity is due to loyal longtime regulars. A quick scan around the room reveals an older clientele, whose palates fondly recall simpler days when an iceberg lettuce salad with two slices of pale tomato and canned black olives was considered haute cuisine. Across the street will make for an acceptable consolation prize if you’re in the area, and are craving wings and a beer, but if your eyes stray elsewhere on the menu, expect to be underwhelmed.

Among our group of about a dozen people gathered to explore the building blocks of a classic tavern, there has been little positive written about the Across the Street Pub. Its name likely connotes the focus of its customer base. With that in mind… The highlight of our feast has been reported as being the wings. They have been graded with an A due to their crispiness and flavor. The pizza earned a C+ when loaded with toppings, but with little or no additions it only got a D. The mozzarella sticks by themselves were a solid C and the raspberry sauce’s lack of higher viscosity warranted a C-; yet the two paired together oddly rose to a C+ only due to the relatively high raspberry flavor of the watery sauce. Skinny Dippers(potato skins), while not normally included in the tavern food-trifecta exploration, could have contributed bonus points to improve the overall grade of the ASP. Unfortunately, they also, tended to lower the overall average grade earning a generous C-. The draft beer offerings drew a B+ with a limited but worthy offering of locally brewed beers in addition to the American mass produced beers. All of which go well with the numerous TVs filled with sports broadcasts. The final average grade for the ASP after appropriate weighting of the various categories is «Meh, I’ve experienced better.»(Our group is probably ruining the tavern curve!)

Across the Street Pub is a great place to come for a very limited type of experience — wings and drinks with friends. On a recent trip I sampled a few types of appetizers and pizza, and the wings were really the only selling point. We tried hot, not responsible(allegedly a super hot flavor), garlic parm, and orange ginger. Some of the wings were on the small side, but they were crispy and had a nice level of sauce. Orange ginger was surprisingly bright and well flavored. The ‘not responsible’ wings were a step up in spice from the regular hot and had a little more smokiness to their heat, but I could have comfortably eaten a much hotter wing. The garlic parm sauce was creamy and thick. Our group also tried some pizza, which wasn’t well received. The cheese was a strange thick orange layer, and the crust and toppings were adequate but nothing remarkable. We also tried mozzarella sticks with Melba, which were on the bland side with a thin breading and a very watery, syrupy Melba sauce that left much to be desired. We also tried the homemade skinny dippers(potato skins) — without any bacon, they were fairly plain and lacked salt. Highly recommend the wings, but nothing else on the menu really stands out. Decent draft beer list, including some local beers like Druthers.

This pub is a neighborhood favorite and it looks like the locals have been keeping the wings under wraps. The wings at Across the Street Pub are worth coming back for. I would cross multiple streets for it! The interior is juicy and skins were crunchy. The not responsible wings were spicy but not unbearable, which makes them ideal for washing down with a cold beer. Another favorite around the table were the Garlic Parmesan wings. Usually these wings come with a dry rub, but the sauce here is buttery, garlicky and creamy. Everything else served was okay. The pizza dough serves as a good vessel for toppings but the plain cheese was a bit of a disappointment. The mozzarella sticks were alright but didn’t have that satisfying melty hot cheese when you bite into it. There are multiple tv’s in the pub which is a must for watching sports, the beer list is decent and it’s family friendly establishment. Wings. The wings!

This is my second visit to Across the Street Pub. The first was for lunch and I had the spinach salad that was pretty good. My second visit was for Unilocal 3rd Thursday Tavern Time where we sampled mozzarella sticks, various chicken wings, skinny dippers, and pizzas. My daughter had the chicken fingers, crispy fries, chocolate milk and ice cream with chocolate sauce and she gave it two thumbs up. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the chicken and fries tasted. I also ordered the house salad and it is all iceberg lettuce of which I’m not a fan. I did not sample the wings or skinny dippers and I’m not a mozzarella sticks connoisseur though the couple bites I had were tasty. I had a slice of pizza with green peppers, onions, and mushrooms. It was pretty tasty though it looks like they add some cheddar cheese to the mix. The dough I would venture is not homemade but it stood up well to the toppings. I would go back for a sandwich, it’s a great neighborhood pub.

