My favorite sushi place in upstate NY. Love love it. Always fresh and delicious. Only one concern — I feel like their tuna dumplings are getting smaller and smaller :(But price stays the same

Tried same again today. They were very friendly on the phone and delivered promptly. We had two orders of spring rolls they are exceptionally small but also very good. I’m glad we got two ordered for the two of us so we eat had our own. We also had the Thai fried rice with chicken which was very good. And the wonton soup which wasn’t my favorite but on a cold night hit the spot.

This place has good days and bad. No consistency. I’ve had amazing sushi and then not so amazing. Like the chef had a hang over that day. Who knows.

Ordered the eel roll, Philadelphia roll and the Gozilla roll. They were okay. Not the best sushi I’ve had. Husband ordered the tom yum soup which was just okay. Service was good and so was the music. I’ll stick to my go to sushi place tho!

I love Sake Café. Their Dumplings are great, I love their string beans and pretty much everything else. Great Customer service– quick and delicious. Love this place.

Ordered to go last night for the first time. Came up to visit my boyfriend at Law School. Food was pretty good and good portions. We got Beef Pad Thai– though there could have been more beef and not sure it was not mixed. There also was hardly any sauce. We also ordered the Godzilla roll which was delicious as well as the Crazy Monster. Overall good.

Beautiful setting with good music. Very authentic, tasty, and well choreographed. Staff is well managed and well trained. I had the Godzilla roll. I would recommend it to everyone. The Drunken Noodles are amazing. The food is delicious. Easily the best Oriental/Asian restaurant in the Albany area. 10⁄10 would eat there again.

Sake is delicious for both sushi & hot food. The pineapple at the end of the meal is a nice touch too.

Veggie Pad Thai is not good at all. The dish is very dry and very bland. I will not order the Pad Thai again.

Had really good fresh tasting food here for lunch. I play it safe with chinese when I go to new places so I got the lunch special of general tso’s chicken comes with a nice sized amount of white rice and a soup or salad. I got the miso soup which tasted the same as other places I’ve gotten. Their chicken you can tell is actual real chicken and not the processed crap that take out spots use, sauce had great flavor. I got a cold sake(bubbly, served in a pink bottle-wish I could remember the name) and it was quite refreshing. Friend got the godzilla roll which was presented nicely and was pretty tasty even though I have yet to acquire a taste for sushi. The ambiance is charming and a fairly intimate place, I think it would be nice for a date. I would like to return and see what else is on the menu.

Sake Café. My saving grace. My guilty pleasure. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays their delivery drivers from bringing me piping hot bags of take out Asian cuisine. Nothing in the fridge on Tuesday? Sake. Work late? Sake. Lazy? Sake. It is embarrassing to admit, but I have never actually eaten inside their restaurant. But on the(rare) occasions that I’ve picked up my food, I’ve noticed that it’s nice inside, and always populated by a diverse crowd. The restaurant is small, and dim, but nicely appointed and comfortable. You can also watch them make your sushi, which is always fun. That said, I’ve ordered from them on at least 30 occasions. Easily. The real number is probably, embarrassingly, even higher. I resort to Sake on the laziest of occasions. I know that to truly enjoy their food, I should have it served to me immediately after it’s cooked. But on a snowy Monday night, ain’t nobody got time for that. Sake Café attempts to, like many Asian restaurants in Albany, encompass many varieties of food. They have the standard Chinese fare(Sesame Chicken, Black Pepper Chicken), and Thai standards like Red and Panang Curry and Drunken Noodles. They also have, in my humble opinion, by far the best Hot and Sour soup that I’ve ever had. Fresh mushrooms of several variety. Generous portions of tofu, delicious slices of pickled cabbage and bamboo, and a not overly thick broth. There’s no mystery meat, which is an excellent omission. It’s the best, and the size you get as a side to an entrée is commendable. Personally, I would recommend that people stray from the«classic» Chinese entrees that they are most comfortable with and try their other offerings. They’re better. I really enjoy the Red Curry, the Nebeyaki Udon, and Sunny Side Thai. That said, I do have a soft spot for their Black Pepper Chicken, which is a wonderful combination of sweet and spicy and savory, and somehow, no matter how long you take to open it up, is always steaming hot. The star of Sake Café for me though, is their sushi. They have a huge selection and variety of sushi. Proudly featured on their website is a(relatively dated) review by Steve Barnes proclaiming that they have the best sushi in Albany. And in general, I’m in agreement. To date, I have yet to find fresher fish at an Albany sushi joint. There are those who order sushi to enjoy fried things dripping in sauce. That is not really my style. And their Maki combo is the antithesis to such complicated monstrosities. No spicy mayo accoutrement, no fried crumblies; just rice, fish, and seaweed. And man, is it some tasty fish. Some outstanding salmon and tuna, and I have never once been disappointed by a suspiciously fishy piece. And they are so liberal in their use of it. There are plenty of times that the piece of fish is separated from the nori by only the thinnest layer of rice, sometimes just two grains. So often you’ll order sushi and the piece of fish is the size of a pencil wrapped in old sticky rice and stale nori. Not here. It is consistently excellent. With that said, for those who do like those elaborate massive rolls, Sake Café has you covered, with more than a dozen varieties. Rating Sake Café is difficult for me. It’s a place that I love and rely on, so it gets an extra star for that. Some of their standard Chinese options are pretty basic, and would get 3 stars. Some of their offerings are better, and I give them 4 stars. The sushi definitely gets 5, because as far as value and freshness goes, it’s unbeatable. I think I just have to average them, and go with 4. TL;DR? I love Sake Café. It’s my go-to takeout spot. There are probably«better» Asian restaurants in Albany, but not are as reliable, consistently delicious, and happy to deliver to my lazy self. And none of them have sushi that is as tasty and fresh.

