I want to give more stars, honestly. I love going to the dentist, and if I have a great experience, I will go far and wide to suit up and show up. I will rave about them to anyone willing to listen and I will refer all sorts to their office, if I have a great experience. Yes. I am picky. I have found the best in every city I end up in. Yes I love getting my teeth cleaned. I want to keep what I got. But I have made some serious mistakes listening to those who I thought knew more than I did. I got my first and only caps from Dr. Kelly. And well… I was not a happy girl. When the dental hygienist saw my face, when I was looking at the big ugly teeth he put in, she delicately had to suggest, as diplomatically as possible to perhaps scale them down a bit, do some artistry and perhaps whittle them down to a more feminine look. They were huge and masculine. Before that moment, I had never realized that women’s teeth are really a bit more feminine looking. Mine were square and big, again, not pretty. He did listen to the hygienist and he used his dremel or whatever it is dentists use to file down these big teeth. I once had high regard for Dr. Tim Kelly, considering we had the same dentist when growing up here Albuq. Dr. Cates over on Silver Ave was super awesome, so I figured that was part of Dr. Kelly’s inspiration. I mean Dr. Cates would sing and whistle, and bring so much joy into the dental visit, I absolutely loved going to the dentist as a small child. But alas, I have come to the conclusion that Dr. K is in it just for the money and does not bend over backwards at all. Sounds harsh I know. The practice is special in the fact that his equipment is top notch. I give him that much. Considering how expensive he is and how hard he makes it to get the work done that you need to have done, well. Of course he can afford the best equipment. He is now doing Botox and specializing in aesthetics, when in my opinion, I wish he would just be the best dang dentist on the planet, which is what I look for. Someone passionate about oral health. And willing to go to any lengths to help make that happen. A big part of any dental experience for me is the Hygienist, because truth be told, she will spend the majority of the time with me. I will be having perio care for the rest of my life, that is just my reality. So finding the best in every city I find myself is paramount. And I have. I found the compassionate, most considerate and skilled Hygienists and am so very familiar with what it entails to be the best. The one I had years ago, for my caps, she was awesome. Speaking up for me, advocating for me. Personable, highly skilled. Wish she was still there. But she ain’t. Yes, I know everyone can have bad days. That could explain it. Mebbe. I look for the best instructors who work educating the next generation of Hygienists, because they have a deep passion for this difficult field. And trust me, it is not the easiest profession, as medical professions go. Takes real skills. And not just the dexterity of a good touch, making it as pain free as possible, but the personal up front and in your face skills that make you want to come and come again. The latest hygienist, well… she did do a good job, just not the most personable on the planet. She may be close to retiring, burnt out. It happens. I probably won’t be back.
