Great old-school dinner. Breakfasts were very good. Turkey BLT club was excellent(try the potato salad). Overall, great ambience, food and service. Like you would expect years ago but don’t find In a dinner any longer.

This is the real deal Holyfield!!! This place has been in business since 1949 and there’s a good reason why. Family of four… full breakfast for 30 bucks. Staff is super nice… food was hot, not greasy, and very delicious. Not your typical diner(with every type of food imaginable and a shiny dessert case). So if you’re looking for tasty food in an old school diner, with class… go here. If you want diabetes go to IHOP.

This diner was a new place for us to try as we were heading to our hotel after an overnight drive from Virginia. Bathrooms were super clean which I appreciate. Limited parking in the lot but we found a spot on a Saturday morning around 8:30. I had the egg white spinach omelette with home fries and my husband had the Western omelette with cheese and ordered us a side of crispy bacon. Waitress staff was very accommodating and overall experience was great! We will come back because this owner has kept everything clean and the food was wonderful. Thanks Jacks for the wonderful breakfast!

Good, not great. Some think the inside décor is cute, I think it needs an upgrade. I was really surprised at how small the place is on the inside. I can’t imagine what it’s like in there when it gets really busy. The bathrooms are in serious need of TLC. I ordered one of the breakfast specials which included 2 french toast slices, eggs, homefries, and a choice of meat. The french toast was good, served on nice thick bread. The eggs were cooked perfectly to my liking, but the homefries and bacon wasn’t anything special. The homefries had no taste to them and looked like a weird mushy orangy color. The bacon must’ve been deep fried because it was bone dry to a crisp; and not the pan fried crisp either. My friends enjoyed their meals and the prices weren’t bad. They have a really big breakfast menu and their lunch menu looked pretty good. I may stop by again and give it another chance to wow me.

Our favorite diner! Top notch diner experience with superb food I usually get the bacon egg and cheese on the roll with home fries which is to die for! But is pretty basic, my gf always tries new stuff and hasn’t complained yet!

The Albany diner scene continues to change. Dewey’s is now long gone. And Jack’s has a kickass egg and cheese sandwich. It’s one of my favorites in the region. Not because they do anything fancy to it. Rather, because they just let it be what it is. And it’s perfect in its simplicity.

Come for the food, leave with some street cred. This somewhat rough and tumble diner is the real deal. No glitz, no glamour, no hipsters just good ol’ diner food and your token octogenarians. This is really a 3.5 for me but I like the bonus street cred so I rounded up. The menu is pretty extensive and offers the standard diner breakfast fare such as eggs/bacon/toast, omelettes, pancakes, french toast and even Belgian waffles. I didn’t peruse the lunch section but there were quite a few pages! My husband ordered the western omelette with egg whites and was quite pleased with the execution. He said the egg was cooked appropriately and the fixin’s worked well. I channeled my inner 5-yr old and opted for a short stack of the chocolate chip pancakes and 2 over medium eggs. Acting a little closer to my actual age, however, I didn’t soak them in maple syrup. This made for very rich chocolatey pancakes which were slightly on the drier side. I finally caved and doused them in syrup which improved my experience. The coffee is diner coffee, no 2 ways about it– but at least it’s bottomless. They also offer a few specials which are actually items already on their menu but they throw in a coffee or juice.

If you are in the Albany area you must stop here. Service was great. Their homemade fries and homemade corn beef hash were so delicious. BTW I found this place thru Unilocal thanks for the info.

Wonderful diner! Stopped in here for a late lunch, but ordered breakfast. Had two eggs sunny side up, bacon, home fries and toast. Eggs were a little overcooked, but still good. I usually pass on home fries, but these were crispy and we’ll seasoned. I ate every bite! Love the atmosphere. Jack’s is a old diner car with a long counter bar and pictures of historic Albany on the walls. Service was great.

It’s open 6am-4pm. The corned-beef hash is amazing. The price also reasonable. I met Danny Glover(star of Lethal Weapon) there, eating with his friend. No 4 breakfast is delicious, 1 French toast, 1 pancake with 2 eggs and hash and big ham

The food was good, my boyfriend and I both had the Greek omelette with home fries. While the home fries were slight cold, they were still good. The omelette was great, could use a bit more feta and tomato though. Coffee was refilled promptly which was wonderful. You definitely see some interesting characters coming in and out of this place.

Jack’s. The best breakfast spot in town. Great breakfast deals and friendly service. Get there early on weekends. They do get busy.

Total diner experience just wasn’t too impressed. The rice was dry. The shredded chez was poured right out of a bag. There was almost more fat and grizzle on my steak than good meat. If I find myself in Albany again I might have to find another place to eat.

Jack’s is by far my favorite diner in the Capital Region. It’s a small family run diner car with some of the best breakfast and lunch options in the area. Like Ron Swanson, I live for delicious breakfast foods and I have to say Jack’s homemade corned beef hash and eggs are some of the absolute best around, and can kill the worst of hangovers. Just delicious. I also really like that they have real breakfast potatoes, not those tiny potato nuggets that live somewhere in a freezer that get dumped in a fryer. This is real deal, sitting on a griddle breakfast potatoes. I especially love when they get a little potatoey crust from sitting on said griddle. I’ve also tasted some of the other offerings, and can say I’ve never been disappointed. They have a top shelf egg sandwich, excellent reuben, good soup(a cup is a bowl’s worth), good french toast(although no real maple syrup offerings, boo) and good hot sandwiches. Most of the lunch options are served with fries straight out of the fryer. Since we’re becoming regulars, I can say that every waitress is friendly and highly efficient. The food comes out piping hot and fresh every time. Jack’s is a diamond in the rough.

Found you on roadtrippers and glad we stopped. Yummy breakfast inside an old school diner. The place could use some sprucing up as the seats are ripped and stuff looks old. Friendly waitresses and the breakfast was great! Big omelettes with tons of homefries and yummy wheat toast!

Jack’s is what a diner should be and is true to the American diner. Quick, friendly service, with a no-frills, well executed classic diner menu. I ordered a veggie omelette. The 3 egg omelette was ever so slightly undercooked, which I like. Nothing ruins an omelette more than overcooking it. It was loaded with about 6 different kinds of vegetables and good old american cheese. The side of potatoes were ok, but really needed to be on the flat top longer to put some crust – and flavor– on them. My white toast was«perfect». Thin, small slices slathered with butter. My wife’s blueberry buttermilk pancakes were cooked perfectly and served steaming hot. The slice of ham that accompanied her pancakes was nicely caramelized and she loved it. I’m already making plans to go back and try the egg sandwich. As other reviews have noted, Jack’s makes a good one.

The real deal. We came here because of positive Unilocal reviews. The reviews did not do justice to thr incredible meal that we ate. French Toast on Challah bread perfectly cooked. Matt had Monte Cristo also on Challah bread… mmm my home fries were beyond perfecton and the coleslaw was probably the best I ever had. Thanks Unilocal reviewers for leading us to Jacks Diner.

Thumbs up for a solid old-school diner, and a regular weekend destination for me, especially for the egg sandwich(definite contender for one of the best fried egg sandwiches available locally – the cooks know how to fry an egg just right). Try it with sausage(cased links sliced lengthwise). Prices are reasonable: Sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich(two eggs and 2 or three links of sausage) and bottomless cup of coffee ran just over 7 bucks. Menu is straightforward, and the service is good. It is an old school diner building, trailer style and the interior is clean and space is well used. Booths are comfortable, but might be snug for larger patrons. It is not as big as other diners, and fill up quickly on weekends, but waits are not long due to efficient service and kitchen staff.
