The food is ordinary. Not really good and not worth $ 20.95. I’ve been here several times and never once has the waitress /owner been nice to me. Today I asked her for a new /clean plate and she gave me the dirtiest looks all night. The bathroom I’m sure is in violation of every health code. It’s so horrible it made me gag. 100% it’s never been cleaned. It was the last time I ever go there. There are soo many other sushi place to go that are excellent in comparison. Next time I’m going to the Marisco place next door when I get a craving for fish.

My son convinced me to try Sushi Gen or perhaps it was my 50 cop questions I asked about this place that got me to give it a shot. I’m still at a crossroads on whether or not I truly like it or if it’s the $ 20.99 all you can eat price that has me coming back. I know it isn’t the atmosphere because that is definitely lacking nor is it the bathroom that still has me shaking my head… ugh!!! In my 3 visits we’ve had nice servers that are attentive when they aren’t playing on their cellphones :-) The first two times the sushi was pretty good very tasty however their all you can eat menu is very limited to choices but with strategic mix & matching you can find some rolls you’ll love! If you can look past the atmosphere I’m sure you’ll enjoy the sushi… after all that’s what your looking for, right?

as my previous review states, now this is my yearly spot for 5 years in a row, never had a bad experience, they are really nice and welcoming to us, we always hook them up with tres leches cake which they love after trying. they remember us each time we go back. not sure how come everyone else got too much rice or had bad tasting sushi. … must of been a off day idk? but i cant wait to go back, next month

This place is a great place to get all you can eat sushi for a decent price. The quality of the sushi is high, there is such a selection and when you ask for the all you can eat it really is as much as you can manage eating from a simple California roll or to a Chef Specialty Seattle roll no restrictions. The quality of the restaurant is a different story. The location of this building is in an awkward part of a strip mall and inside is divey which docks down some stars for me unfortunately and incredibly dim we had to turn on our flashlight to read our menus. It wouldn’t seem like a great quality of food from this place but it is amazing and worth trying. Thumbs up to Sushi Gen.

My original review was deleted for being too honest. The all you can eat sushi is a giant scam. It’s actually all you can eat RICE with a tiny side of sushi. The staff here are RUDE, inattentive, and inconsiderate. The prices are jacked way up, while the quality of food is shot way down. I STRONGLY urge anyone considering eating here to try somewhere else. You will be thankful if you do. This place is awful. I’ve never been treated more rudely by any member of any restaurant. All because they weren’t happy that my date was not eating all of her rice… For this, they were rude, condescending, and refused to continue serving either one of us. I was still waiting on 2 more rolls which they would not deliver. I ate all of my rice, in spite of the fact that they put WAY too much rice on their rolls on purpose to fill you up so that you order less. Dining here was a truly horrible experience that left me upset for many hours after I left. I will NEVER be back here unless it is to pee on its ashes, because it burned down.

I really like Sushi Gen. We always go for the unlimited sushi, and always fill up with good food. This is my favorite unlimited sushi place so far because it is a great value for unlimited sushi. I love that you can order multiple times. It helps to ensure that you can get just one more roll to fill you up. The service is good. The lady that is always there is really nice even though she is quiet. I always ask for eel sauce because I love it. My favorite rolls are the dragon, spider, tiger, and rainbow.

Terrible sushi. They make the same mistake that a number of other AYCE places do – rice is much too thick and almost plastic in texture. Save your money and skip this place! Awarding one star because Unilocal won’t let me leave it blank for 0 stars.

The crunchy roll was amazingly fresh! Very tasty. We also had the avacado roll was also very good. Service was interesting because our waitress was not very talkative but perhaps she didn’t speak english. Will go again.

This is my favorite value in town. The quality is good and worth more than the low all you can eat price. I listened to every bone head in town that sent me to Azuma and I hate to burst your albuquerque bubble but THAT is mediocre sushi, the rice isn’t flavored and it’s over priced. This is much more authentic and with an excellent price. I’ve never had a complaint at this place.

