Amazing Wok

NASTY!!! Ordered chicken with garlic sauce combo platter delivered to hotel room tonite. food was run of the mill chinese take out, …until I found a birds feather about two inches long in my container that food came in! Called restaurant and they sent mgr. over to make right. (mgr also doubles as delivery driver) He claimed it was only a chicken wing feather! I reminded him I did not order chicken wings. There was obviously a problem.(language barrier being one of them) He then starts taking picture of feather and then rummaged thru garbage can. He offered a five dollar bill on thirty dollar meal, I told him to keep his money and beat it! He then proceeds to lobby of hotel with stacks new menusfor front desk, that I made sure wound up in trash, where his food also belongs. The mgr of hotel assured me he would not refer amazing wok from here on out. I guess I was the lucky one. Also, decided to hit albany dept of health website and check out amazing wok… it was not pretty. NUMEROUS VIOLATIONS, with lots of re inspections for all types of nastiness. Check for yourself. Eaters beware, go somewhere else for take out, you will not be sorry. Many other options out there, none that could be any worse!!! Learn from my misfortune! My first review of any restaurant, unfortunately is not a good one. Good luck.

I ordered a standard sesame chicken combo w rice last night, and i dont know what the hell i got, but i highly doubt it was chicken. The «chicken» was paper thin and seemed to consist of little more than whatever it was fried in, and sauce. It chewed like rubber and i had to spit about half of it out because it wouldnt break down in my mouth to anything less than a ball of stringy mystery. Wont be ordering here again.

Amazing Wok is a small takeout restaurant located right next to Price Chopper and Big Lot.
My grandmother used to order her foods here, right after she got back from Price Chopper… She usually the chow fun (Flat Noodles). I’ve believe this restaurant had been running for more than decade. Few seats and table, and does delivery sometimes.

I have only eaten here a few times. I used to take out from here on occasion, but changed to a better location nearby. The other day, while out running errands, I was in the Price Chopper plaza and decided to grab lunch here (it’s always a bad idea to grocery shop hungry).
The place does not have a lot of seating — just a small «bar» around the outside of the restaurant — clearly it’s meant for takeout or delivery. The husband went with General Tsos and I went for Pepper Steak.
We received our meals promptly and they were steaming hot. My first thought was «how great it is to have such hot Chinese food?» Normally with delivery, it’s not quite that hot, so I was excited. The husband loved his General Tso’s chicken and devoured it. I tried a bite and it was pretty good. However, my pepper steak was terrible! It smelled fishy and had a slight fish taste to it. Now, it was just steak, green peppers, and onions and I’ve had the dish plenty before to know it’s not heavy on fish oil or anything like that which would cause the fish odor. I don’t know if something was bad or just cooked with something that made the flavor blend, but it was not good. I thought it was just me being sensitive, but the husband even agreed. That evening and the next day my stomach was upset. Coincidence? Maybe, but doubtful.
Overall, this is not a great place and seems to be quite hit or miss. With so many other options in the area, I’d pick another one.

What happened, Amazing Wok? When I wrote my first review for this restaurant (which I’m shocked was nearly 2 years ago), Amazing Wok was by far my favorite Chinese restaurant. Well I haven’t a clue what they have changed (New owners? New managers? Both?!), but they need to change it back and quick! I moved out of the Albany area last summer and have been back in Albany sporadically. The last two times I have been in town, I’ve ordered food from Amazing Wok, assuming they would be the same old faithfully delicious restaurant they always were. Both times I was wrong.
I ordered the same food I usually get; fried dumplings, beef with broccoli, crab rangoons and a pork egg roll (no I don’t finish it all, mind your business). The beef with broccoli used to be juicy, delicious, flavorful. Now, it might as well have come from the food court of America’s worst mall. The fried dumplings weren’t much better; each time they were borderline undercooked in the middle (not enough to make me sick, but just enough to be gross) and were runny as could be. The pork inside was just plain unflavored, as well. The egg roll could have been a salted foot. But the crab rangoons were the biggest dissapointment of all. I have compared every Chinese restaurants crab rangoons that I have eaten in the last several years to what this restaurants crab rangoon used to be. The crab rangoons I ate tonight were among the worst I have ever had (the shell was so overcooked that I practically cut my lip on it).
To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. Unfortunately, they’ve lost a customer in me and I’ll be looking for a new restaurant to fill the void in my stomach.

Yes, this place delivers for your convince. Yes, this place is really cheap. But no, the quality of the food is just not there. Not recommended to eat here.

The soup tasted like dishwater and was brown. I dumped it.
