Boyfriend came here to get a beard trim and hairline clean up on his long hair. We waited about 15 minutes to be seen by Leonard, who, after a quick, thorough discussion with bf, proceeded to give him an unhurried but efficient trim. Very precise work, and he only charged $ 5. A couple hours later, we realized that the strands of hair bf had tucked behind his ears during the cut were looking a little ragged.(This was not Leonard’s fault at all. Bf had asked him not to touch his hair, just to clean up the hairline.) We decided to return the next day. Leonard trimmed the hairs, again very precisely, and even took the opportunity to re-touch my boyfriend’s beard – he’s a no-nonsense artist! And! He refused payment for the second trip! If we lived in Albuquerque, bf would definitely be back here regularly.

There are some things that don’t get old with time: professionalism, manners, and knowing that a job worth doing is worth doing well. This barber shop is a place that hasn’t gotten old with time. Leonard is the kind of barber I went to with my father when I was a kid(I’m in my 50’s now); a gentleman cutting gentlemen’s hair. All this, and what in the end matters most, a great haircut. This was my first haircut at Justin Tyme, and I am planning on becoming a regular.

This place was a baber shop since 1950s. So it feels like an authentic, classic barber shop. The current barber there has been there for 14 year. He does excellent work. After the buzz, he shaves your sideburns and neck with cut throat blade. Love my haircut. Thanks

Met Leonard today, I’m in town from Hawaii and needed a clean up. Walked in the barber shop that has been there since 1954. Relaxed shop, good conversation and razor fades… When I return, I will surely be returning. Thanks Leonard!

I’ve been getting my hair cut by Leonard for years now. His shop is one of the best in town. Great fades, scissor cuts, service, and prices.

In town for a meeting. Decided to treat myself and look presentable. Found Leonard via these reviews and they were spot on. Had coffee around the corner before he opened and there was a line already. I see why. You will be treated to the most masterful haircut and shave ever. The prices are crazy low so tip generously. You’ll appreciate it when you go back next time.

Leonard is the lone barber at this shop. He takes care of all the smartest lawyers, judges, business owners, and many of us downtown workers. We’re a lucky bunch! This is my go-to shop for a quick cut and clean look. It contains old school fixings like leather seats, a coat rack, and 50s iconography. Also, a friendly barber to talk to who’ll recognize you upon return visits(which you’ll most certainly want to make). He’s up to charging 11 whole bucks for a cut these days! My satisfaction compared to other local spots is way above average. No appointment necessary. You’re always facing the mirror when in the chair so, no surprises. He’s not rough on your scalp, either! Cleaning of your neck is done with a hot lather and a sharp blade(it’s the best part). There’s rarely been an occasion where I’ve sat next to other scruffy-looking gentleman while waiting for my cut. After-lunch hours are usually when I get to come in. He always gets me looking sharp as I head into work. You may have to rinse your neck off afterwards, but he’ll also leave you itching to come back again soon.

Here’s what a typical visit to Justin Tyme looks like: Walking in the front door you’ll most likely see some snazzy fella sitting in the chair, you’ll have to wait your turn, but usually you’re next. Leonard nods a quick hello and you turn to sit in one of the fine leather chairs, quickly sorting through the collection of gentleman’s magazines for the issue which suits your fancy. You read the articles while you relax in air conditioned comfort, and occasionally you think to yourself, «This is Old School, this is how it’s supposed to be. A man’s den.» Your haircut is precise, never rushed, an urban chop from an urban shop. Being an established barber, Leonard tends to be in the know about the city with a Zen Master demeanor: wise, chill and rarely opinionated, the guy just absorbs his element and passes along nuggets of sage insight. Don’t kid yourself, this dude is the Kevin Bacon of New Mexico – everybody is connected to him somehow. Anyway, just when you think he’s done – POW! – he pulls out the friggin’ straight razor! And there you are getting the first hot shave since you stole dads shaving cream when you were 13. A few slaps of after shave and you’re good to go, out the door and onto the scene after you drop… how much? 11 bucks? Fair enough. Bring cash.
