Only bread in albany that is worth eating. The hard rolls are the best for any buttered roll, sandwich or just dipping in soup. 5 stars.

We have been buying their bread and seeded hard rolls for years. The bread is delicious and goes with so many of our meals. The hard rolls are tasty and have a fantastic texture when they’re fresh.

A previous reviewer said, «This is an amazing find in Albany. In the Bronx, maybe not so unusual.» Spot on. I grew up on Prinzo’s rolls. I moved to NYC later on, and I can’t say I ever had bread that was *better* than Prinzo’s. Comparable, maybe. But better? Hell no. Especially considering the price. Today, I live in Brooklyn and I’m surrounded by «authentic» stuff on all sides. Prinzo’s is about as authentic as it gets, but they just do their thing and don’t make a fuss about it. And for how great it is, it’s cheap. I know that’s been said before, but I can’t emphasize it enough.

If they could somehow bottle the smell of this place and sell it they could probably make millions. I love walking into this place for a fresh loaf and smelling that intoxicating fresh bread smell. The place is really no frills and has been for as long as I can remember. You go in to find an L shaped bakery case with hard rolls in them and behind it is a wall full of wooden racks that holds the various breads, large and small Italian loves as well as some other varieties like torpedo rolls. No cakes, no cookies, and not really much to look at… But some great Italian bread and hard rolls are made here. I think they do most of their business by selling rolls and bread wholesale to grocers and restaurants/deli’s. I have had a lot of sandwiches throughout the area on Prinzo’s hard rolls… It seems like there is a correlation between deli’s that use Prinzo’s for their bread and the quality of their finished sandwiches. These deli owners know quality from the bread up! A nice slice of Prinzo’s Italian bread accompanying a spaghetti and meatball dinner… There is not much better in the world in my opinion.

The Italians could take a lesson from the French. Or maybe it’s we Americans who need the lesson. «Bakery» is a confusing word. Boulangerie on the other hand, is very clear. I was excited to see a store so dedicated to a single effort. Clearly, this place takes it’s Italian bread and rolls VERY seriously. Still I was less excited about the actual rolls. Not because Prinzo’s does not make them well. I just don’t think I truly appreciate the style of bread. Possibly, I am just grumpy, because I hoped they would have lovely sweet treats. But I did also find it to be a bit dingy. Maybe not dirty, per se. But I would be hard pressed to call it appetizing.
