There weren’t many people in this restaurant on a Saturday night, which baffles me. The food is terrific and the prices very reasonable. The three of us split two vegetarian samosa orders, poori, malai kofta, and shadi paneer. The crust on the samosa was flaky and light and the filling delicious, with just the right amount of spice. The poori was light as air. The sauces for the two dishes we ordered were fairly similar, so perhaps we should have ordered differently. Still, both were delicious. The waiter was excellent. He was available but not intrusive. One time I noticed that he glanced at our table, saw that some of us were still eating and left. I so appreciate that as opposed to the all-too-prevalent, «Are you still working on that?»

Flavors of India ranks three and a half to four stars for me. I will admit that we have only done takeout, and that we are slightly biased by our extreme love for Karavalli in Latham, but Flavors of India offers solid Indian food. My dining partner and I order from here fairly often. I always have ordered chicken tikka masala and chicken korma. I know it’s not the most exciting, but those are among our favorites. I love that I am always asked about heat level. Although tikka masala generally comes as a mild dish automatically at most places I have ordered it, I am always asked my preferred spice level here. I have asked for medium and spicy, and I now ask for somewhere on between medium and spicy! I think the kick of heat adds a really nice flavor to the creaminess of the masala. My dining partner is spice-shy, so he gets his korma mild, but really enjoys the subtle flavors and non-heat spices it offers. The portions are not huge, but usually plenty enough that I get a dinner out of it and a lunch the next day. My only drawback for Flavors of India thus far is that I am not a big fan of their naan. We always get the plain, and it has always come across to be a little dry and crumbly to me. Perhaps it’ll be better when we finally dine-in. The prices are a hair high, but to me, the quality is worth it. And speaking of dining in, the restaurant really is lovely. I’ll be coming back here for something other than take out — and maybe something other than chicken tikka masala soon!

This place was good average Indian food. For the lunch buffet, you walk in and can immediately sit down anywhere and can go right up and start getting food. Sodas are also on the buffet line. They had the usual Indian food there with a veggie main dish as well. The nan was brought to the table and not at the buffet line. Also water from tap was also poured as well. They had a couple of the sweet yogurt things for dessert and for 2 people it came to 21 dollars and some change. I stuffed myself and it was a good deal I thought for standard good Indian food. Check doesn’t come to you either you go up to the bar and pay that way before leaving so don’t wait for the check at the table expecting it to come to you, you have to get up and pay lol.

Excellent dinner. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the service was great, too. We ordered the vegetable sampler appetizer, and it was a fun variety of different fried vegetable items, and it came with 3 different sauces/condiments. For dinner I ordered the lamb curry, and my fiancé ordered the lamb rogan josh. We both asked for medium heat. My curry was fantastic. Nice, tender, flavorful chunks of lamb in a curry sauce that had heat and depth of flavor, but wasn’t overwhelming. It was a really nice, reasonable portion — not a huge amount of meat or an excessive amount of rice. I always appreciate proper portions! Flavors of India was a great dinner experience, and I would absolutely go again. It wasn’t crowded at all at 6pm on a Friday — we were actually the only people there! Surprising, because the food is excellent!

I came here for lunch today and noticed that the prices are a couple of dollars more than the other Indian restaurants in the area. Their tandoori chicken was great, but I didn’t like their cheese naan very much, it wasn’t made with mozzarella cheese. I am not sure what kind of cheese it was but it had a dry crumbly consistency which was okay but didn’t give it much flavor. I should have gotten plain naan. The chicken curry was okay but I got the flavor as mild and I should have asked for medium because it didn’t have enough flavor. Their restaurant is beautiful and they have good service.

Hands down best Indian food in Albany. Only wish that they delivered, but the food is so good I don’t mind picking it up.

We went for the lunch buffet. So the good part: Samosas, tikki, bhajiya were pretty good, so was the biryani and naan. Non vegetarians in our group were quite happy with the meat dishes. However, buffet options are a little limited for vegetarians, especially the main course, which is why vegetarians could give the buffet a miss. And I wasn’t too impressed with the dessert, gajar ka halwa. But on the whole the food was pretty good.

