This is a place I have been wanting to visit for quite some time. It is part of the same family of restaurants which includes Ezra’s and Sophia’s, all within the same few blocks on 4th street. Jo’s is a tiny place, I’d say ten tables tops, and that is part of it’s charm. I really hate the new Sadie’s location just next door. I know it’s not rational, but Sadie’s just tasted better when it was in the bowling ally. The décor at Jo’s is bright paintings and other art by local artists, which I find fantastic. Most if their produce and meat is also locally sourced; equally fantastic. But, the question for me always comes down to: how does it taste? And thankfully, in this case, the answer is fan-freakin’-tastic. My first visit I had a breakfast burrito with chorizo. It came with a side of fresh, tender green, a nice touch. The chorizo was beautifully flavored and not too oily. The potatoes were crisp and seasoned with red chili. The flavors were delightful, as were the textures. I wanted something more, just something to make it a little moister, maybe a little red or green chili on top. Next time I will ask for that addition. My companion had a hamburger and it disappeared before I could even beg a bite, so I assume it was really good. I look forward to returning many times to this little gem and sampling everything on the menu. They offer a huitlacoche burger I can’t wait to try. Huitlacoche is a variety of mushroom that grows on corn and I find it delightful. prices are extremely reasonable: they start at $ 5 and the most expensive thing offered is $ 11. One slight quibble is that they did not offer a plain iced tea and I really loath all flavored iced tea, but that is purely personal.
