Big Chow Chinese Take Out

For poor college students, it’s definitely a go to place. Good prices, decent food for college students, no frills but definitely ok.

I just ate this yesterday and was throwing it up all night. I feel horrible. I think I got food poisoning from this place! It was the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had in my life!!! Don’t go here

So you definitely get your money’s worth of food.
However, they are not clean
I went to the restroom and it was filthy
Not to mention i used it after an employee did and did not wash their hands
I was disgusted…
Get your food to go…

I waited over 1.5 hours and called three times to check on the status of my order. The first two times they assured me it was coming. The last time they said they hadn’t even cooked it!!! And then assured me it could be there in 15 min with something «free.» I cancelled and told them they were horrible service. And the guy hung up the phone on me.

Terrible! It has never been the cleanest place, with a reputation for several health code violations. Before, you used to go at least because of how much food you got vs the price; but at the expense of getting food poisoning?! Not worth it. That’s right! Both my cousin and I got extremely sick after eating there. The place and restrooms are really dirty and the place is very unwelcoming. Don’t believe me? Go ahead and walk in… you’ll see.

I’m sad to see this place have such low stars, but I’m assuming that each day is a different story. I’ve never ordered over the phone, but just go in and make my selections in person. That definitely helps with knowing what’s the freshest. Tonight I had a top notch experience.
For starters, THANK YOU Big Chow for being one of the Chinese places that still has orange soda. I won’t completely digress about the deliciousness of orange soda and Chinese food, but it is a staple enjoyment for me. The sweet and the salty just gets me there.
So when we rolled in, fresh chicken sesame and black pepper chicken had just come out. The third option was beef and broccoli. Each were fresh, hot, didn’t have any «weird pieces» which I define as the not so chewy kind of unrecognizable fatty pieces of something or another. Whew. The chicken was awesome, well flavored but not saturated, and the broccoli was crunchy not soggy, and the zucchini and celery in the black pepper were just as reputable. I’m picky about my veggie textures, and tonight’s cook totally nailed it.
Lo mein and rice, half and half, duh!, was also good. I get it. It’s not your typical lo mein and Chinese rice, but guess what. It does the trick. And we don’t come here for the most authentic experience ever. But for the price (5.79 or 6.79 with drink) how can you really argue? When you pick up that Styrofoam container after it’s loaded you’re basically carrying a stack of bricks. Solid amount.
Now now, some may say the area is questionable, and to that I say, hey, you’re in the student ghetto area and right off of Central… some sketchiness is to be expected. BUT! Tonight I witnessed yet another beautiful Big Chow moment. Someone bought a less fortunate man who was freezing and hungry a huge box and you should have seen the gratitude and joy emanating from him. It was truly a touching moment. Tonight was a win all around. All I can say is give it a try yourself before you write it off!

Where do I start? If I could rate this place negative 5 stars I would. My boyfriend and I tried to order delivery over the phone. The person on the other end was super rude. He said they dont deliver. Which I thought was weird because they have a huge sign advertising the fact that they deliver. So we tried to place an order for take-​out (again highly advertised). The guy on the phone refused to take my order. So we decided to drive up to the resturaunt to get our food. Well, when we get there they are remodeling the parking lot so we are forced to park at the perrico’s next door. We go inside and the guy is me to order. But we FINALLY get our food and are ready to leave. We approach the car and a really sketchy guy has booted it because we parked at perrico’s! (there was no sign saying we couldn’t) I give him my last $ 20 to take the boot off and we go home to FINALLY eat. Everything was dry and had no taste and the rice was SPANISH RICE. The cherry to top it all of was that we got food poisoning!

Stay away!!! TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! I order from GrubHub and my order came all wrong, when I called the delivery guy that had just called me 5 min before to tell me he was in front of the building he had the balls to tell me he never called me and that I had a wrong number and hung up on me!!! I live in Florida and the only number I have from NM is his! I talked to him 5 minutes before, does he thinks I’m not gonna recognize his voice? RUDE! Called the restaurant and his bus believed him! Terrible costumer service. I wanted to go and shove my cell phone with his incoming called in it in their faces! Food was terrible too!!! NEVER AGAIN!