By far the best Indian food I’ve had. Not a single disappointment. Large menu to choose from, large portions and friendly staff. The food here is far from mediocre, bursting with flavor in every bite. The atmosphere is clean, soft and professional. Great idea for a group get together to try the platters. Worth the experience I promise!

Who in their right mind keeps a delivery minimum of $ 50? And then tries to take the moral high horse by saying they will make an EXCEPTION for you by allowing a delivery for ONLY $ 35? On a weekday night. Get a grip on yourself, Flavors of India.

Okay. My love to try new places took me to FOI. Flavors Of India. Very happy n satisfied with the buffet. Good service. Lot of vegetable options in the buffet. I hope they stay like that for a long time. The other day I ordered chicken biryani for pick up, the price was $ 15.55. The serving that I got was pretty small, with only 4 pieces of chicken in it. They need to atleast Lower there price for the serving they are offering or increase the amount of food. I was bit disappointed on that. It’s not like I will never be back there. It’s just that they need to realize the price n portion relation.

This place is awesome. The first time I went there, I had buffet. They have much more variety and delicious food than any other competitors. After having it, I don’t think I would go for buffet at any other places. The food is authentic. The second time I went there, I had Chicken achar, tofu, garlic naan and rose water cream ball(Gulab Jamun). Chicken Achar was so fresh with coriander. They took sometime to make dessert but it seemed like they made it right there. It was so soft and delicious. Actually, to admit i have been in Albany for 3 years. And that was the best food I had ever in Albany.

Look out Karavalli Latham: you have serious competition. The new kid on the block is Flavors of India and judging from my first visit, the bar for Indian has been raised — high. I wouldn’t even compare FOI to Ghandi, Jewel of India or the Shalomars; they are in a different category. This is full service dining with a full bar and in a setting that is luxurious. Which is amazing considering the previous business that occupied this space. That was Clayton’s and a subsequent Spanish venue. The people behind FOI have done an awesome makeover of the place. My jaw dropped when I saw it having been to Clayton’s many times. Of course the important things are the food and the service. FOI delivers on both counts. The management really cares about customers and no request is too extreme. At the next table there was an upscale Indian party of six out celebrating an anniversary; they all knew the manager and owner. That was a good sign but I needn’t have worried, the lamb saag was as tender and flavorful as any I’ve had. The prices are a few dollars higher than the Shalomars; more in line with Karavalli. I highly recommend this new Indian addition.

Flavors of India occupies the old Clayton’s Caribbean restaurant location gutted and renovated with a bar(no alcohol yet, but staff assured me their liqueur license is a few days away) and buffet serving tables. Probably the best Indian food experience I’ve had in the Capital Region and I’ve eaten at nearly every Indian place in the Albany area over the years. Let’s just hope they can keep their quality consistent. Indian places are notorious for variable quality especially over time. I’ve dined in once and placed an order for pickup. I think this is my new go-to Indian food. I’ve sampled 6 entrees from Flavors of India, one appetizer, chai tea, lassi and several breads with the standard Indian condiments. The appetizer was the only disappointment but everything else was flavorful and seemed fresh. An older man who appears to be the owner/chef hangs around to chat up the customers and gauge their experience, so this tells me that someone is trying very hard to make the food good and customers happy. The real test will be 12 to 24 months down the road. Time will tell, and this is my greatest fear with all mom and pop places(which have the greatest potential for superlative heights and ghastly lows). But what’s life limited to the predictable tired flavors of the big box chain restaurants?
Parking seems to be a problem. Unless I missed something they have no restaurant parking and you have to hunt for a spot on the street. To be honest, the neighborhood is virtually in the ghetto and I question the reasoning that led to renovating this location. Most people walking down Lark will not want to go up Washington past Iffy’s(which has coke heads doing lines in the bathroom — a girl even invited me to do coke with her in the bathroom — a first for everything). I suppose people could walk down from Henry Johnson. It’s just not the best location even though it’s near Lark. I’ll probably order from this restaurant every 1 – 2 months and if quality drops I’ll lower their star rating accordingly and go back to the old places or order once every 6 – 12 months. There are so many Indian/Pakistani food options in the Albany area it’s easy to give up on a place.

Value for money with authentic food. The buffet spread was a lot better than other indian restaurants in the area in terms of number of items and taste, included a can of soda of your choice and ofcourse dessert. Will definitely go back.
