Christopher’s Nothing Fancy

I’m from the peninsula by the city and don’t mind driving across the bridge to have my corn taco or quesadilla fix! What ALWAYS sells me at any establishment is the hand off among team members. Every time I have gone, the person at the register greets me, the chefs always seem to get my food ready very shortly after I sit, and the prices are reasonable. Several occasions, the staff in the back greet me with a warm hello even if I just pass by to use the restroom. Upon finishing my meal, the cashier either bids me good bye or thanks me to seal the deal!

It’s been several years since I have eaten here and found that the food quality is not what I remember, a conclusion supported by the much smaller crowd than before. I found their giving me an onscreen tip selection page (15% 20% 25%) when paying, even before getting food or service, really tacky. I must say, however, that the chap at the counter was friendly and helpful.

I see a few reviewers are unhappy that the food here is cooked to order…“ya gotta wait?” And no, the chimichanga isn’t deep fried. Some of ya claimed to be upset that ‘authentic’ Mexican foods such as taco de cabeza, beans mashed with lard, or enchiritos are not available.
I like to come here for the Santa Fe Salad, the supreme low-​carb salad. It can come with a cutlet (not carnitas), steak or chicken breast, perfectly seared and sliced thinly to top the lettuce, avocado, scallions.
YES, the Sante Fe salad does have scallions!

I come here frequently for dinner. The food is fresh and good quality for a decent price. The burritos are huge. I recently had the grilled salmon with rice and black beans. Fabulous. Yes, you go up to the counter and order yourself and they bring it to you. I like that arrangement as opposed to the traditional waiter/​waitress. Great food and I will continue to eat here.

This is a favorite spot to meet a buddy for lunch, or share a relaxing dinner with friends out on the patio. The ingredients are always fresh — salad greens, house-​made tortillas, salsa — and delicious. I especially recommend the chicken tortilla soup (YUM!), chicken taco salad, and chile relleno dinner. My husband and I have been coming here for years, and Christopher’s never disappoints, in service or food. Convenient location with parking.

Never coming back, a friend and I walked in and weren’t sure if we order at the counter or at the table, turns out it was at the counter., no big deal. We walked up, looking at the menu as the cashier impatiently starring at us to hurry, I ordered a pork verde burrito, my friend ordered nachos. Burrito had two pieces of meat, bagged cheese, soggy, no flavor. The nachos, cold steak, 5 chips, no flavor.

I have seen this place multiple times on the way to work. Looking for a a new place to try a friend and I decided to stop in.
Though it says nothing fancy The look and feel seemed a bit fancy. Not greed it at all by the staff, we were very confused if we were supposed to sit down or go to the front and order. As we were Taking a look over the menu, over the menu we noticed the prices were a little higher than expect.
I ordered the nachos with steak that’s a normal item I get at any Mexican restaurant I go to. I am never paid $ 14 for nachos in my life…
I thought we are already here I will just get it maybe it’s just a really big order of nachos.
The place was not crowded two other couples already sitting down eating, but it took us at least 20 minutes just to receive nachos and a burrito.
The food looked sloppy… I could not even find the chips in the nachos, shredded cheddar cheese was not what I expected. I also expect it my food to be warm if not at least hot. The amount of steak was good but unfortunately it was also cold and not seasoned at all. In fact nothing on the nachos had flavor… It seemed as if they opened a can of black beans didn’t drain it and poured it on top…
The salsa was so Blan I wanted this whole experience to be over with. Guacamole was the only thing that was really tasty.
Like I mentioned before I got the steak but I noticed there was an only steak on the plate, there was also pork… And not just one piece multiple port pieces.
Unfortunately this was not a good experience for me, it seems like there’s a lot of regulars that go here maybe they were just having a bad night. Maybe they have new cooks. Whatever the cases just wasn’t what I was looking for especially for Mexican food.