Absolutely the worst sushi I ever had! I can’t imagine someone could possibly mess rolls up to this extent. The crunchy parts r soggy, rice r way too much and dry, there is barely any tastable fish in the roll. Sushi s fish r extremely dry and let me doubt how old the fish has left in the kitchen before being used. One positive thing is the waiter, who is extremely helpful. However, regardless how good service is, bad food is bad food.

We ordered these things: Shrimp tempura — good enough Vegetable tempura — potatoes and onions??? Seaweed salad — oily and overly fishy Vegetable roll — flavorless, bland, boring, terrible But our beer and soda were good. Total price $ 32 Please don’t come here, it is nothing compared to MANY other sushi and Japanese restaurants in abq.

this was definitely the worst sushi I have ever eaten in my life, In fact it was more like catfish with a bunch of oversized rice balls. The rice was not seasoned properly and worst of all it was too wet giving it a mush like consistency that made it difficult to swallow. I would avoid this fake sushi place like the plague! Save your $ 20 for something else.

This is the worst sushi restaurant I’ve ever tried, and I’ve been to quite a few across the country. The atmosphere was dismal, the service unfriendly and unresponsive, and the table unclean. The miso was bland. The sushi was ungainly, fairly flavorless and served in a basic and uncreative manner. I was given a paltry amount of condiments and the waitress studiously ignored me when I tried to get her attention to ask for more. Tea was served in a cup with a cheap tea bag. Grocery store sushi would have been an improvement and much closer to home. What a waste and disappointment!

Make sure everyone in your party is there at the same time or they will ask you to leave. Our party was late due to an accident and the person that was able to make it was asked to leave because we couldn’t be there five minutes after them. By the time we made it(15 minutes) there was no room to accommodate our party.

I would eat here everyday if I could. Their tempura anything is wonderful. Just got back from an anniversary dinner– the best all you can eat I’ve ever had.

Best all you can eat sushi in town! The people here seem like a japanese family business, which means it’s genuine sushi! I came late at 10:00, which is the time they close but the owner still welcomed me although the chef put away all of his stuff. They are very kind. The sushi is the best in town! The ratio between rice and fish is very nice! A very thick cut for every nigiri you order. Fishes are fresh just as if they just fish em! The eel was excellent too! And you have to try the white tuna! They were all so juicyyyyy that I couldnt stop eating. The rolls come with variety of choices, too, but I am not really a fan of rolls though(and they make bigass rolls: p) The only thing missing off their menu is the Ikura(salmon egg.) I came back right to this place the day after which is today, filled my belly with them sushi till I can’t walk anymore but it was still so awesome. I am writing this review with droolz. Why the heck do they only have 3.5 stars? The servers and owner are extremely nice as well as the food. Notice: they only make Nigiris and Rolls. For $ 21 with the amount of sushi I ate, I think the price was very good! Will definitely be back! This review comes from an asian who has gone to countless sushi restaurants.

My husband and I went to Sushi Gen for a late weekend lunch and ordered three rolls… which was a big mistake because they were huge! This was a pleasant surprise, since many of the sushi restaurants I have sampled in Albuquerque prepared rolls that were relatively small. I was also impressed by the freshness of the fish we were eating, very surprising for a place that some would call«a hole in the wall.» There are two reasons why I didn’t give Sushi Gen five stars: 1) The menu lacked a variety of specialty rolls. For those who just like to let fish the speak for itself this would be no issue; however, I prefer creativity in my sushi rolls. 2) The waitress was attentive(i.e. our glasses were always full) but she was short with us which I didn’t care for. If you are looking for well priced and fresh sushi, this is a good place to go.

Such a fun little place! Great prices and even better coupons in the Alibi. 30−40% off sushi… hello! We ordered 4 rolls; the dragon, rainbow, new mexico and philly roll. All of them were super tasty and at a good price. One time we ordered 7 rolls and 5 beers and it was $ 60. Pretty impressive to me since I eat sushi quite often. Look out for the coupons. Must try spot.

The first time we ate here I thought is was OK, but the second time was very disappointing. They did not bring the ordered sushi and substituted a nasty roll that was difficult to eat. Service was not friendly, not rude really, just not«Hey I’m so glad you’re here! What can I get for you?» I think we’ll skip eating here again.
