I don’t eat lunch out very often at work, so going here is a treat! My favorite is ham and Swiss on rye bread– whatever you get, order it on rye. It is always fresh and delicious. The line gets long at peak times, but it moves fast. The staff and owners are all very friendly. Nothing fancy about the shop or menu, just really good sandwiches. There is plenty of quiet seating upstairs, which is nice when I need a few minutes away from the office.

The owner could not be any more sweet. She took down a huge office order for me all the way from CA. She takes the order and makes the sandwiches. She called me to double check on a few things and confirm the day of which I think is great! They’re on top of it for sure. A nice selection to choose from as well. The sandwiches for catering looked great and very staff was professional at delivery. I would recommend again!

I landed a job in downtown Albany a few months ago — my co-workers were telling me about places to eat for lunch & this was one of them. I decided to go there a few times before I wrote my review. The place is cash only — so make sure you come prepared. The owner(an older gentleman) is a very friendly face, that is usually working at the register. He’s personable and friendly, and knows a lot of the customers by name. The staff is quite friendly also — I have never had a bad sandwich experience here. The prices are also quite good. Considering they don’t used processed meat, the quality of the food exceeds the price. They also aren’t skimping on the extras(lettuce, veggies, etc). I have not dined upstairs, as I usually just grab my lunch to go so I can get back to the office, but I definitely enjoy this establishment. A good recommendation from my co-workers.

Great place to grab a sandwich! A lot of the selections are house made so there are no suspicious deli meats. Simple selection, nothing fancy but you always know what your getting, a great quality!

Love this place! The soup is the best. Especially Cream of Broc. NEVER stop making it!

Very reliable quality downtown casual lunch spot, geared towards downtown regulars and workers. Turkey, Roast Beef and Corned Beef are roasted on premises and they offer fresh rye bread sliced daily. Good portions and mid range pricing for Sandwiches($ 6 – 8). Consider a turkey or roast beef club on toasted fresh rye with their homemade Thousand Island dressing. My favorite deli sandwich downtown. Counter service: moves fast as 4 or 5 sandwich makers are on duty for peak times. Soups appear on the same daily schedule every week. I recommend the Beef Barley on Thursdays. The restaurant also has a clean seating area upstairs with air conditioning. Cash only. Not vegetarian friendly: only offer a basic tossed that looks to be mostly iceberg lettuce.

I went here for lunch during the work week. On the positive side, service is pretty fast. On the negative side, my sandwich was kind of nasty. I am not sure if the turkey is a true cold cut or if they make it in store, but it was slimy and bland. I wish they had wraps as a selection, instead of just bread. I dont think I will bother going back as there are many places to get a sandwich downtown.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in the whole entire world. The line when you walk in at lunch time looks like you’re never going to get out of there, but in minutes you’ll have a delicious, HUGE sandwich in your hands. Everything is so cheap, too. Less than 10 minutes and $ 10 will get you a sandwich, a soda, chips, and a seat upstairs to eat(unless you want your food to go).

This place is awesome. I really don’t know what the other people are complaining about because the place isn’t expensive. I think I paid about $ 5 for a chicken salad sandwich with lettuce, tomato on rye bread. It was wonderful. Soups are $ 2.50ish. Everything is in the $ 4-$ 5 range, which is cheaper than most delis in the area. Small bag of chips? $ 0.50. How is that expensive? This place is no-frills, down-to-earth, tasty sandwich makers. Yes, you will wait on a line that reminds you of high school lunch but it’s so worth it! First, I love rye bread so I love that they have the really big slices of rye bread, but are really thin so it’s not overbearing. The chicken salad is outstanding and they slather it on so you will definitely be full after chowing down. In addition, the tomato and lettuce was completely fresh, which is really nice. No dingy, old wilted lettuce here. They also serve their delicious sandwiches with a real deli pickle, which is another strong point. The people are nice and it’s a simple place to grab a sandwich. In fact, when we moved our office to downtown Albany, my co-workers were excited about its proximity to this place. Plus, we called with an order from our office and they got everything perfect. Thumbs up in my book.

STG as my friends and I call it is somewhere between 3 and 4 stars in my opinion. I took it down to 3 because I would only give Miranda’s or Lunch a 4 and they are a better sandwich for sure. Decent everything, nothing is poor and nothing stands out either. Line always moves quickly, which is nice. Prices are good as far as I am concerned. Atmosphere is lunch place that could use a little refurb and a really good scrubbing. Added bonuses would be given for a wider range of toppings. They don’t have very many dressings or red onions(white only, seriously!!?)

Since I began working downtown I have been hard pressed to find a place that can make a good sandwich. Miranda’s and Lunch were definitely good, but if your simply looking to have a deli sandwich, you cannot do better than Sandwiches To Go. The food here is amazing. Without a doubt, you cannot go to a place with a better quality of meat, bread or dressings in the area. Everything is homemade, and if you dont get the Rye and Russian dressing you are really doing yourself an injustice. The meats are always great too. I get the Roast Beef and Turkey on most occasions and you can tell that its not the prepackage crap that many of the places in the area will plop on your sandwich. As far as the price goes, I think its the most affordable place you can eat at in the area. Even the chains like Quiznos are charging at least $ 10 for a medium sandwich, chips and a drink. In comparison, at Sandwiches To Go I get a huge sandwich(b/c the rye bread is so wide), chips & a drink for around $ 7.50. I’m actually surprised they don’t charge more based on the quality, but I’m not complaining. The best part about this place is the lovely owner, who is extremely friendly and always speaks with her regulars. She appreciates her patrons and it shows. The other employees are nice too, often college kids with a friendly disposition. As some others have mentioned, it doesn’t have the best atmosphere but for me this was quickly forgotten due to the exceptional food, service, and ample seating upstairs. I would highly recommend that you try this place(PS get the rye!).

Sandwiches To Go makes a quality turkey sandwich for the downtown Albany lunch crowd. Their other sandwiches are good as well. It gets an average rating because you’d think you were in a prison cafeteria lunch line and the food is just that — good, but average. You won’t be disappointed, but you probably won’t remember it, either.