Nice place for a quick lunch, dine in or take out.
I have eaten here 4 times but have only tried one thing — Santa Fe Salad.
I refuse to eat anything else because it is so insanely good.
It’s made with romaine lettuce and spring mix topped with Monterey Jack, avocado, salsa, roasted chiles & onions. You can add chicken, shrimp, pork or beef to it & it’s dressed with a secret homemade vinigrette. I always get it with steak, which is flavorful and perfectly cooked. I also like to add their green salsa in my salad to make it juicier and give it a kick. I’m craving it as I’m typing!
My husband tried their steak burrito and thought it was just OK. He didn’t like that it was cut in half. He is a Gordos guy and is set in his ways…

I’ve got to downgrade my review from 5 stars to 4. I still like the place, but the quality and service is somewhat uneven, depending upon whether the main woman is working or not. When she isn’t there, quality plummets. For example, we ordered margaritas the other night, and the machine wasn’t working properly so we got lukewarm, bad-​tasting drinks. Other times, the frequently changing waitstaff has gotten our food orders wrong.

I can walk here from my house. It is cute inside. The patio has a fountain and a cool breeze– perfect for dining with my dog. I just had the pork special for dinner, which was two perfectly grilled pork chops with rice and beans. Just simple, tender, and delicious. I’ve had the enchiladas here and enjoyed them and tasted the steak taco which had tender thick slices of grilled meat with a sweet and salty rub on it. Meals with rice and beans are about 11 – 13 $. Chips and the salsa bar come with your meal. The only part I did not like was the frozen strawberry lime drink which was too sweet. We will probably put it in regular rotation.

Some new faces there. Service seems a bit less. No silverware with food. No condiments offered… Maybe just getting up to speed?
Love the food. Fries are definitly better. Burger is still the best around — sorry Barneys and Boss!

Perfect local joint for easy Mexican food. I love the Santa Fe salad with shrimp or beef, I don’t know what kind of marinade they use but it’s highly addictive!
The burger is really good too, not the place to get a taco though.
Décor is bright and inviting and there is a little patio in the back in case you want to eat al fresco and bring your dog.

Stopped for some chips and guacamole and it was fantastic. Fresh, great chips made from handmade tortillas which was a nice change from so many places that buy big bags at Costco. Took a dozen tortillas home with me too. I just love the name of the restaurant, too. Nothing Fancy. Very clever!

I love this place the staff is so friendly and always greets me and my daughter with a smile. Jessica has been here since I stumbled across a few years ago and always so friendly, the food is delicious and the atmosphere is really relaxing. Odessa lit the fireplace for my daughter to enjoy during dinner tonight. Must pay a visit.

I just had a very tasty veggie burrito here. Some of the reviews are negative, but if you want good food I would say check it out.
It’s not easy running a business and you can’t please everybody. If the lady at the front is not smiling all the time, it’s okay. The food and the environment are good.

This place is near my work, so I’ve been here several times throughout the years… but every time I leave not feeling great.
I find it overly priced for what it is. Mediocre. Even their beans, rice and salsa are bland. The lady that usually takes your order at the counter doesn’t seem happy. Everyone at my work pretty much avoids this place. If you’re looking for good food near here, try Patola, Meal Ticket, or Sumo Sushi.

Best burritos in town! I am not a vegetarian, but their veggie burrito and add steak is the best burrito I have ever had in my life… and I have eaten many burritos in my day. Their burrito has all the beans, rice. etc you would expect… but also has amazing grilled vegetable in it, like broccoli, zucchini, roasted pepper and more!!! The salads here are also fabulous!
I work for Advanced Home Energy and we have used Christopher’s catering service 3 years in a row! We can’t get enough! Their catering is just as amazing as their restaurant food and is VERY reasonably priced!!! I searched high and low for catering for 6 – 80 people for under $ 1000 and you can’t find it anywhere… but here! Everyone always raves about the food and request it year after year.
The staff is super friendly, I have never had any issues with them! I read a few other reviews and they just don’t make any sense to me when complaining about customer service. The restaurant is also very cozy and a great place to work — they have Free Wifi. This place is Highly recommended!!!

We have been eating here since we moved to Albany. The food is fresh, consistent and the meat has always been moist. Our favorites are the Santa Fe Burger, Chicken Salad, and Chile Relleno. The kids menu is terrific and serves enough for a 2^nd meal. We tell our Golden «let’s go to Christopher’s» and he knows to head straight the restaurant’s back patio. The staff here have always been friendly and terrific.

Now I guess Christopher’s is having people harass those who write bad reviews for their restaurant… I just received a message telling me I’m fat and they don’t want me at Christophers… wth??LMAO
I guess the kindergarten minded folk who run the place think this is the way to get back at bad reviewers… No! The way to get back at bad reviewers is the make better food and prove us all wrong… don’t waste your money here people.
