Plaza Eatery

So disappointed! Heard good things about this place but honestly they do not make enough effort in their food preparation. We could tell that everything is institutionally prepared. Lazy. Too bad they don’t make the effort to prepare their food themselves. There must have been 6 women in that kitchen. What are they doing? Gossiping? For instance, wash the lettuce you serve in a salad. Grill the chicken you put on top of your salads yourself. Make your dressings from your own recipes instead of buying the already made junk. Yuk! Sad. You have a captive audience and don’t have enough talent in your kitchen nor any respect for your customers. Women who obviously don’t like cooking running a restaurant. Maybe your menu is too ambitious. Cut the menu back to only items you know how to cook, prepare, bake, etc., with care and attention. BTW it would be nice if a customer could find forks, knives and spoons somewhere convenient.

The food is good, but over priced in my opinion. The service however… The RUDEST group of Mexican women work there. Coming from someone in the service industry, thank goodness they don’t work for tips! Every time I go in there alone, I’m treated like I’m such an inconvenience, but when my (male) coworker– who is also Mexican– goes with me, they are sweet as can be… to him! I will keep going back for the soup, BUT it’s certainly an «in-​and-​out» trip for me!

I have heard really great reviews of this place, so I was shocked to see that they don’t have a lively Unilocal page! It’s located in downtown, just west of Civic Plaza, in the Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office building. They have a ton of variety on the menu — everything from Mexican to Greek, and a good selection of soup, salads, and sandwiches. I had the greek salad, which included fresh feta cheese and real live dolmas (spices and rice wrapped in a grape leaf). Also got a pecan chocolate chip cookie to go — they have quite a lot of pastries to choose from. It got pretty crowded around noon, but I was impressed with how fast they got our food out and the accuracy of our orders (we had a large group). Definitely a solid downtown lunch option!
