Roma Bakery and Deli, Albuquerque, NM — This place doesn’t look like much when you walk in, but boy is the food tasty. I was on jury duty this week at the courthouse, and since I am not familiar with the downtown area, I figured I would just enjoy some of the food places downtown since I don’t often try them. So when I was released for an hour and a half lunch, I went exploring and found this awesome place basically right across the street from the courthouse! It’s totally a little hole in the wall(or hole in the large business office), but it’s so good. They have a hefty sized menu for as small as it was. I got the half sandwich/soup combo. The APD sandwich was amazing. Everything tasted super fresh and awesome. The green chile was super hot, but in such a good way. The green chile soup was much the same, though that was a little on the painful side, but again, still in a mostly good way. All in all, I wished I could have had the opportunity to be able to come back here for another lunch so I could try more, but I only had the one time, but if I ever am back down in the area, I will come back in a heartbeat! Sooo yummy!

So this is a review mainly of the soups. I work not too far away, and in the winter months, this is a great lunch option. The chicken and rice soup in particular is fantastic — chock full of chicken and veggies, and really well seasoned. The lobster bisque is amazingly creamy and good, so make sure you get there early for it, as it(rightly) runs out. Oh, and you get a nice hunk of bread on the side. The service is friendly, the price is right, the ambiance is… well, it ain’t fancy, but there’s seating and it works. Definitely worth a visit.

Needed a quick bite to eat for lunch from Jury duty and found this cozy café just one block away using my Unilocal App. Many sandwiches, salads and soup to choose from, and a deli case full of bakery delights. My soup/sandwich combo came with a cookie for desert! Everything was fresh and very tasty. I will definitely come back to eat here again.

I really enjoyed my lunch here. I had the ½ sandwich and soup and was very satisfied. The weather was nice so I ate outside at one of the two tables out front. I have never gotten better service from a deli before.

I don’t write reviews much, but after bringing my lady with me for lunch today, I had to write one for this deli. First off, the gentleman behind the counter has a friendly and professional demeanor. He talked with great enthusiasm about his lobster bisque and tuna salad sandwich. He even gave us small samples to try, after that we were hooked. We ordered two sandwiches, one was the tuna and the other was the number 1. We ordered full sandwiches and a bowl of soup, but we should have done ½ sandwich ½ soup combo. The lunch hit the spot, but the service and the way this gentleman treated everyone is what will keep us coming back!

Great place for lunch. Had the ½ sandwich & soup(tomato-basil) both were fantastic. The owner is really friendly and makes you feel welcome. We arrived a little before noon which was good because the place was busy once all the local business people started arriving. Highly recommended.

Had a fabulous lunch here. We both ordered the croissant sandwich – one tuna salad and one chicken almond. They were fantastic! Had to have a peanut butter cookie for dessert and it was yummy. Oscar was very nice and accommodating if you wanted to taste a sample too. Great find!

I love this place. They’re close to my office, so we go a couple times a week. Their daily soups are awesome, and the sandwiches are perfect. They hand make their cookies, breads and pastries daily, so they’re always fresh and delicious. The service is great and everyone is always happy to help. Try the Gaspacho, it is excellent and goes with all kinds of stuff!

Found this gem on Unilocal bc I needed fresh baked goods for a client in town. Pastries are amazing and staff is so delightful! Clientele seemed like locals who keep coming back. Their breakfast and lunch menu looked fresh but I didn’t sample. Will come back and try it next time I’m in town.

Yum. Had good variety. A bit busy for lunch, and somewhat cramped seating. But the food was good and they were friendly. The cookies were quite tasty.

So good! So tasty! Soul-warming food made fresh in the courthouse districts. Facing a subpoena? Running from parole violations? Wanting to quash a bench warrant? Seeking a restraining order against a nut job? Tell your attorney to meet you here, and(given what your paying her) have her buy you lunch. Order the special. Take away desert. The memory of good eating will help get you through days if not weeks of baloney sandwiches at MDC.

I’ve been eating here sporadically for more than 7 years and have never been disappointed. My personal favorites are the tuna salad and the chicken salad. Great friendly service, and your sandwich comes with a yummy fresh cookie! If the prices weren’t a bit high for a sandwich shop I’d frequent them a bit more.

Yum. That’s really all that is needed to be said about this place. Breakfast burritos are some of the best downtown. The chicken salad sandwich(typically come on a freshly baked croissant though I get mine on wheat bread) and the spicy tuna sandwich… All to die for. A tad pricey… But worth the indulgence every once in awhile.

Downtown’s best kept secret Sure, it seems kind of dumpy — but it’s not. The staff is fantastic and friendly, and they get to know you by name real easy if you come in a couple times. They have a solid rotation of soups(I recommend Tuesday — jalapeño lobster bisque) that are fantastic. Their sandwiches are fantastic, and the pastries are great. Every sandwich gets a chocolate chip, which I would easily kill for. We make a point to make a trip here at least once a week for lunch, and you should too.

I feel like my last review did not do this place justice. I eat here once a week for several reasons: 1. The food. I have never gotten something bad, cold, or something that was just okay. I fall in love with everything I eat from this expressive little café. The almond chicken salad is the best chicken salad I have ever had, their salads are GINORMOUS and full of lovely rich green vegetables, fruit, and an awesome variety of things, and their french dips are to die for. Their bakery items are incredible. If you eat here for lunch you get a chocolate chip cookie with your meal, but they also have other items available if you want to bring some home for later. Everything they make is made with love and passion and you really can’t go wrong with that. 2. The service! You walk in and are greeted by the biggest smiles and warmest hello’s you could ever ask for. Oscar and all the other members of his staff will remember you even after visiting once. They will remember what you order and what you like and don’t like. Even if the food was the worst food in the world I would still visit to be treated like family by these lovely people. Luckily, the food is great too. 3. The atmosphere! Downtown is by far one of the strangest place in Albuquerque. It’s urban, but it’s old, but it’s urban, but it’s old. Who knows what look they’re going for or what kind of growth they want, but this place is a little bit of happiness. It’s a very cute old little building on the corner. It is not filled high end tables or comfy booths, but it makes me feel happy. I order my food, I get some iced tea, and I slide into one of the funky metal chairs and wait in anticipation as the soft light surrounds me. Eating here turns any day into a great day. I would recommend a breakfast burrito in the morning with a coffee(ask for cinnamon and vanilla), and a almond chicken croissant in the afternoon with their tropical iced tea! Yum Yum Yum!