So happy the sushi place near my new apartment is delicious! Very fresh and prepared well. Another thing I love about them is their philly rolls aren’t over stuffed with cream cheese! I like cream cheese but sometimes restaurants stuff philly rolls with way too much. Seating is also nice — you can eat outside in the nice weather. Staff is very friendly too.

Going down hill bad. They don’t use the freshest ingredients anymore. My rolls had barely any rice on them. The soft shell crab used to be 10pieces for 8 $ now it’s only 5 pieces. What a rip off. I won’t be back. Try Itchiban on central. They aren’t as a fancy of a place but the foods better and fairly priced. Mad that I spent money here to be ripped off. I’ll pay for good sushi but it’s not here

Very very fresh… had sushi sashimi lunch. Happy to say that I was also able to get wonton soup which is usually not available at a Japanese restaurant. Definitely one of the finest in the area.

I went here on a Friday night with some friends around 6. We figured we should make reservations since it was Friday after work and new Scotland ave– we called the day before and whoever answered the phone made it sound like reservations were necessary as they would be full– when we got there we were one of about 3 tables– no big deal just comical. Anyways, we ordered a variety of sushi options– all decent, but not the greatest sushi in the area… but still fresh, fair in price, with a cute presentation. Sake doesn’t have some of the«pull out all the stops» showmanship that some of the other sushi places in the area have, and it also doesn’t have some of the over the top flavor combos either but it had some good sushi that isn’t trying too hard. If you want to have a good sushi meal without all the bells and whistles, sake is pretty good place to get the job done.

It’s been too long since my last review. I regularly order from here, Dave knows my name and my home as well as work addresses where I often have lunch delivered. I love Sake Café. The sushi is never over the top and is always fresh. Dave is always friendly and attentive, you really can’t ask for better management. I haven’t dined in in quite some time, but the last time we did, Dave greeted my party with a «We missed you, glad your here» shot of I think, quail egg, sea urchin, and something else. Horrifying to look at, I begged to pass it on to someone else, but to no avail… I have consumed sea urchin and lived. I will continue to dine here. The Tuna Dumplings are delicious!

My go to sushi delivery place. They delivery quickly and the food is fabulous. Try the Crazy Couple roll, crab rangoons(THEBESTAROUND), and the coconut shrimp dinner. Yum. Don’t bother ordering their special rolls for delivery, they never taste as good upon arrival. Eating in experience is pretty good, the atmosphere could be updated a bit. Service is quick, the specials are pretty fabulous and the menu is HUGE.

Hands down the BEST sushi in Albany. I’ve been ordering from them for over a year. This past time I ordered the Spider Roll, Philadelphia Roll, California Roll, and Fried Oysters. They were all amazing. I’d definitely suggest going in to eat. The food was A LOT better than when I order delivery.

Sake café is a decent option for sushi in Albany. The restaurant is quiet and nicely decorated with plenty of seating. The service is also up to par. They offer sushi and other Asian dishes including the usual general Tso’s chicken. I did not like the curry though. There is also a decent selection of sake as well in small bottles. They previously did not have a liquor license but do now. I infrequently enjoy ordering take out. It is a decent place for sushi. Try the lunch specials. I ordered the three roll special for $ 10, a good deal.