Better than I thought it would be. Actually it was nice. It has an extensive menu with pub favorites and more. GREATWINGS! Monday night is 50 cent wing night and well worth it. But they charge you 50 cents for blue cheese… come on give me a break. I’d go back.

Great little pub with a fair beer selection … Slim on the IPA“S but overall fair selection with about ten taps & several domestic bottles. I did not have the Wings, but … Being from Buffalo, they looked & smelled proper !! I will order the wings if I find myself there again. I had the special for Supper which was an open face Roasted turkey dinner. Price was fair at $ 8.75. Came with soup or salad, I opted for salad which was put together very well ‚& was very fresh & good. Dinner was huge. I went for the Turkey dinner because I had been driving for a couple of days, eating junk food on the road, & was in need of a good meal. The Turkey was very good, cooked & carved in house, served with Broccoli(good), Mashed potato(Instant) Gravy(tasted canned, that I didn’t get, because the Turkey tasted like it was roasted in house) & cranberry. All in all, It was a satisfying meal that could have been great with real mashed potato & gravy. 3.5 stars on that meal … 4.25 Stars on the overall. It really was a nice place with nice staff & Patrons. I would go back for sure !!

Great place. It’s a bar and restaurant — but for lunch or dinner you can bring children as seating is away from the bar. The wings are the BEST! Mild, hot, bourbon glazed, garlic parm, orange ginger & not responsible are their flavors. Bourbon glazed is my absolute favorite. Service has mixed reviews. First time there we had very good service. Last time, had to constantly look for our waitress and it was not busy at all. Despite that, can’t wait to go back.

I found myself in Albany this week and I was looking for a place to grab some wings and maybe a Guinness. I ended up here on a Tuesday night, and got myself some«not responsible» wings, which are supposed to be the hottest they have. They had good flavor, but not nearly as hot as I expected with the name«not responsible. I also had the steak fries, which were good. The Guinness must flow there, because it was a good pint. All of them. The staff was friendly. I will stop back in there next time I’m in the area.

Trivia night on Tuesdays at 7 pm is always fun — bring a mixed age team for best results! Great specials, friendly service. Family friendly. Nice bartenders and servers. Only deduction was the slowness in cleaning tables — you get to sit across from 2 dirty booths for practically your entire visit which is off-putting. However, could have just been an off night in that regard because we come here fairly often and that was the first time that happened. Known for their wings. This place has been around forever and is still relevant — great place to go after a game, with your team or group, with the family, etc. Bar is separate from dining area so families can feel at home. Bartender works the rectangular bar like a real pro — among the best I have seen — nobody is sitting there waiting for a drink or a refill — he is very good.

My first time at this friendly neighborhood bar. Everything was above and beyond what you expect. Great food and a good crowd… but not crowded. The bartender was on point. I didn’t see anyone waiting or trying to get his attention. He seemed to have a sixth sense of when you were 2 to 3 sips away from finishing a drink, he was asking if you needed another. Food was great and the portions were huge. Oh, and I noticed how clean everything was. I was impressed.

We were out and about shopping and looking for a local spot to get lunch. I’d been to Across The Street Pub before for a beer and had a sandwich which I remembered was pretty good, but today I was craving wings. We got there and service was great as I remembered so we’re sat and each ordered the chicken bruachetta paninis but I had a taste for wings too so we ordered 10 as an app. The wings came out and it was on! We both nearly forgot about the paninis which arrived shortly after the wings(at our request.) As good as the paninis were, the wings were clearly the star. We both wished we’d just ordered 20 and called it a day. Gotta be among the top 5 wings in the capital district. Judge for yourself and Enjoy!

Got into Albany a bit after the dinner hour. Had Unilocal locate a number of spots for dinner in the area. I picked this one. This is a sweet, local pub that’s pretty roomy inside. The Guinness was poured and was wonderful. Wings were their Garlic/Parmesan style, these were done very well but needed some additional heat. The waitress was very nice. Unfortunately, that was as good as it got. Food was sub par. I shared a Philly Cheese Steak that was pretty rare and bland. It just needed some salt and a different cheese. It was more like a roast beef sandwich. I’d possibly go back for a Guinness and something other than a Philly Cheese.
