The original store built in 1897 by Ira Carter was sold to Murrel Partlow in 1928 for $ 2,400.00. Owned and operated from 1928 — 1983 by Mr. Partlow, — it was known simply as Partlow’s, or if you wanted to be «fancy»: Partlow’s Grocery. The store has had little if any changes over the years and remains a virtually untouched reminder of how little country stores used to be. Today it is know as the Aldie Country Store and, as many Unilocalers have testified, — it is famous for it’s smoked ribs &BBQ which they cook right out in front in a big old«smoker». Both the delicious smell & the billowing smoke stop traffic well in advance of its roadside location on Rt. 50, or John Mosby Highway, as its known out in the country. That’s the whole idea: stop, smell, taste, become a fan!
